What are your plans for
the school year?
Now that school is back,
what do you plan to
accomplish this year
academically and in Key
Club?
The return of school
signifies the start of meetings.
How will you stay active in
your club? For officers, how
will you be recruiting
members, making meetings
interesting, and retaining
active membership?
As we all know, school
doesn’t just mean Key Club. It
also means studying, other
clubs and sport, applications,
and standardized tests.
How will you juggle all of
that? Remember to stay on
top of all of your
commitments. Don’t let one
slide because you have too
many. It is your commitment
and it is your time to shine.
Your community is
counting on you to serve,
lead, and inspire! I hope you
all have an amazing school
year!
Please pay special attention
to pages 4-6 and 10! This issue
has links to plenty of
important resources.
DIvision 21’s goals this year are to have all 13 clubs in their area have active status,
expand membership in the division, fundraise and increase awareness of Key Club
International and the Pacific Northwest District’s goals and projects , and have extensive
communication between all clubs regardless of distance.
However, our biggest goals are those stated by Key Club International:
To provide service, build character, and develop leadership.

A Word from the Board
Bumblebees, BEE excited! New School year has started, which means
that it’s time to get excited for our new Bumblebees! Even though the
official term for the new officers already started at DCON, the
international member fee is due early in the school year. Therefore, it’s
crucial that the officers organize the club quickly and get on task. Make
sure your officers advertise Key Club a lot, using posters, flyers, videos,
social media, or whatever methods that are efficient. Also, PLEASE check
the files that Chester mentions in this Newsletter: attendance sheet, hour
sheet, etc. They are made by Kamiak’s former secretary, Sarah Ma, and
those files are very helpful for keeping the club data and running the
club. Efficient recording of the club data is extremely crucial for the club
and the Division, so use those files to get your club more organized! Also,
in September, make sure that your members get to know about what
exactly Key Club is. Explain about Key Club’s structure, objectives, colors,
and many other things. Moreover, the officers should always be good
examples for the members – officers should attend all the meetings, and
having at least one of the officers going to each event would be a great
idea to keep track of event feedbacks. Have the executive meetings
frequently, so the officers know what’s going on and what exactly to do.
I know we Bumblebees already did a great job last school year, so I
can’t wait to see more great achievements. Please don’t hesitate to ask
questions when your club is struggling. We are all here to help you guys
as much as possible. Good luck to you all for the new school year! WHO
ROCKS THE HOUSE? THE BEES ROCK THE HOUSE! Let’s get the house
rocking!

Hey Key Clubbers! School is back in session and so is Key Club! I am
extremely eager to begin working alongside the divisional board and
participating in service projects again! Key Club is truly a great
organization to be a part of because you gain new skills and friends
you would never have imagined having! Make an impact! Change
the world! Become a leader! Don’t be afraid to step out of your
comfort zone because chances are, you’ll be able to learn something
new that could change your life forever! Key Club has so much to offer
to and for everyone so don’t hesitate to join if you haven’t already!
What are you waiting for? Make sure to attend the first Key Club
meeting & bee on the lookout for the many, many service projects
throughout the year at your school! Invite your friends too! The bigger
your Key Club family is, the more unforgettable and exciting your Key
Club experience will be!

Why hello there, my fellow bees! I hope you all enjoyed the spoils
that summer break has supplied! Now that it’s over and after
you’re done shedding those tears full of salty despair, I will be
there in spirit – right next to you – to hold you and pump you guys
back up for this year’s Key club autumn events! There’ll be lots of
volunteering opportunities for each and every one of you, so
keep your eyes peeled for them (sneak-peak: trick-or-treating for
UNICEF). Not only would you be earning volunteering hours, but
the chance to bond with your fellow members some more! For
me personally, I would say that I built my Key Club relationship
foundation in the fall season with the blacksmiths from the forges
of friendship, lollipops, and free food. As a result of that, I am who
I am today: a pathetic loser. With basically 100% of my friends
(which I hired) nodding their heads in agreement, the serious
truth of the matter is that this season is a great season for you
guys to settle into your clubs and really concrete your Key Club
bond (possibly while sharing a cup of FREE hot-chocolate [hint-
hint Key Club presidents]). Finally, remember to make the best
out of this Key Club year and most importantly, HAVE FUN!

What will DIVISION 21 do?
ELIMATE is the District Project this year so we will definitely participate!
Stay tuned to find out what Division 21 will do this year to ELIMINATE MNT!
The Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program, KCCP, in support of Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s
Cancer Program in Portland OR., Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in Seattle WA., and the
Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in British Columbia and the Yukon, will raise money and
awareness to fight and find the cure for children’s cancer.
The KCCP was founded by Past PNW Kiwanis Governor Frank Morehouse in 2010. His inspiration
was a young cancer patient named Penny. Morehouse worked at the hospital where Penny
stayed. Penny was diagnosed with a brain tumor and required surgery and radiation therapy.
Penny visited Morehouse during her hospital stays and talked about what was happening to her.
Sadly, Penny eventually lost her battle with cancer.
The KCCP is a long term project that will hopefully expand to a global program. Children’s
cancer affects many families. Thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and
with the help of research, their chances of surviving have more than tripled. KCCP hopes to be
a part of finding a cure.
“The Pacific Northwest is the beginning. The world is our goal.”
Youth Opportunities Fund
The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an
endowed fund for Key Club International
held within the Kiwanis International
Foundation.
This fund uses earned interest to help Key
Clubs and Key Club members serve the
world by providing grants for service
opportunities. The fund also provides
academic scholarships for higher
education. The Youth Opportunities Fund is
established through a portion of your Key
Club International dues and through the
purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships.
YOF grants can help you take action. Look
around and identify the things that need to
get done in your school, community or
world.
Helping Key Clubs Serve the World
HOW TO APPLY FOR A
YOF GRANT
YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or
club members. There is only one funding cycle
for the Youth Opportunities Fund. The
application must be received by October 15
each year. Clubs may request funding
assistance from $100 to $2,000. The committee
typically funds those clubs who are asking for
a portion of the total cost of the project, and
clubs who are working with other organizations
to fund and complete the project. Notification
of the Key Club International Board’s decision
will be mailed no later than January 15.
