    INFORMATION MODELING

The C11 site in the Victoria Harbour master plan was designated for a multideck

car park with 570 spaces serving the surrounding commercial district. The

triangular shape and prime location made design a challenge. The project team

proposed an unconventional solution: a seven-level car park below four levelsof residential units. The hybrid building is cloaked in a faade system that

    disguises the mixed use.

The project team used MicroStation and Bentley Architecture to collaborate

with various consultants on multiple options for site layouts. Multiple iterations

were produced in relatively short periods of time. The optimum design included

an efficient use of E XO-skin panels, which created a random look for theabstract building form. ProjectWise was used to manage files and drawing

    approvals.

A 14-story building planned for Dhaka, Bangladesh, had to withstand wind

speeds of up to 2 01 kilometers per hour. Given the 19-meter width and 38-meter

length of the structure, drift against wind would be severe along the width

of the building. Complicating the design was the architects specification of adiagonal cross member around the building.

A design solution for this USD 2 million building had to be found in just eight

months. McDonald Steel Building Products recommended a prefabricated

solution and the project team decided on a staggered truss system that

incorporated the diagonal cross member as a structural support. Modelingin STAAD.Pro enabled the team to quickly design a solution to meet the
