This month we take a break from our normal program schedule to focus on that which is truly important in our lives, giving all members an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. This is a time to celebrate in the way of traditions, giving, and giving thanks, so I encourage each of you to thank those who support your continued involvement with ASHRAE. Before we break for the 2013 year, I want to briefly recognize some recent activities and refocus on some of our major goals for the Chapter year. First and foremost, the Wilkes University student branch is on the rise, and we had several students present at our last meeting. These young, aspiring engineers are the future of our industry, so I invite all to reach out and help them grow as professionals. Sticking with the student/YEA theme, Will Seiberling organized a YEA member social with the Wilkes student members at Chako’s on December 5th. A great time was had by all in attendance, so look for more events like this in the future. Now, we look forward to 2014, which has a lot of great programs in store. Our January meeting will be held the 2nd Tuesday of the month to allow our members the chance to attend the ASHRAE Winter Conference the following week, so be sure to mark your calendar of this change. continued on page 2 Chapter Website: http://anthracite.ashraechapters.org

NEWS and Notes President’s Message, Continued In support of our members and what the winter conference has to offer, we have a bus trip to the AHR Expo in NYC confirmed for Jan. 22. If you’re interested in attending or sponsoring the trip and haven’t already signed up, contact Rich Karns or Dan Mello. On behalf of the board, I want to extend a big THANK YOU for your continued support and participation during the first half of the ASHRAE year. I look forward to seeing everybody in 2014! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,

Matt Archey

RP Rant (by Ron Sibulsky) Happy Holidays to all and I hope everyone has a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Our January meeting, to be held on January 14th, is Research Promotion Night. I hope all those who so generously donated to our campaign last year will make an effort to attend. And if you have not yet donated to our 2013-2014 campaign why don’t you plan on making your donation that night. If you were an Honor Role donor what better way to receive your certificate then to also present your check at the same time? As of this writing we are only at 15% of our goal for this year, so we have a long way to go. On to the subject of our Second Annual Car Show. It has now become apparent that we will not be doing an autocross this year in conjunction with the car show. Unfortunately I was not able to secure the support of Sordoni Construction Services again this year and without a suitable location it is just not feasible. On the positive side, it should make it a little easier to now find a location since we will not need as much of a paved area, so I’m hoping to be able to make an announcement of a location in next month’s newsletter. I am still looking at the date of May 18th so as not to conflict with Wilkes College, with the possibility of a rain date on May 25th.

I am still looking for sponsors, having so far only secured Borton-Lawson as a full event sponsor and Matt Archey as a trophy sponsor so please support your Chapter and Research Promotion. You can be a trophy sponsor for as little as $20. And of course volunteers are still needed. I’ve gotten several verbal commitments but nothing in writing. If you are truly interested in helping please either complete the volunteer form I’ve been handing out or e-mail me directly or through the car show web site so I can start assembling my team. My contact information is in the newsletter and the car show web site can be found at www.ashraecarshow.wix.com/info Thanks for your support of the Anthracite Chapter and of Research Promotion.
