Preschool doors will open for the 2017-2018 school year on Wednesday, September 6. We welcome back our wonderful teachers Becky Anderson, Sue Best, Christine Fleming and Donna Stutzman. Donna continues to serve as Preschool Director and will teach in the 4 year old class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Sue will also teach in the 4 year old class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Becky and Christine will work with the 3 year old class and Preschool Playtime on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The teachers have been working hard to get the classrooms ready in time for the start of school and we are looking forward to a fantastic 31st year of Bethel Preschool.

We still have a few openings in our Monday Preschool Playtime class (2 ½- 5years), our 2 Day (WF 3 year old) class and our 3 Day (MWF 4 year old) class. If you know of any child who would be eligible to attend, please pass on the word about Bethel Preschool to the parents. Tell prospective families to call the preschool office at (847) 244-9672 or email [email protected].

Playground Update: The swings have been removed from the playground and new equipment will be installed during Sept/Oct. We give thanks to Paul DeLassus, Monte Stoltzman, John Kozlik, and Chuck Kozlik for their help with the swing removal.

Tuesday Night is Bethel Night

Tuesday evenings are often filled with hubbub at Bethel. On any one week, there could be 7th & 8th Grade Confirmation classes, Adult Bible Study, Living Justly classes, Elders meetings, Church Council, Care in Community meetings, 1st Communion Class, & F.E.E.T. (4th & 5th Grade).

This Fall, 7th & 8th Grade Confirmation begins on Tuesday, September 5, 6:15 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Beginning October 3, we'll add 1st Communion (6th Grade), F.E.E.T., and an Adult Bible Study led by Tim Faitsch.

As part of providing a welcoming, safe environment on these busy Tuesday evenings, we schedule someone to be Tuesday Evening Greeter. The Greeter stays near the doors, welcome folks, helps direct people to the right locations in the buildings, etc. Greeters are asked to be here from 5:45 p.m. - 7:45p.m. If you are willing to volunteer, please email [email protected], and we'll let you know the dates that are available.

Sermon & Bible Study Series Fall 2017

On October 31, 2017, the Church celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Reformation—when Martin Luther and others called the Church back to the Word of God, to the Gospel, to salvation by grace alone through faith alone by Christ alone.

Bethel is acknowledging this anniversary through a Fall Sermon & Sunday AM Adult Bible Study series from September 17 - October 29. Titled “Reasons for a Reformation,” it’s meant to explore the causes of Luther’s reforms—while acknowledging those same causes are reasons for reform in our individual lives and in our life together as a church. These causes call us continually back to the truth of God’s Word.

On Saturday, October 28 from 10:00 a.m. to

3:00 p.m. Lutheran congregations throughout the

region are encourage to attend a daylong

celebration. It will be jointly sponsored by CUC

On Monday, October 30 at Chapel of our Lord at

Wednesday Morning Bible

Study The Wednesday Morning

Bible Study group is beginning a new study starting September 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the lounge. This will be "Overflowing Abundance", a new DVD series and individual Bible study written by LWML 2013 convention Bible study leader, Donna Pyle. Aside from the resurrection, Jesus' feeding of the five thousand is the only miracle recorded in all four Gospels. Even though Jesus dealt with doubting disciples, fatigue, personal grief, and limited resources, God desired to use that spring day to feed the masses with the Bread of Life. If you have questions, contact Kathy Schwartz (847-975-9637).

Pastor Squires to Serve on the Walcamp Board of Directors

I have accepted an invitation to serve on the Board of Directors for Walcamp Outdoor Ministries and Retreat Center. It is located in Kingston, IL, about 70 miles west of Chicago and 15 miles north of DeKalb. Walcamp is a Lutheran camp offering summer programming, outdoor education, family campground, and retreat facilities. Bethel has often sent students to summer camp, youth trips for retreats, and youth to serve as volunteers or counselors.

This 3-year-term asks me to "support the work of Walcamp and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance," encouraging the camp's connection to the congregations of the Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod as well as developing connections with other partners.

Instead of doing a basket for the silent auction this year, Bethel is gathering gift cards to be used for an additional fundraiser that evening. Donations of any type of gift cards ($10 and up) are needed from Bethel people. If you prefer, you can make a monetary donation and we will purchase a variety of cards. Make any checks to Bethel and mark "Love INC Auction" in the memo line or on the envelope. Contact Carol Cook with any questions - 847-244-9647 or email [email protected]

For reservations, go to: loveinclakecounty.org

This year's event is Friday, October 20 at the Holiday Inn, Gurnee.

Walcamp is a Registered Service Organization of the LCMS, and operates independently. Walcamp raises its own funds to continue its mission of giving people an experience of God's Creation, encouraging faith in Jesus, and giving congregations a unique opportunity to develop disciples.

To know more about Walcamp, go to their Website: www.walcamp.org. It will be my goal to keep Bethel up-to-date about activities and opportunities at Walcamp, while seeking how we can support their ministry. See page 6 for information on the Fall Fest.

In Christ, Pastor Squires
