We started the month by celebrating our PBIS Top Dog winners and those with perfect attendance for the month. Our attendance has already improved and we appreciate your efforts to make sure your children are here on time, every day, ready to learn. That is a great way to teach kids about accountability. Speaking of accountability… Perhaps your child has shared that each month we have been focusing on part of the REACH acronym. In August and September, we focused on RESPECT and EXCELLING at school. In October, we are focusing on holding ourselves ACCOUNTABLE. You can help your child understand accountability by talking about ways you are accountable (ex. You have to hold yourself accountable to be at work, pay your bills, clean your house, and get your kids to school, etc.) At school, we are talking about the accountability for completing your work, giving your best effort, being where you are supposed to be, being a good listener, etc. We are halfway through the first semester, so be sure to check in with your child’s teacher to see how they are performing academically in the classroom. This is a good time to intervene if your child is not performing to your expectation or the teacher’s. We want each Bullpup to reach his/her potential. I want to close with GREAT NEWS! We just completed an onsite visit with Mass Insight, our Turn Around partner from Boston. They were easily able to see all the positive changes at GLA in the last six years. It was evident that the climate and culture of the school had stabilized and that academic achievement is the priority at GLA. We appreciate your role in helping us make so many positive changes here at school. YOU are the crucial factor in your child’s success and we are proud to be part of it. Sincerely, Tamara R. Principal’s Message

Dear parents/guardians,

October is an exciting month here at GLA! We started the month by celebrating our PBIS Top Dog winners and those with perfect attendance for the month. Our attendance has already improved and we appreciate your efforts to make sure your children are here on time, every day, ready to learn. That is a great way to teach kids about accountability. Speaking of accountability…

Perhaps your child has shared that each month we have been focusing on part of the REACH acronym.

Sincerely,Tamara R. SkinnerPrincipal

BOOK RETURNSHave a GLA book at home? Return it ASAP! We have a long list of students with

books still missing from last year. Help us clear those

records by checking at home for GLA books & returning them to the media center.

GLA BOOK STOREEach Wed., Thurs, and Fri.

morning, the GLA Bookstore is open to students

from 7:15 - 7:30. Students can purchase school supplies

priced between $0.25 - $1.00.

Our Bullpups did a great job showing excellence throughout September! They tried their best on assignments and didn’t give up, even if the work was difficult.

We will focus on accountability in October. Talk to your student about how you are accountable every day and how they can be accountable too! Accountability at GLA looks like getting to class on time, using class time wisely, and recognizing and fixing our mistakes when we make them. Thank you for encouraging your students to be

accountable - students REACH their potential when we work together!

Red Ribbon Week

October 23 - 31

Red Ribbon Week exists to bring awareness of and advocacy for drug-free families and

communities.

The Red Ribbon Campaign says that teens are 42% less likely to use drugs if their parents talk

to them about leading a healthy, drug-free lifestyle, but only 25% of teens report having

those conversations with their parents.

It’s never too early to talk with your child about how important it is to live a drug-free life! If you would like more information on how to

have those conversations with your child, or if you have a concern about your child and drug use, you can reach out to our social worker at

435-8242 ext. 3.
