FLORAL HEIGHTS 90TH Anniversary Kickoff Celebration

Saturday, August 22 - 6 - 9:30 p.m. featuring Soul’d Out

You have Been Invited. Will you be chosen?

Come and Hear the Music of Soul’d Out

Soul’d Out is a contemporary Christian band based in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The follow-ing is taken from their website describing their music ministry:

Our music would be considered Adult Contemporary, but we love to play lots of different

styles of music. We truly have a mix of music that appeals to all age groups. The ministry of

Soul'd Out is mainly to the local church. We believe that God uses us to encourage and uplift

those who know Him and to draw others to Him. Our prayer is that our songs will promote a

closer look at and a closer walk with Jesus Christ. People who really know Jesus cannot help

but bring others to Him That is our goal. The future vision for Soul'd Out is simply this: To

share the message that God gives us with the audience He gives us.

SO, YOU WANT TO BE A YOUTH MINISTRY INTERN…

We have been so blessed to have Nikki Goodman serving and loving youth as our Youth Min-istry Intern over the past two years. As she prepares for her future life and ministry as a teacher, we are looking for the next to step into the proud and hallowed ranks of the Youth Ministry Interns!

What we are looking for in Youth Ministry Interns * The ability to articulate a developing personal relationship with Jesus Christ * Living a life of personal growth in faith * Active participation in church and community * Personal responsibility and maturity (preference given to those at least 2 years out of high school)

Outline of Responsibilities * Meet weekly with other Student Ministry Pastor to pray, reflect, and plan together * Participate with the church congregation in Sunday morning worship * Assist and participate in Sunday school, evening activities, and mid-week studies with youth * Join in leadership with special events, such as retreats, mission trips, and fellowship events * Be a part of students’ daily living through school lunches, sporting/artistic events, and other important life moments * Love God, and Love Youth!

Communications Desk I just wanted to let you know about the changes that have been going on behind the scenes at Floral Heights UMC. As many of you may know we have been trying to improve the quality of the radio transmission of our live broadcast on Sunday mornings through KWFS 102.3 FM. The old trans-mitter finally expired and the replacement did not signifi-cantly improve the sound quality, in fact many people re-ported that it was worse than before. To correct this, we have installed an internet connection which allows us to send our broadcast directly to KWFS without having to use a relay transmitter. This past Sunday was the first internet broadcast. Those who listened have reported that the sound quality was much improved. We are currently working to improve, tweak or upgrade the current sound system to provide the best quality sound ex-perience that can be offered in our fine Sanctuary. The web page has been evolving to include several social networking products that are currently being used by a large segment of the population. MySpace, Facebook and Twitter are three of the most commonly used social networks around now. Nationally, the use of these networks has tripled over the last year. These programs allow users to share their activities, photos, videos and opinions instantaneously wherever there is an internet or mobile phone connection. When using the social networks, remember these impor-tant rules: 1. Never post anything that could you do not want public knowledge. 2. Respect other peoples right to privacy, especially when posting prayer requests for other people. The social networks have methods to make things private (by invitation only) or public (anyone can see). Our church is linked now to all three major social net-works because national studies have shown that the majority of internet users have used the internet to look up spiritual topics and to pick new places of worship. If you need anything posted to the web page, email it to me at [email protected] or place it in my regular mail box in the church office.

A brother in Christ, Rex Seigler

Kenneth Wyatt Painting for FHUMC A group from Floral Heights recently travelled to Tulia, Texas to tour the home studio of Methodist artist Kenneth Wyatt. While we were there, we decided to purchase (on faith and the church credit card!) a beautiful framed collage of Dr. Wyatt’s famous paintings of the Apostles, along with the book giving the description of each. This collage can be enjoyed for its beauty as well as being an educational tool for Sunday School classes of all ages. Please stop by the church office to view the book and collage. We have already had a donation of $100 given by one of the Sunday School classes. If you would like to make a contribution to this wonderful gift, please make the check payable to Floral Heights UMC and write Apostles Painting in the memo.

Attention! We do not need anymore flower vases at this time! Thank you for all that have been donated!
