Our vantage point is as limited as a person who has fallen into a hole and can only see a circle of sky above them. We don’t always know the landscape, and we can’t see distant vistas. So we pray earnestly and ask God for our needs, our wants, our wishes, and our desires. But we have to always prayer with the attitude, “if it be Your will God.” In that we can have total confidence. Lins’ Lens Our Prayers and God’s Will 1 John 5:14 Now this is the confidence we have before Him: whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

The purpose of prayer is to get God’s will done….The greatest prayer any one can offer is “Thy will be done.” It will be offered in a thousand different forms, with a thousand details, as needs arise daily. But every true prayer comes under those four words.

S.D Gordon This verse offers the Bible’s best definition of prayer. It’s easy to

memorize when you notice how the verses unfold and expand. The meaning and marvel of prayer grows deeper and more practical as phrase builds upon phrase.

Prayer is….. Coming before Him Coming before Him with confidence Coming before Him with confidence and asking. Coming before Him with confidence and asking according to His will. Coming before Him with confidence and asking according to His will,

knowing that He hears us. Writing near the end of the Bible and at the end of the apostolic age, the apostle John wanted us to know something about the biblical promises related to prayer. They are all conditioned by God’s will. In his Gospel, for example, John quoted Jesus as saying “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it”. Anything is a huge word, and perhaps some of John’s readers had taken it a bit too literally. So in 1John 5”14, he reminds us that the promise of answered prayer is dependent on the phrase “according to His will.” From the perspective of infinity, our God knows what’s best from beginning to end. God sees the outcomes of every chain reaction in life. He knows how the dominoes fall and how the cookies crumble. His perfect oversight makes no mistakes and always results in the best for His children. SUNDAY UNIVERSITY 9 AM (continued)

Youth Group Sunday Afternoons

11:30 AM-directly following Worship Service Meet in the Youth Room

Blessings to all from the Youth Group at Great Island!

We kicked off a new year on September 7th, with a picnic at the Shultz’s River Lot, thank you Terry and Lori for your continued support and hospitality! We are up to a total of 16 youth in the group, compared to 10 last year!

We are studying the “Generosity” series that Pastor Benjamin is teaching in his current Sermon Series, we watch a video and are having great discussions with the group.

On September 20th, we had our first Service Project and got to exercise some of what we are learning by helping one of our own family members with some work they needed completed at their home. We are always looking for additional projects, so if you, or anyone you know could use some help from a great group of youth from our Church, please let the Brungard’s or Dickey’s know so that we can reach out to them and see how we can be of help to them.

We are partnering with Samaritan’s Purse-Operation Christmas Child this year as well. This is a program where you pack various items into a small box, like a shoe box, they are then sealed and sent around the world to help children in need. More information will be available in the bulletin soon, but please start saving your shoe boxes, you may drop them off in the church office.

Some other upcoming events are:

Saturday, October 25th-Annual Church Fall Festival and Lock-In Saturday, October 25th or November 1st-Air Soft Games January 16th, 2015-Winter Jam Spring 2015- Work day or weekend at Krislund

“1st & 2nd Peter and Jude” by Carolyn Nystrom

This fall, the Great Island Church invites all adults to a Sunday School small group. Most every Sunday in the church at 9 AM, we will reflect on the 1st & 2nd letters of Peter and Jude. Our discussions will consider current issues arising from these letters: A. As Christians, are we mere travelers in a pagan world? B. Why and how is a life in Christ possibly a counter culture experience? C. How do we recognize a false teacher of God’s word? Are we misleading others about the reality of Gods Word and Spirit?

Join us and experience how Christ centered Scripture and Spirit impacts you life and relationships.
