News from the Board: Recently there have been a few “dog” incidents in the Main-lands such as dogs running out in front of runners or bicy-clists, dogs being outside without being on a leash or a pup being tethered outside the home with no responsible party present. These situations can easily get out of control, so the board passed a motion that a responsible adult must be out-side with the animal if they are tethered. The length of the leash was also restricted. Frankly, when these items first came up, I was not a fan. I am a dog owner and I typically walk Minnie on a 15-foot retractable leash. However, as a board member, I must vote with the best interest of the com-munity in mind, not my personal preference. I did a bit of research in preparation for the meeting. Boy, was I surprised what I learned!
Retractable leashes are convenient and are made for use in open spaces but difficult to control if a dog is active or hard to manage. Many vets and trainers are NOT fans of the re-tractable leash because your dog can get far enough away from you to either get into trouble or into harm’s way. Inju-ries to both dogs and dog walkers have occurred. These de-vices can be counterproductive to training a dog to walk po-litely on lead. When I switched Minnie to a classic 6-foot dog leash, which is considered the easiest way to exercise physical control over your pet, I found that I prefer the classic leash to the retractable for walking. It is up to you, but give it a try and perhaps both you and your pooch will be happier!
In the months of June, July and August there are no Thursday night membership meetings. The board has its last business meeting before summer break on Tuesday, June 25 at 9 a.m. Meetings will then resume on September 24 at 9 a.m. (business meeting) and September 26 at 7 p.m. (membership).
One quick note that a neighbor of mine asked me to pass on: please remember that when you are on the sidewalk at the side of a corner house, you very possibly are standing just a few feet from that homeowner’s bed. It is probably not appre-ciated if you are having a conversation there, particularly if it is early morning. And early is in the “eye of the beholder”. You may rise at 5 or 6 a.m., but your neighbor may not get up until 10! Thank you so much for understanding.
Remember that we all have our ups and downs, and though each day may not be good, there is something good in each day.
Respectfully,
Linda Byrd Homeowners’ Board President

Women’s Club
Summer is upon us! The temperatures are rising and if you’re looking for your friends, check inside in the AC or out by the pool.
Hope everyone had a nice Mother’s Day!
The Senior Prom was a big success, and everyone danced the night away and had a great time. The dapper John Wa-ters and the lovely Catherine Bean were crowned king and queen of the prom, complete with sashes and crowns. The beautiful gowns, tuxes, flower corsages and boutonnieres made the evening festive. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a special event. Especially a big shout out thank you to the Men’s Club volunteers who helped us decorate and hung the twinkle lights for a truly starry, starry night.
I’ve just returned home from our Women’s Club Meeting in May. We had a fun bunch with about 30 ladies in attend-ance. Lunch included salad, a variety of pizzas and assorted desserts and sodas. I don’t think anyone left hungry. Mini BINGO made a comeback for the month’s activi-ty. Congratulations to all the lucky winners, including Clara Petrelis who won twice!
Women’s Club will take a summer break and we will start up again in the fall. Our first meeting will be September 10, 2019, second Tuesday of the month at high noon, so mark it on your calendar. See you then and have a safe and fun summer! Wear your sunscreen!
P.S. Although Women’s Club will be on break for the sum-mer, Social Club will be if full fun mode. So please plan on participating in the great activities on the schedule. Trivia, Ice Cream Social, Food Truck, and holiday parties for Me-morial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day. See you there!
Signing off for now, see you in the September Four~Caster!

Recreation Director’s Report
Dear Mainlands Friends and Family,
Wow, can’t believe we are half way through the year! Hope all the travelers to cooler weather have safely reached their destinations and that those of us left behind are finding ways to stay cool. The only way the pool cools off these days is with a cool shower in the evening before the sun comes out and heats it up. We can heat it in the winter but cooling in the summer is a trick we haven’t learned yet.
Things are winding down in the clubhouse so we will have the main room floors stripped and re-waxed on June 19. We want to be sure it is set and dry before anyone walks on it, so the main area of club-house will be closed to foot traffic until June 22. The library area, office and restrooms are available but must be entered through the rear doors. Thank you in advance for your understanding and coop-eration.
Many of you will have guests coming to visit in the summer months and children love our beautiful pool. Please remind your guests that we are a senior community and children are not welcome to behave badly. At this time the pool is closed to children of any age from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily and no child under the age of three (3) may use the pool at any time. Residents are to accompany their guests to the pool and ensure they abide by our posted rules.
Here’s hoping you all have a safe and pleasant summer.
Best of all good things

Painting Report
Our Spring Cleaning/Roof Washing program is complete, and I am confident that you are as pleased with the results as we are.
Our next step will begin in September as we paint homes listed on the 2019 schedule posted in the Clubhouse. I am sure you are looking forward to this phase, as I am. The preparation for this will begin in June as we review the scheduled homes. I will be sending these residents letters to allow for color choice and any exclusions in July.
Thank you all for your cooperation with our staff and vendor.

I hope all our Mothers and Grandmothers had a very Happy Mother’s Day. We are now in the month that hon-ors Fathers on June 16. So, to all our Fathers and Grand-fathers: I hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day!
Don’t forget to buy your tickets to our Ice Cream Social on June 9. Tickets are $5, and are available from Dorthy Nix, 904-699-9384 or Sue Sagues, 727-803-6055. Any-one who attended last year can tell you about the deli-cious treats we had.
We hope to see everyone at our tour of the Recycle Facil-ity scheduled for June 21, 9 AM. See the separate article for more details.
At our July 4 celebration we will have PoFolks chicken and all the trimmings. Tickets are $10; available from Sue Sagues, 727-803-6055 or Clara Petrelis, 727-573-3668. It will be at 5 PM and BYOB.
During the summer months of June, July and August, we will not have our monthly Social Club meeting. It will resume in September. In its place we will have TRIVIA on the second and fourth Thursday nights. Why not join us for an evening of fun and laughs? Bring your friends and neighbors; no charge and refreshments are furnished. The winners will get a scratch-off ticket.
Don’t forget that the clubhouse will be closed starting June 19 so the floors can be refinished. You can still use the library but can’t step on the terrazzo floors in the club house. Regular activity will resume on Saturday, June 22..
If traveling, stay safe and have a wonderful time. Those remaining here for the summer months, please join us for any or all the activities during the week. Please see the separate article about Horseshoes if you are interested.

Are Welcome!
The Spaniards brought cattle ranching to Florida in 1521, making it the oldest cattle raising state in the United States. Florida
cowboys used long, braided-leather whips that made a loud “crack” when snapped in the air while herding cattle, earning them
the nickname “Crackers”.
Therefore, you shouldn’t be surprised to find a rodeo going strong in Central Florida every Friday night from March through
October. Based in Kissimmee, the Suhls Rodeo has been providing family fun since 1992. “Suhls Rodeo is a show that will
deliver a unique experience of heart pounding, foot stomping action. It doesn’t matter if you like Bull Riding, Barrel Racing, or
Bronc Riding, Suhls Rodeo has something for everyone. Enjoy the fun and excitement of our western past in our covered
grandstand. We offer a full concession stand, western gift shop, and a saloon with live music and drinks. Located only 20
minutes from Disney World and 30 minutes from International Drive.”
