The hitherto unknown source of psychosomatic ills, human aberrations and unhappy interpersonal relationships was isolated and identified as the Reactive Mind, and desci ibed in detail. Along with this unparalleled discovery, 1 , Ron Hubbard simply and succinctly presented the skills and techniques to eradicate this Reactive Mind,

To a world cvei struggling to find a wav out of its dark despair, this book hit like a thunderbolt. Here at last was what Mankind had been hoping for. The way out of human misery had been discovered.

It w as not only possible, but was already being done with success by the discoverer and could be done byocheis,

Never was adventure more eagerly embarked upon, Ovotnight thousands of people all over the world, using this book, started applying Diaactic techniques with phenomenally good results. Scientology was the natural advancement of Pianeties. Having achieved unprecedented success with the application of Dianetics in the field of theiiut-oan im o d , L . R o n H u b b a r d n e v e riW le ss c o n tin u e dhis research. He had observed during the course of Dianetic Auditing that an inexplicable phenomenon kept recurring with unavoidable frequency, which could not be attributed as a result of addressing the human mind. Relentlessly compiling this phenomena and researching into thousands of Dianetic case histories, L. Ron Hubbard made his historic breakthrough into the realm of the Human Spirit. Here at last was the proof that philosophers and religionists had been contending over throughout the ages. L. Ron Hubbard, with incontrovertible proof, was able to lay to rest the materialistic philosophies which maintained that Man was animated matter.

There was no doubt. Man is basically a spirit.

But knowing this was not enough. He then continued his research to develop the technology and procedures by which Man could gradually and stably achieve increasingly higher states of awareness and existence.

Thousands of grateful and relieved people demanded Scientology auditing.

Where Dianetics brings the aberrated person to the state of capable human being, Scientology takes him from there to a state of Total Freedom and Total Beingness. At Saint Hill and in the nineteen Scientology Organi.-ations throughout the world. Academies oiler courses in Basie Dianetics and .Advanced Scientology, Professional auditors are trained to skill and precision. Ever pursuing the goal to make Clear and Total Freedom possible for Mankind, L. Ron Hubbard continued to correlate and retine the data and techniques. Power Processing, which was introduced in May 196c, was the technical triumph which brought the person to the state of Release mid awareness where he could then be trained to audit himself, erase the Reactive Bank, and attain the State of Clear,

Today there are over led Clears, and .more are being checked out almost daily. Despite the magnitude of E- Ron Hubbard's work, the Route to Clear is hot a Jscouragmgly Song one. With good training and application Clear crut be achieved within six months to two yerus.

So 1. Ron Hubbard has fulfilled his promise of Clear.

For thousands of years men have sought the state of complete spiritual freedom from the endless cycle of birth and death and have sought personal immortality c o n ta in in g fu l l a w a re n e s s , m e m o ry a n d n.V\X\iy a, spirit independent of the rlesh.

The dream of this in Buddha's time was called “ Bodhi", being the name of the tree under which he attained such a state.

But due to the unknown presence of the reactive mind and its effect upon the spirit as well as the body , such periods of freedom were difficult to attain and were, as we have found, temporary.

Further, few could attain even this temporary state and those who did acquired it at the cost of decades of self-denial and personal discipline.

In Scientology this state has beer, attained. It has been achieved not on a temporary basis, subject to relapse, but on a stable plane of full awareness and ability, unqualified by accident or deterioration. And not limited to a few.

By eradicating the reactive mind we no: only achieve iu the state of Clear an erasure of the seeming evil in Man, who is basically good, we have overcome the barriers which made it sc difficult to attain total spiritual independence and serenity.

We cal! this state ‘‘Operating Thevars". To ccera.v something is to be able to handle it. TV.-ai i< from the Greek letter ‘‘theta" the uudirionai philosopher's symbol (from the letter in the Greek alphabet "theca" T, of thought, spirit or life. Thus it means a being w ho as a spirit alone can handle things.

The definition of the state of Operating. Thetas is “ Knowing and willing cause over Life, Thought. Matter. Energy, Space and Time."

As Man is basically good, despite his evil reactions to his m otive mind, a being who is Clear becomes willing to trust himself with, such abilities. And la or,-, case none can have more power than they can eoatrri

ORGANIZATION NEWSDURBAN SUCCESS

DURBAN reports its daytime stand at the Daily News ideal Home Exhibition in Durban, South Africa, held IS — 2? July, was highly successful. The stand was beautifully situated, with posters arranged in a sequence that made for smooth and effective dissemination. Many people reached, showing keen interest. The words “Total Freedom" had terrific pull, especially for children and young people. Auditor 14 (announcing the first Clear, John McMaster) drew many enquiries from the attendees. The Routing and Gradation Chart attracted the enquiring and intellectual types and a good number were interested in the word Scientology.

Two weeks later, Durban held an Open Evening at the City Hall, with the first Clear, JOHN McMASTER, as the lecturer. Over 400 people turned out to hear John McMaster.

The Distribution Secretary reports that “John was wonderful—he gave us so much of himseLf, there was nary a murmur of restless movement anywhere and he spoke for 90 minutes. Durban is well known for its 'conserv atism' —artists have to really be good to be applauded by Durban and it was wonderful to feel the theta flow. Even the fireman on duty signed up for an HAS course."

JOHANNESBURGJOHANNESBURG’S Clear Congress was held 25-26

June and the Distribution Secretary reports it as the best Congress held in Johannesburg since Ron was there. Three excellent mailings were sent out at two-week intervals a month before the Congress and a newspaper advertisement ran for two weeks. Expert high fidelity equipment was bought according to Ron's specifications and every delegate was relaxed, hearing every one of Ron's words clearly, even at the back of the hall. Many people signed up for processing and training and valuable experience was gained by all the staff for future Congresses.

PERTH WEDDINGThe first Scientology wedding ceremony for Western

Australia was held at the Perth Org recently when KATHY MANEA wed JONATHAN GELLIE, HP A, Perth Organization Secretary. IAN TAMPION conducted the service in the chapel. Following the Seattle Congress. Julia and Ken Salmen were invited to the very successful Franchise Centre run by ELSIE GRIFFITHS in Vancouver, British Columbia. Some forty people responded within 24 hours to an im itation by Elsie to bear Ken and Julia Salmen lecture.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

UNITED KINGDOMLOUGHBOROUGH ON THE MONTETHE LOUGHBOROUGH SCIENTOLOGY CENTRE in Leicestershire is rightfully proud of its history' and successes to date. The Centre started in 1959 as the Loughborough Scientology Co-Audit Centre before changing to its present name. In 1963 it moved to larger premises owned by DES POPHAM. From this Centre, two more emerged: JOAN and PETER DAVIS branched out into the famous Quom Hunt Village and opened up the Charnwood Forest Scientology Centre. MU RIAL CORNES who was active at the centre then graduated HPA and opened up the very successful Derbyshire Scientology Centre at Burton-upon- Trent, 20 miles away in Staffordshire.

Lately something of an exodus has taken place from Loughborough and Quom to Saint Hill. First was CLIVE WHITTAKER, then OLIVE GERRARD, on Saint Hill staff, then BRIAN DAY, on Saint Hill staff, and his wife, DOREEN, who works on the Foundation, and their two sons, MIKE and CHRIS. Des Popham and his wife both work on the Saint Hill Foundation. From Quom, Peter and Joan Davis, Clear No. 67, are both on Saint Hill staff. Meanwhile, back at Loughborough, the show goes on under the direction of RAY HAYES.

RAY SAUNDERS, long time Scientologist from SCIENTOLOGY BRISTOL is now' on the Saint Hill Special Briefing Course.

PETER GOODWIN, Clear No. 52, recently spent some time in Jersey, C.I. to revive Scientology activity there. AM ERICASAt tiie Arizona State Prison one of the prisoners,

WILLIAM BENITEZ, has set up Narconon, in which he is applying Scientology to help his fellow prisoners break the habit of dope addiction. Benitez is training these men to both break their own addiction and to help others to do the same. One of the inmates has stated:

“ I know and fed 1 can communicate with things, that I have a much greater affinity and that I am aware of reality. Life has altogether a new meaning for me. I no longer feel without individuality.”

Benitez is hoping to have the program sanctioned as an official rehabilitation program of the prison. Another prison inmate in the Narconon program writes:

“Whenever I confronted other persons 1 always felt l had to mock up different facial expressions in order to feel more secure and comfortable, but through Narconon meetings I’ve become more able, knowing that just ‘being there' is enough.”

Benitez himself has a 19-year history of dope addiction but is now Chairman of the Narconon group. He has studied many practices in an attempt to find a way to end his addiction but found Scientology the one that worked. Benitez is now a Field Staff Member of the Los Angeles Org and plans to go there on his release from prison. Narconon’s goal is non-addiction and a method of relief for not only Narconon’s 20 members but for all addicts, wherever they may be.
