The Burrows-Cipryk-Klassen family has been involved in our school community for three generations, and Nancy is a member of our Board of Governors.

BH BeGInnInGSa full-time program for two- and three-year-olds, BH Beginnings offers a child care experience second to none in our warm, welcoming facility with an enhanced ratio of certified educators.

Per the reggio emilia approach, we encourage the children to learn, know, and understand; their curiosity is delightful.

JUnIor ScHoolFrom Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5, students build a foundation of independent learning, critical thinking, and communicating per the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. With our guidance, a Junior School student is empowered to achieve her personal best. In preparing girls to be confident leaders in an ever-changing world, we nurture the growth of caring, responsible citizens with an increased understanding of the world around them.

GIRLS ANd TINkERING Beginning in Junior School, BH girls have the opportunity to tinker as an integral part of their units of inquiry.

Engineering toys may inspire girls to be inventors. Junior Kindergarten students explore toys from uses to components. Kindergarten students explore building activities in the classroom.

Grades 1 to 4 students often collaborate with presenters who have careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

Grade 5 students research notable women, seeking out profile attributes that led these women to being risk-takers, critical thinkers, and communicators.

mIDDle ScHoolas students deepen their subject-matter learning, they expand their thinking.

In Grades 6 to 8, girls develop a sense of identity as they become aware of their interests. In an environment in which every girl believes in herself, speaks out, and takes risks, our middle School program inspires academic, artistic, and athletic excellence. Subject areas are aligned to provide continuity and cross-curricular learning as well as progression of good study habits, self-confidence, and understanding.

CAPSTONE PROGRAMBeginning in Grade 6, our Capstone Program reflects our vision, mission, and values as a school community.

This program allows us to meet strategic priorities to provide our students with a personalized program that is rigorous, relevant, and research-based in preparing them for university.

Our research has explored concepts such as Harvard’s Project Zero philosophies, brain research, girls’ learning, growth mindset, and multiple intelligences.

Formative assessment is integral to learning as students receive relevant, timely feedback.

SenIor ScHoolour Senior School academic requirements encourage Grades 9 to 12 students to design a rigorous program compatible with their abilities, interests, and goals. the centre for learning provides extensive resources and support. Qualified students may enrich their studies by taking advanced or accelerated programs, as well as the college Board’s advanced Placement courses in Grades 11 and 12.

Balmoral Hall School ’s financial aid program enabled Paige to pursue

BoarDInGa sense of connection, caring, and community characterizes our school, and nowhere is this more evident than among the Grades 6 to 12 students who make our residence their home each school year. We welcome boarders from around the world during this treasured time in their lives — a time for expanding horizons while beginning lifelong friendships.

RESIdENCE LIfEEncouraging students to discover a healthy balance in their lives, we foster a supportive, active boarding environment based on mutual respect.

A dedicated team works closely with boarders to promote participation in the residence curriculum, developing life skills, independence, and confidence as they prepare for university and beyond.

Weekly after-school schedules ensure that ample time exists for studies as well as private lessons in dance, voice, musical instruments, diving, gymnastics, equestrian, and more.

Additionally, all boarders are members of an exclusive fitness facility, Winnipeg Winter Club, with daily access to private lessons, including tennis, badminton, skating, and swimming.

Weekends provide many opportunities for expanding cultural awareness and healthy lifestyles with teambuilding activities that facilitate connections with Canadian day students.

Saturdays ensure students have time for extra tutoring in addition to university guidance and language study with special classes in SAT, ACT, and IELTS preparation.

artSeducation in the arts is essential for all students. each discipline offers knowledge that enables students to understand their world in ways that not only support but enhance their learning in other core subjects. the depth of instruction and breadth of offerings in musical theatre, drama, dance, music, and visual arts demonstrates Balmoral Hall School’s commitment to providing the highest level of instruction in the arts.

Presented in the stunning Sifton Family theatre, annual highlights include our middle and Senior School theatrical productions, Junior School dance recital, and art exhibitions. our music program includes Junior, middle, and Senior School choirs as well as the Grades 4 and 5 bell choir, a cherished school tradition.

atHletIcSour students are physically active on a regular basis in order to develop good health and fitness. Student participation in athletic experiences is an essential part of the learning process. our athletics program enhances mental energy as well as academic performance while promoting healthy lifestyles. Go Blazers Go!

INTERHOUSE ACTIvITIESAt Balmoral Hall School, students, faculty/staff, and alumnae are divided into four groups called Houses that compete against each other during the year in athletics, debating, and various spirit competitions.

The four Houses, Glen Gairn, Ballater, Craig Gowan, and Braemar are named for places surrounding Balmoral Castle in Scotland. In the fall of each school year, new students entering Kindergarten to Grade 12 as well as new faculty/staff are placed in Houses, receiving a pin. Houses earn points by participating in events. The House with the most points at the end of the school year wins our House Trophy.

commUnItY anD SerVIcethrough awareness as well as hands-on experiences, students are challenged to find ways to help their local and global communities. Students in Senior School complete meaningful volunteer hours each year, and they also have the opportunity to participate in service learning experiences worldwide. together, the Balmoral Hall School community supports women’s cancer research through our annual fundraising walk, Girls for the cure.
