Xavier High School

Open house, Saturday, October 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This open house is an excellent way for young men in grades 6 through 8 to visit Xavier and learn about the many academic, campus minis-try, service, athletic, and co-curricular opportuni-ties. Attendees will receive a student-led tour as well as be able to speak with teachers, coaches, moderators and administrators about the impact a Xavier education has on young men.

Knights of Columbus Our Knights of Columbus council will be conduct-ing their Fall membership Drive on the weekend of October 19th & 20th. There will be a representative from the council available after each Mass to an-swer any questions you may have and/or to accept your applications. You can also sign up online at kofc.org. When prompted for a council number, just input 1694 and someone will contact you or call Bill at 718-815-2147. The council has done a lot of good things for our parish community. Even more can be done with new members.

Anointing of the Sick

“When the Church cares for the sick, it serves Christ himself in the suffering members of his Mystical Body.” At all the Masses celebrated the weekend of Oc-tober 12 and 13 the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be administered to those who present themselves. Who is a candidate for the anointing? 1. Those whose health (physical, mental, or

emotional) is seriously impaired by sickness 2. Those whose health is seriously impaired by

old age 3. Those anticipating serious surgery (the use of

general anesthesia) 4. Sick children who have sufficient use of rea-

son to understand the benefits of the sacra-ment

People should not delay the reception of the sacrament, but receive it when the right time comes. All who care for the sick are encour-aged to help them celebrate this sacred mo-ment of healing and source of strength

Uncion De Los Enfermos “Cuando la iglesia cuida sobre los enfermos, sir-ve a Cristo mismo en el miembro sufriente de su cuerpo místico.” En todas las misas celebradas del fin de semana de octubre 12 y 13 el sacramento de la unción de los enfermos será administrado a aquellos que se presenten a sí mismos. Quien es candidato para la unción ? 1. Aquellos que salud (física, mental, o emocio-

nal) esta seriamente afectada por la enferme-dad.

2. Aquellos que salud se ve gravemente afecta-da por la vejez.

3. Aquellos que anticipan una cirugía seria (el uso de anestesia general)

4. Niños enfermos que usan la razón lo suficien-te para comprender los beneficios del sacra-mento.

La gente no debería retrasar la recepción del sacramento, pero recibir lo cuando llegue el momento adecuado. Todos aquellos que se preocupan sobre los enfermos son alentados a ayudar los celebrar este momento sagrado de curación y fortaleza.

Our Parish Pantry is located at 53 St. Marks Place and is open every Wednesday from 1–2 p.m. (except the fifth Wednesday of the month).
