The Fourth of July marks the 65th anniversary of my grandfather Michalek’s passing into eternal life. Because my grandpa was the first funeral from the new church it reminded me that meant it was the 65 years ago that our church was dedicated. I had to look up the actual day (May 1st) because I could only remember it was in May. The anniver-sary went unnoticed because May 1st is the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker. The present church was dedicated 80 year after the first church in Antrim Township was dedicated in October 1875. Our re-calling this year as our 145 anniversary got lost in the pandemic and continues to be overlooked now that we no longer have hymnals with the 145 anniversary prayer on cards in the inside cover. May we meditate on the words of the Preface for the Common of the Dedication of a church: “For in this visible house that you have let us build and where you never cease to show favor to the family on pilgrimage to you in this place, you wonderfully manifest and accomplish the mystery of your communion with us. Here you build up for yourself the temple that we are and cause your Church, spread throughout the world, to grow ever more and more as the Lord’s own Body, till she reaches her fullness in the vision of peace, the heavenly city of Jerusalem. And so, with the countless ranks of blessed, in the temple of your glory we praise you, we bless you and proclaim your greatness.”
Did You Know: Mass Intentions provide a more powerful prayer offering for those souls, and they “contribute to the good of the Church and by that offering share its concern to support its ministers and works” (CCC945, 2) If you would like schedule a Mass for your loved one, please contact the Parish office. Cost is: $10.
