FROM REV. KENUTE’S DESK

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The First Sunday of Advent is New Year’s Day in the life of the Church. It’s a day of New Beginning. The cycle is a constant reminder to us that every

end is a beginning. This is hope.

Advent is a season of expectation, anticipation and preparation. It’s the time when Christians prepare once more for the celebration of the nativity of Jesus.

The word 'Advent' means ‘arrival’ or 'coming.'

But our season of Advent isn’t just about waiting for Christmas. Advent can

help to heighten our awareness that God is always prepared to come into human

lives if only we are prepared to receive him.

Advent also reminds us of the promise of a final coming: the parousia, a time

when all that was promised in the first coming will be brought to fruition. God

began the work of salvation in the past; that work constantly begins again in the

continuing present, and the parousia, the fulfillment of God’s promise, is

expected at the end of human time.

We are an Advent people. Christians should always see something brighter

than the bleak aspects of life. We are called to be people of hope. So we wait vigilantly with Hope.

Think on These Things

11

All praise to the Father, from whom all things come, And all praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son,

And all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one.

And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love,

Yes they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

Priest: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Father I have sinned, help me find my way.

Remember not my sins, just let me hear you say:

I forgive you, I love you. You are mine, take my hand.

Go in peace, sin no more, Beloved one.

Father I have turned my back and walked away Depended on my strength and lived life my own way

Father I have closed my heart to those in need. Thought only of myself, a victim of my greed.

Father I have loved, if love’s the word to use.

I’ve played so many games, they’ve left me so confused.

Father I’ve returned, I’m home with you to stay.

Standing at your door, knowing that you’ll say

2. My Friends

Priest: We give you thanks, Holy God, for Jesus, who came to be your living Word, to baptize us with Spirit and fire, to feed the hungry, to humble

the mighty, and to announce the good news of your coming realm.

With thanksgiving, we remember how, when the hour had come, Jesus

took his place at the table with the apostles. He said to them, I will not eat this Passover again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. Then Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and

gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you.

Do this in remembrance of me.” After supper, he took a cup, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. I will not drink of the fruit of the vine

until the kingdom of God comes.” With thanks and praise we offer ourselves to you, sharing this holy

meal, and praying: Come Lord Jesus! Therefore let us proclaim the mystery of our faith:

Acclamation (Lisa Narcisse) All: Christ has died. Alleluia! Christ is risen Alleluia!

Christ will come again. Alleluia. Amen. Amen. Amen. Priest: Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us - this bread, this cup, these people-

Christ’s body and blood, given in love for the world. Make us one in the Spirit, one in the church, and one with Christ our Lord. Make us gentle,

joyful, thankful people, serving our neighbors, worshiping you alone.

Keep us in the peace of Christ until you gather us at your table in glory. Even now, a voice is crying in the wilderness: prepare the way of the

Lord! With Christ, in Christ and through Christ we worship you Father

Almighty in songs of everlasting praise. All: Blessing and honour. Alleluia. Glory and power. Alleluia.

Be yours forever and ever. Alleluia. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen.

Priest: And now as our savior has taught us we are bold to sing All: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, Hallowed be thy name

On the earth as it is in heaven. Hallowed be thy name

Give us this day our daily bread. Hallowed be thy name

Forgive us all our trespasses, Hallowed be thy name

As we forgive those who trespass against us. Hallowed be thy name

And lead us not into temptation, Hallowed be thy name

But deliver us from all that is evil. Hallowed be thy name

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, Hallowed be thy name

For ever and ever and ever and ever. Hallowed be thy name

Amen, amen, it shall be so! Hallowed be thy name

Amen, amen, it shall be so! Hallowed be thy name.

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and put on the amour of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your

Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility, that on the last day

reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

RESPONSE TO THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Priest: Let us confess our faith as we say together, the Apostles Creed

All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived

by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.

He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He

ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the

communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the

body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE: Leader: Let us pray to the Lord, saying, in your mercy, Lord, save us. Merciful God, you call us to goodness and lead us on right paths. You

encourage us with signs of your coming. Watching and waiting, we pray for this world that needs your saving power. In your mercy,

All: Lord, save us. Leader: For nations at war, in your mercy,

All: Lord, save us. Leader: For all who suffer from violence, in streets or in homes, in your mercy,

All: Lord, save us. Leader: For all who live in worry or fear, in your mercy,

All: Lord, save us. Leader: For those who have forgotten the ways of righteousness, in your mercy,

All: Lord, save us. Leader: For those who have never heard of your rescuing love, in your mercy,

All: Lord, save us. Leader: For all those who have lost hope, or never had it at all, in your mercy,
