THE BRITISH SCHOOL AL KHUBAIRATABOUT USThe British School Al Khubairat (BSAK) is Abu Dhabi’s leading British not-for-profit, co-educational, day school, it is also the only British Embassy School in the UAE.

The School was founded in 1968 and generously supported by the late President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, through the donation of land and Amiri Decree No. 5 of 1971. The School is under the ongoing patronage of the British Ambassador and is sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current President of the United Arab Emirates.

We are immensely proud of these historic links, and today our long-standing reputation and heritage continue to shape our ethos as we celebrate over 50 years of exceeding expectations.

At the heart of our constitution is our status as a not-for-profit and academically non-selective community school. From Nursery to Sixth Form, our aim is to deliver excellence in teaching and learning, bringing everything that is outstanding about the British curriculum to the United Arab Emirates, and we are a member of IAPS, HMC and BSME.

The values of Empathy and Care, Respect and Inclusivity, Honesty and Integrity, Endeavour and Resilience have underpinned the School’s educational philosophy from the beginning. There is a culture of giving and service at the core of our purpose, decisions and actions. We foster a welcoming environment for our BSAK families, which is genuinely friendly and happy. The School engenders an inclusive community spirit, in which everyone is valued, reinforcing cultural diversity and empathy. We are a caring school with the safety and wellbeing of our students always at the forefront.

We are rated Outstanding across all performance standards in both our local Government Agency inspection (ADEK) and that of British Schools Overseas (BSO); and in 2019 we were awarded Best British School in the UAE and Best Post-16 Education in the Schools Compared, Top School Awards. We are also the first school outside of the UK to receive the Carnegie Silver Award for Mental Health.

BSAK provides a full and broad education fit for the modern world, and our mission is to nurture a genuine passion for learning, through world-class teachers, trusted leadership and dedicated support staff.

We inspire and challenge our students, of all academic abilities, to become well-rounded individuals ready to progress to the next stage of their education and life beyond BSAK and Abu Dhabi. Through dedicated support for each individual student, we invest in building future leaders.

The BSAK PE Department is a forward thinking and energetic department which strives to provide the very best opportunities for students within both Sport and Physical Education. Benefiting from fifteen staff members including ten Teachers, two Swim Assistants and two Gap Students, the department impacts across the whole school, teaching Physical Education from Nursery to Year 13 students. Working as part of a whole school department provides teachers with access to a wealth of resources, from discussions with experienced and highly skilled colleagues to access to world class sports facilities.

The curriculum is exciting and diverse, brought to life through high quality teaching which in turn enables all students to succeed. We aim to build a solid foundation for students to weave sport and exercise into their daily lives. The department operates with a Director of Sport, Heads of both Primary and Secondary Physical Education and four Heads of Sport in Rugby, Netball, Football and Swimming.

Academically, both GCSE PE (Edexcel) and BTEC National Diploma (2020 specification) are taught, with over fifty students undertaking the GCSE qualification each year. We currently have fourteen students studying the BTEC diploma. Our BTEC Sports students apply to a wide range of universities, for courses including sports science, coaching, physiotherapy and other exercise and sport related qualifications.

The department is proud to offer a wide variety of Co-curricular sporting opportunities and uses both PE teachers and the wider staff body to facilitate training sessions and competitive matches against other schools. The delivery of the core sports of football, rugby, netball and swimming are overseen by a Head of Sport who leads the strategic development of the sport across the school. BSAK boasts a large number of sporting scholars who follow a specific individualised programme to enhance their sporting performance.

During the last four years, the school has been extremely successful in hosting and competing in a range of international sporting competitions including the BSME Games, COBIS Games and our own, very well received, BSAK 7s regional tournament.

We benefit from an extremely strong reputation locally, regionally and internationally and we look to further grow this as a team which is wholly dedicated to improving the outcomes for all students.

The PE department at BSAK is proactive in looking to constantly evolve and progress in its methods of delivery for both Physical Education and Sport. We are therefore looking for an energetic, dedicated and creative thinker, who is able to slot into our extremely successful and cohesive team as a strong team member. Adaptability and a drive for ongoing professional development are key qualities in all members of the team.

An up to date knowledge of the National Curriculum 2014, in addition to a high level of sport science knowledge is required. The focus for the department is to provide world class Physical Education rather than just physical activity.

BSAK has a demanding and extensive co-curricular schedule which is delivered both after school and at weekends. A willingness to provide additional time to support the student’s development in these areas is expected.
