25th Anniversary Celebration

T he Chaplaincy’s 25th Anniversary Celebration was held on February 5, 2014 at the

Charleston Marriott. The event was a huge success with over 450 people in attendance. Our Business of the Year Award was presented to The Boeing Company for their continuous support of the Chaplaincy. Ms. Anita Zucker was presented with the J. V. Nichols Award in recognition of her ongoing loyalty to and backing of the Chaplaincy. Proclamations recognizing the Chaplaincy for 25 years of service to the community were presented by the office of Senator Tim Scott, the office of Mayor Summey, (City of North Charleston), Mayor Page, (Town of Mt. Pleasant), and Herb Sass, (Charleston County Council). Thanks to

everyone’s generosity, the Chaplaincy was able to raise nearly $30,000 while enjoying a wonderful night of fellowship and reflection.

from 1996 to 1999. He now serves the

Spartanburg, SC area as a Chaplain.

was presented the J.V. Nichols Award. This

award is given annually to an individual who has

shown immense support to the Chaplaincy. It is

in honor and memory of Vic Nichols who was the Chaplaincy’s Board President from 1994-1996. Mrs. Zucker is

the CEO of the InterTech Group which recently granted the Chaplaincy its largest grant to date.

4. The Silent Auction had over 150 items donated and was a huge success. Thank you to all those who

participated!

5. Former Deputy Senior Chaplains Spally Taylor and Chief Eddie Driggers reminisce on their time serving on

staff at the Chaplaincy. Mrs. Taylor was the Deputy Senior Chaplain from 2000 to 2007 and now serves with the

North Charleston Victim Advocates. Chief Driggers was the Deputy Senior Chaplain from 2007 to 2012 and now

serves as the North Charleston Police Chief.

The 2014 Cooper River Bridge Run is just around the corner. It will be held on Saturday, April 5th. The Chaplaincy is blessed to be a Charity Connection again this year. In order to show our gratitude and earn our keep as a chosen charity, we are required to provide volunteers to help at the EXPO on Thursday, April 3rd and Friday, April 4th. The EXPO will be held at the Charleston Area Convention Center located at 5001 Coliseum Drive in North Charleston. If you are available on Thursday, April 3rd for a three-hour shift between 11:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. or on Friday, April 4th for a three-hour shift between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., please call the office at 843-724-1212 or e-mail Tara Abbott at tara@coastalcrisischaplain.org. Our Mission

The primary mission of the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy is to provide pastoral care and counseling for employees and families of emergency service agencies, as well as the general public; assist the Coroner in notifying individuals who have lost a family member in an unexpected manner, assist the Mobile Crisis Unit and SWAT teams in hostage negotiations and other local emergency situations; and to provide follow-up visitations in the home or the hospital for victims of crime and their families.
