Banns II– Ryann Floden & Paul Lapinski Watch the Mass (refer to our website at www.holytrinitynj.org ) During this challenging time without the public celebration of Mass, we are offering the opportunity to view Mass through on-demand, streaming video, from the Oratory. Sunday Masses: livestream at 8 am EDT Daily Mass (M-F): livestream at 8 am EDT

Dear Brothers and Sisters, This Sunday, the first after Pentecost, is Trinity Sunday, our parish feast day. It is a dream of mine that we make this feast a real community celebration. As I recently wrote to our Pastoral Council, the future of our Church of the Holy Trinity is to be found with and in the Holy Trinity, as we strive to glorify our heavenly Father, responding to the mission entrusted to us by Christ, and seeking the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit. While we can’t be together to celebrate this Trinity Sunday, the exciting news this week is that we will be able to gather, albeit in limited numbers, next weekend for the feast of Corpus Christi. It is fitting that this day devoted to the Holy Eucharist will find us able to celebrate Mass together again for the first time in almost three months. Preparations are well underway, making use of guidelines issued by the Diocese last week, in order to ensure that the necessary precautions are in place. We will do our best to communicate well over the coming days, so you will know what to expect when you return to church. Check in with our parish and Oratory websites (www.holytrinitynj.org, www.raritanoratory.org) and Facebook pages for the latest developments. I would be remiss if I did not say something about the terribly sad resurgence of racial violence in our country in recent days. When he celebrated Confirmation around the Diocese, the late Bishop Hughes always made a point of preaching against the evil of racism: “It is a sin, a grave sin!” We all do well to examine our attitudes towards those who do not look like ourselves, and to listen without judgment to those who have experienced racial discrimination and violence. If we are truly honest with ourselves, we will likely find room for growth, need for conversion. May we not be afraid to confront this evil with the truth that every human person is made in the image and likeness of the God who loves us.

In Christ & St. Philip, Fr. Jeff

First Reading: Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9 The Lord appears to Moses on Mount Sinai and proclaims to him that he Lord is a “merciful God...slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity.” Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 Paul exhorts the Corinthians to live in peace and harmony, and for the first time, invokes the Blessed Trinity. Gospel: John 3:16-18 In this beautiful passage, Jesus tells Nicodemus that God loved his people so much that he “gave his only son.” Jesus reveals to Nicodemus that anyone who believes in him will not die but will enjoy life with him for all eternity.

Supporting Our Parish Thank you to all who have made the effort to continue your financial support of our parish, either by mailing in your envelopes or joining the growing number of parishioners using Online Giving through our website. I know that this is a difficult time for everyone, and you may be anxious about your own finances, too. I simply encourage everyone to continue making your contributions according to ability, and I will continue to do my best to be a good steward of the resources you entrust to the Church.

Read the Bishop’s letter on the homepage of our website concerning opening the churches for public masses beginning June 12th with guidelines. Keep checking our website for more details by early next week.

The Church of the Holy Trinity is open for private prayer weekdays from 10 am - 12 noon.

This week, Fr. Jeff will be available for Confession on Wednesday (June 10) from 10am - 12 noon. Location depends on weather. Entry to the Church is restricted to the ramp entrance, where the automatic door is opened by pressing a button on the wall. Current hygiene & social distancing practices must be observed at all times, and gathering in groups is prohibited.

Our parish office is currently closed to the public. If you have a pastoral need during this time, please contact us by phone or email.

Our Mass Book is open from July 1, 2020 until December 31, 2020. Mass Intentions available for Tuesday and Friday Masses only, at this time. Call the Rectory at 908-526-2394.

The Second Collection for this weekend is for the Catholic Communication Campaign. The proceeds benefit the Catholic Communication Campaign (national and local levels) and the Catholic University of America.

Holy Communion will be distributed after our livestreamed Sunday Masses, in the parking lot here at Holy Trinity. (Church address is 60 Maple Street; the parking lot entrance is directly across from 74 Ardmaer Drive.) Masses will be celebrated at 8 am (English), 10 am (Latin – EF), and 12 noon (Spanish). Holy Communion will be distributed immediately following each Mass. (You may attend any of the times Communion is being distributed.) Those who live nearby may choose to view the livestream Mass at home, and travel to the church when Mass is nearing conclusion. Others may choose to come earlier and view the Mass from their car, on their phone or tablet. No one will be permitted to enter the church. Everyone must remain in their cars at all times, with the doors, windows, & sunroof closed. Windows may only be opened if the vehicle is more than 6 feet from any other vehicle or individual, and when it is your turn to receive Holy Communion. For the sake of safety, it is important to observe any posted signs and verbal instructions from staff and volunteers. Holy Communion will be distributed as you exit the church parking lot, and must be consumed immediately. Out of care for the health of those distributing Holy Communion, reception in the hand is strongly encouraged. Those who are sick, and those at higher risk from Covid-19 due to age or medical conditions, are encouraged to remain at home. The obligation to attend Mass remains dispensed.

"We are called to reverence and love every human person as ourselves. It is our responsibility to care for and protect human life, especially the lives of the most vulnerable among us. Evangelium vitae teaches us that the 'task of accepting and serving life involves everyone; and this

task must be fulfilled above all towards life when it is at its weakest.' Pope John Paul II wrote, 'the Gospel of God's love for man, the Gospel of the dignity of the person and the Gospel of Life are a single and indivisible Gospel.' The Gospel of Jesus is the Gospel of Life, and to love Jesus is to love and serve life. As followers of Christ, may we strive to continually respond to the needs of the poor and vulnerable entrusted to us by God."

Catholic Charities Office, 540 Route 22, Bridgewater is in need of non-perishable food items and pharmacy/grocery store gift cards and a dire need for diapers of all sizes. If you can drop off non-perishable food, gift cards or diapers, it is important that you call first 908-722-1881 since there is limited support staff at each of our sites and there may not always be someone at the front desk. Please be assured, if you are not comfortable with coming into the building, you can call when you arrive to let us know you are outside, drop off the bags and someone will come out immediately after you leave to bring them in for distribution.

2020 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Stepping Forward in Faith: Grace in Action

Through your support of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal you help those in our diocese whose needs are the greatest — the poor, the homeless, and those struggling with illness or grief. Among other needed pastoral ministries, your gift also supports the formation of seminarians and enhances the work of campus ministry through the Catholic Center at Rutgers University. The many pastoral, educational and charitable ministries of the Diocese of Metuchen would not be possible without a generous contribution from every household. Please prayerfully consider a gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal to help our parish reach its goal. If we can exceed our goal, 50% of the amount collected over goal will be returned to us in the form of a parish rebate. Just as important as our financial goal is our goal of reaching 100% participation. Every gift, no matter the size, is important and greatly appreciated. Thank you.

To date, the Development Office has received pledges totaling $42,131.23 and payments totaling $37,527.82 from 169 parishioners. This represents 64.8% of your $65,000.00 goal. Thank you for your efforts. BEWARE…scammers are attempting to take advantage of the pandemic to impersonate clergy and prey on unsuspecting parishioners. Should you get an emergency message from Fr. Jeff via email, DO NOT REPLY. Advise the Rectory.
