I DON’T BE-LEAGUE IT!

Let the trials

begin!

By Adrien DansetteSpecial Correspond-ent for Arab affairs

What is the purpose of the Arab League (AL)? Since its birth in 1945, this political organization was es-tablished to integrate its members eco-nomically, and solve conflicts involving member states with-out asking for foreign assistance.

Has it done so? That answer is as debata-ble as the height of a rolling sand dune…

Out of control

Has the Arab League become a group of old men too set in their ways to acknowledge that the world and the nation they live in is moving far far ahead of them? Are they losing control?

Over 3 years have passed after the Syr-ian conflict, the Arab League are no clos-er to taking decisive steps to end the cri-sis, and within the last month over 1000 Palestinian civilian

deaths have shocked the world – yet there still has been no word.

What’s more, if the AL are so united to avoid conflict then how did the now fa-bled Arab Spring happen? At least 5 of its members were directly affected by the protest, as well as major political changes.

Is this really how a political organization should be operating nowadays?

This is not about how the Islamic religion is holding these nations back; on the contrary, the Islamic notion of Brotherhood is one of the very reasons why this League was cre-ated!

tells Bugle “let’s not go

When asked if pov-erty and economic instability are a cause or consequence of child marriage – in which some children

are married as young as 5 years old– the Secretary General Manuel Paix Castel-la responded bewil-dered: “It’s like the story of the chicken and the egg, let’s not

go there.”

Do you still remember where you watched France’s first match of the football world cup against Hondu-ras? Maybe you gath-ered together with some friends in your local bar to enjoy a convincing 3-0 vic-tory of Les Bleus and have a good time, just like millions of other football fans around the globe.

Just like some world cup enthusiasts from the Kenyan coast-al town Mpeketoni. But unlike them, you were lucky enough to make it back home alive.

On that day, June 15, the Somalian Isla-mist terror group Al-Shabaab slaughtered at least 48 people in an assault that can only be matched in its cruelty by the group’s Westgate shopping mall attack in Nairo-bi, on September 21 of last year, leaving 67 dead. The gunmen attacked two hotels, a bank, and a police sta-tion, before turning to a public broadcast of a world cup match and massacring nu-merous viewers, rid-dling them with bul-lets from point blank range.

The recent wave of terrorism from Al-Shabaab in Kenya is seriously endanger-

ing the country’s ever so fragile political and economic stability. Fear of more attacks, and resentment to the administration, obviously not capable of protecting its citi-zens from terror acts, are rising among the population.

Furthermore, Ken-ya’s tourist industry – with over half a mil-lion employees one of the biggest economic cornerstones in the country – is suffering heavily from never ending news about assaults, and travel warnings issued by many western coun-tries.

The Bugle Says

Western countries – especially the USA

– should not watch inactively, but take responsibility for the present situation that they have con-tributed to. In 2006, Ethiopian troops en-tered Somalia with US support to fight the Islamic Courts Union (ICU), an or-ganization that had established some-thing like stability in the war-torn country. With the fall of the ICU came the rise of Al-Shabaab, and thus a threat for the whole region of East Africa. If there’s one in this year’s conference’s Security Council to take the initiative in the fight against Al-Shabaab, it should be the United States.

Nuremberg trials - continued from p. 1tions can turn into a high degree of dam-age, especially in the case of these men. One might have be-come Hitler’s person-al heir, the other one a journalist, and the third one the Min-ister of Armaments and Munitions. They do however have one thing in common: they have all been passionate members of the NSDAP and their sub-organiza-tions and they adored the permanent pres-ent ideology.

Fritzsche (45), WWI-veteran and journalist, accused for Crimes against Peace and Humanity and War Crimes, will be charged for his ac-tions during the Nazi regime. Fritzsche was able to send all his ideological views into Germany via his broadcasts. He spoke to the German popu-lation. No one could deny that this man had no influence on the wide-ranged re-ceivers.

An even more del-icate case is given by Mr. Speer (40). Working for the NS-DAP since 1931 (14 years in total with the evil Nazi ideolo-gy), he rose bit by bit in the brown chain, until he got his final promotion as Minis-ter of armaments and munitions in 1942 – 3 years into World War 2. The Minister of

armaments and mu-nitions claims that he had no detailed knowledge what he was sent to do. He was given orders which needed to be conducted, without any hesitation and questioning – but the most dangerous be-ings are unquestion-ing human beings.

Centrepiece, core, some might even dare to say at the heart of the tribu-nal: Mr. Göring (52). Second in line to the hierarchy (right af-ter the late Mr. Adolf Hitler himself).

A convinced and pas-sionate member of the NSDAP, leader of the crack paramil-itary unit, the Sturm-abteilung (SA).

The perfect Nazi bi-ography.

The worst accused bi-ography.

He initiated (sup-ported by his role model Hitler) the killing of millions of people. He invented (next to some other disturbed support-ers) killing factories.

The Bugle Says

The Berlin News Agency will be cer-tainly surprised by the defence. Let us all witness what ri-diculous case will be presented to defend these three monsters. Transparency rules.

Stop Al-Shabaab now, Mr. Vogelpoel!
