What is the School Delivery Service?
The School Delivery Service is a special resource-sharing program available for local area teachers to use library materials within their classrooms and schools
The Goals of the School Delivery Service Are:• To supplement and enhance
the curriculum of local area schools and preschools
• To build positive relationships with local schools and educators
More Goals!
• To increase circulation and library usage among local educators and students
• To increase awareness of the Quincy Public Library and the importance of literacy as a whole
How Does the School Delivery Service Work?
• School Delivery Specialist: That’s me!
• Select, check-out, deliver & pick-up Library materials for school use
• Maintain &manage School Delivery Accounts
• Purchase materials for and curate the School Delivery Collection
School Delivery: A Brief History
• Budget Cuts– Loss of PPRI Funding– Budget Deficits
• Bookmobile– Cost of Running and Repairing– “Staff Heavy”
School Delivery is Born!• A School Delivery Program is created
with :• 1 School Delivery Specialist to
select, deliver, and pick-up library materials to and from schools
• 1 passenger van is purchased for transport
• The collection of books kept on the Bookmobile are now moved from the Bookmobile to a collection housed within the library, called the School Delivery Collection
School Delivery: Early Challenges• Circulation was not near
where the Quincy Public Library wanted it to be to justify the program
• Not enough educators were signed up to justify the program
• Not every school eligible to receive School Delivery was utilizing the program
School Delivery: A Rebirth of School
• By August, 2015:– All 9 public K-6th grade public
schools are served– All 6 K-8th grade private
schools are served– All 7 preschools are served– 3 Specialty Schools are
served– Over 250 educators are
using the Service– Circulation increased by over
580%

Design the Service with the needs of the schools and educators in mind

Privileges: No Fees! No Fines!• Collections: No limits on
subjects, titles, authors, material types, or amounts of library items teachers check-out
• Lost and Damaged Items/Standardized Rules for all
