Bologna – What do we need this for?

In Germany:

Reduction of study time Reduction of high drop out

rates Joining rationales of

education vs. requirements of the labor market

Increase employability More structure and

supervision

In the RF:

International recognition of degrees (in RU and D)

Increasing flexibility of the study system

(Inter-) national mobility Differentiation of diploma

towards “mixed” and key competencies

Sharpened occupational orientation

All 16 Bundesländer (Federal states) intend to finalize reforms by 2010 – by using different strategies

Fixed Date, e.g North Rhine Westphalia “only enrollment for studies complying to the bologna process” after 2006/07

Target agreement between HEI and regional Ministry, e.g. Saxony and Berlin

Voluntary transition to new model, e.g. Rhineland Palatinate

And Russia? Fixed date 2007/08?

Why is Bologna attractive for employers?

Multiple qualifications (e.g. business engineer)

Graduates with internationally recognized degrees, new possibilities for HR-Management

Apart from subject knowledge training in „soft skills“

The Common Challenge

Reserved attitude and fears of HEIs and information deficit Lacking financial capacities Lacking human resources esp. in transition period Occupational qualification of graduates Recognition and success on the labor market Acceptance among students Reforming state examination (law, teachers, medicine) Changing attitude towards mobility Time is scarce to reach the target by 2010!
