CANOE KIDS PROGRAM

COMING TO WATSON LAKE:

JUNE 24 & 25

CanoeKayak BC will offer CanoeKayak Canada’s signature Day Camps focusing on skills development to introduce the sport of paddling – sprint canoe, kayak, dragonboat and recreational

canoe skills to children aged 8–14 yrs.

Participants will receive instruction from NCCP certified coaches, and enjoy spending time on the water practicing what they’ve learned.

The daily paddling activities are balanced with games and trips to various spots on the lake, as well as lots of swimming on those hot and sunny days.

No experience is needed and participants work at their own pace to develop paddling skills.

Games, team boats, singles, pleasure canoes and the dragon boat will all be introduced to the participants during the week long session. The week finishes with a BBQ, mini regatta and certificate

presentation.

Registration in each session is limited so sign up early!

Price – $100 cash

You must register your child ASAP by

contacting Meaghen @ 536-8023/ [email protected]

The Albert Creek Bird Observatory

Located 15 km west of Watson Lake at Upper Liard

Open daily until June 7, 2014 (closed during snow/rain)

Hours are from official sunrise for 6 hours

Learn about the birds of southeast YukonSee birds close-up

Observe migrating birds overhead or flying low within the site or swimming in the pondsTalk with the banders and volunteers

Watch the work of an observatory

Birds caught in mist nets are banded, weighed, measured, and body fat content assessed.

Directions:

Cross the Liard River Bridge, drive past Upper Liard, over the concrete Albert Creek Bridge, and turn onto the next road on the right side (north). There’s a sign on the corner ‘Albert Creek Banding Site’. First road to the right is a narrow road leading to the site. Another sign at that corner.

WARNING: This road is not suitable for RVs larger than a camper van and there is no large parking area or large turn-around at the Observatory. This road is bumpy and during wet weather and snowmelt can be muddy with large puddles. Walking time from the intersection is a pleasant 15 minutes.

For up-to-date information about the road condition, contact Ted at 1-867-335-1518.
