A BRIEF REPORT OF THE FIRST SESSION (FEBRUARY, 2003)

OF THE FOURTH LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF GOA.

The First Session (February) 2003 of the Fourth Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa commenced at the Assembly Hall, Porvorim on Friday 7 February, 2003. Five sittings were held. The House was adjourned sine die on 14 February, 2003 and later prorogued on 20 February, 2003. Total time taken for the business of the sittings was 19 hours and 28 minutes.

The House was summoned on the 4th January, 2003.

The First Session of 2003 of the Fourth Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa commenced in the Assembly Hall, Porvorim at 2.30 p.m. on Friday 7 February, 2003. Shri Vishwas Satarkar, Speaker was in the Chair.

VI. GOVEWNMXNT WIESOEUTION

Dr. Suresh Amvrrkar the Minister for Health moved the following res~lution:

WHEREAS the transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 (Act 42 of 1994) (hereinafter referred to as the "Act"), was enacted by Parliament after all the Houses of the Legislature of the States of Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra passed resolutions in terms of Clause(1) of article 252 of the Constitution of India to the effect that the matters relating to regulation of removal, storage and transplantation of human organs for therapeutic purposes and the prevention of comercial dealings in human organs be regulated in the said States by Parliament by Law;

If organs such as cornea are removed early from such unclaimed dead body and are preserved then the same can be used for transplantation into the body of a needy person;
