Krishi India 2018 expo/Wellness India 2018 expo began today, offering attendees everything healthy, enriching and empowering.

KJ Alphons: India is a wellness nation

T he inaugural session of Krishi India 2018 expo/Wellness India 2018 expo saw Union

Minister of State for Tourism Shri KJ Alphons speak about India being the country of wellness, and Kerala being at the heart of the wellness tourism industry owing to the numerous wellness retreats offering a combination of Ayurveda, Yoga and other Indian systems of medicines.

“The healing powers (of traditional Indian systems of medicines) don’t depend on chemicals, it rather depends on the earth. The products that heal us are actually Ayurvedic,” he said.

With Transformational Experience as the punchline, the Ministry of Tourism’s recent ad film Yogi of the Racetrack, which has record breaking 75 million views per month, does justice to the depth of experiences

the wellness hotspot is devastated, with 1 million people living in relief camps.”

India’s efforts of staying healthy should be connected with Japan’s efforts, pointed out Mr Yasuro Koizumi, Executive Vice President, CFO & CIO, FiNC, Japan. Shri Anil Khandekar of World Vision said that World Vision’s motivation for participating in the Wellness India expo for the second year in a row is the well organized EIG team and the big buyers that visit the exhibition.

That Indian agriculture is cereal-centric i.e. production of wheat and rice production is preferred over oilseeds and pulses was a recurring theme during the session on Farming and Agriculture: An Overall Perspective. Observing how the country’s cereal-centric (limited to wheat and rice) food security approach actually harmed

that India provides. “Through five 60 seconds advertisements, the Ministry of Tourism is promoting a new perception and better understanding of Yoga as a holistic way of life to attract more health-conscious, high-end travellers deeper into India. The ads, which feature millennials, show

the effect of Yoga and its techniques and how it can be related to even the toughest race positions.”

Shri Alphons who has been in Kerala for the last one week, made an urgent appeal for donations to help the people of the flood-battered state. “Nature’s fury has struck Kerala and

interests of farmers, Dr Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog, said, “Th e per capita consumption of cereals has remained more or less the same for about 50 years though per capita consumption of edible oils, for instance, has grown by 300 percent since 1992-93. However, India has not taken advantage of this growth and 70 percent of our edible

oil demand is still met by imports.” He also pointed out that exporting water guzzling crops like paddy was not in the interest of the nation or its farmers. “We should aim to get more productivity from less resources if we want to double farm income by 2022.” Th e session also witnessed discussions around private sector investment in supply chain infrastructure and

services that would lead to a reduction in waste and more added value.

During the session, Bringing Wellness to You, MasterChef India winner Smt Pankaj Bhadouria and an advocate of ‘Th ink Global, Eat Local,’ said, “With increase in population and urbanisation, life style changes have taken place and diseases have increased . FAD foods

and diets don’t have any benefi ts. All the damage we’ve done to our body, cannot be undone overnight. It needs time of over a decade, and we should start making healthy choices today itself. Ayurvedic food, which is not seasonal, is healing.”

Stressing on the fact that we should take pride in our produce, Shri Nitin Puri, Senior President, YES Bank, gave the example of Modena in Italy, famous for its balsamic vinegar made from carefully harvested grapes grown there. “Italian farmers sell the top quality balsamic vinegar at a price that is four times higher than others.”

Th e launch edition of Krishi India 2018 expo and the second edition of Wellness India 2018 expo is being held at Pragati Maidan New Delhi from 20-22 August 2018.

‘K rishi’ as the word stand itself as the whole community which is the base

of humanity. We are close to be a developed nation and it’s a matter of great distress that the progenitor of food i.e., the farmer is not in the position of prosperity and wellbeing. India is far ahead in terms of knowledge, agriculture machinery as well as research. In spite of this, India is becoming a leading destination for clinical trials, contract research and manufacturing activities owing to the growth of bio-services sector. Research is going on tremendously in the field of agriculture in many research institutes and organizations spread all over India, but this has not been able to eradicate the root cause of problem of our food producer, ‘The Farmer’.

We, as ‘Krishi Jagran’ a monthly magazine, since 23 years in 12 languages all over India and Limca book of record holder, are working towards eradicating illiteracy or lack of information among this important group of population which will ultimately lead to the growth of Indian Agriculture and the country as a whole.

Organic, as one of the themes, is the most recent development in Krishi. There are many advantages of organic farming which include reduction in the production costs, protection of environment, slow global warming, and reduction in the pollution of ground water along with some disadvantages like being expensive and short in supply. Being able to put the word ‘organic’ on a food product is a valuable marketing advantage in

health and agricultural institutions is needed to build policies and good governance to facilitate integration, while capacity building is needed at all levels to help translate the conceptual links into comprehensive action on the ground. Health and agricultural researchers likewise need to work more closely together to achieve common goals. Four main steps are required to encourage greater synergies between agriculture and health. First, individuals and institutions already active as links between agriculture and health should compile and communicate evidence of successes and failures and share their knowledge and

today’s consumer market, but does not guarantee the product is legitimately organic. This may put an adverse effect on the health of consumer which ought to be the most important aspect of this expo.

Agriculture and health, the other theme, are linked in many ways. First, agriculture is essential for good health: it produces the world’s food, fibre and materials for shelter; in many countries it is also an important source of livelihood among the poor. At the same time, agriculture can be linked with poor health, including malnutrition, malaria, foodborne illnesses, human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), livestock-related diseases, chronic diseases and occupational ill-health. Health also affects agriculture: people’s health status influences the demand for agricultural outputs, and in

agricultural communities, poor health reduces work performance, reducing income and productivity and perpetuating a downward spiral into ill-health. Yet the health and agricultural sectors remain poorly coordinated. Leadership from global

experience. Second, institutions concerned with global health and agriculture should build capacity, policies and governance structures to facilitate linked approaches, starting by setting up forums to bring the stakeholders together. Third, agricultural and health researchers should together identify and prioritize research gaps and needs, and develop a joint research agenda; and fourth, all stakeholders should invest in capacity building to help translate the conceptual links into comprehensive action on the ground. The goal is clear: healthier people and healthier agriculture.

Now talking about ‘Biotechnology’, decades of documented evidence demonstrates that agricultural biotechnology is a safe and beneficial technology that contributes to

both environmental and economic development. Agricultural biotechnology has been used to improve the nutritional content of a variety of crops in an effort to meet the needs of an increasing population. Genetic engineering can produce crops with a higher concentration of vitamins. For example, golden rice contains three genes that allow plants to produce compounds that are converted to vitamin A in the human body. This nutritionally improved rice is designed to combat the world’s leading cause of blindness—vitamin A deficiency. Similarly, the Banana 21 project has worked to improve the nutrition in bananas to combat micronutrient deficiencies in Uganda. By genetically modifying bananas to contain vitamin A and iron, Banana 21 has helped foster a solution to

micronutrient deficiencies through the vessel of a staple food and major starch source in Africa. Additionally, crops can be engineered to reduce toxicity or to produce varieties with removed allergens for sustainability. Farmers choose biotech crops because they increase yields and lower production costs. Today, the majority of biotechnology researchers fund the development of products that directly improve human health—vaccines, drugs, biologics, diagnostic tests, medical devices, laboratory services, and many others. Biotechnology also drives much innovation in the agricultural sciences. For example, scientists use biotechnology as a tool to develop crops that are resistant to pests and diseases, to derive biofuels from various feedstocks, and produce enzymes that improve

animal feed efficiency. The industries related to these should be flourished on a large scale in order to benefit the agriculture and population. As with the development of any new technology there are concerns about associated risks, and agricultural biotechnology is no exception. All crops developed using genetic engineering (GMO) are subject to extensive safety testing before being released for commercial use. Risk assessments are conducted for these new varieties, and only those that are safe for human use are released.

By the means of Wellness & Krishi 2018 expo, Krishi Jagran will try its best to contact all these sectors and disseminate information to farmers so that it can enhance the level of farming in India and help them to adapt newer technologies in every sector.

W holeLeaves is a mission to promote a culture of wellness. It proposes

a movement from ‘symptomatic disease treatment’ to preventing it through wellness. A movement to ensure complete wellbeing – physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual through authentic use of plants and its parts. Our intent is to bring the bounties of natural flora to all, by manufacturing, packing and selling whole leaves in their pristine form, along with knowledge dissemination to empower people to take their health in their own hands and garner responsibly the different health benefits of such products by ensuring rationale usage.

The WholeLeaves StoryThe startup is a commitment story of two doctors, who realized early in their medical life that long-term cure and prevention of most of the ailments reside only in nature. Nature is bountiful, curative, healing, and yet so under-utilized. The reasons, as they understood were:• Inadequate, inappropriate, and

half-baked information around usages of the flora around us.

• Unavailability of plant products in pure form. The powdered form, tablets, oils, all these are susceptible to adulteration and usage of chemicals for fragrance and preservation.Triggered with a resolve to

overcome these hindrances, they studied our scriptures and books on Ayurveda, met botanists, dug out traditional knowledge around plant medicines in India, and visited the natural habitats of a range of plants across the length and breadth of our country to bring out:• Authentic product in their pristine

form – Our leaves are dried whole leaves that do not have any preservative, adulteration, or added flavors. The naturally

dried leaves have three times more potency than live leaves, making our product richer in value and cost-effective too.

• Brought from the appropriate sources, harvested at the right time – Every plant needs a unique set of temperature, pressure and climatic environment to achieve their potency. Moreover, the plant parts need to be harvested at the right time to ensure the active ingredients have the required efficacy. In sourcing, we have taken care of these facts, bringing leaves from the place they originally belong. Therefore, thyme is sourced from Nilgiris while rosemary comes from the Western Ghats (Tamil Nadu).

• Extensive and accurate information around usages of the leaves – We speak of not just the benefits of the leaves, but also how to harness those, how not to use it, how to preserve its potency to the longest, and a host of other aspects related to each leaf in its natural form.

The WholeLeaves PromiseThis Mantra from Upanishad is our philosophy:

“Sarve Bhawantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah! “

Knowledge is power! And WholeLeaves resolves to empower people with well researched information on all the leaves in its repertoire – benefits, warning, precautions, and the best way to consume.

Authics all the way – Source to SoulWith AUTHICS (authentic-ethics) being at the core of WholeLeaves, you can rest assured you are being provided the most authentic information on our range of leaves. We offer leaves in the ‘whole form’; thereby preventing undulation of real benefits of consumption/use of such plant/ plant parts in whole or in combination.

Tell us about your company and its vision?Astroglia Pharma Pvt. Ltd. est. 2018 is a market disruptive, revolutionary company that makes cognitive enhancers and brain health products. Our products under the NeuroClub brand are categorized under Nootropics. Nootropics are supplements that enhance the functions of the brain and preserve memories. NeuroClub takes nootropics one notch higher by formulating them only from medicinal herbs so they are completely safe for regular consumption and have no side eff ects. Our goal is to help every Indian achieve success by being their best versions all the time. We do so by enabling people to maximize their minds while protecting their brain from age-related problems like Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

What were the key factors that have contributed to the success of the company?NeuroClub products are carefully formulated by Neuroscientists to remedy focus defi ciency, mental stress, and memory loss. Brain health is improved by regular consumption and the negative eff ects of lifestyle, alcohol and aging are countered. Medicinal herbs such as Shalaki, Gotu Kola, Brahmi, Ashwaganda and more are carefully chosen based on their function and infused as per our formulation. Th eir highest potency is extracted by NeuroClub’s

thorough manufacturing process, so they perform not just on some, but on everybody. Our proprietary mechanism called Enhanced AbsorptionTM involves extracted nootropics to be taken in by the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) to holistically improve brain functions. Most of the drugs and supplements marketed for the brain fail to even reach the BBB, so their promises don’t work at all! NeuroClub does.

How do you diff erentiate your company from the other players operating in the same segment? We take great pride in telling you that our products are naturally derived with no chemical infusion. Modern synthetic medicine and supplements may quickly solve one problem but harm the body in other ways (side-eff ects). NeuroClub thus decided to harness only the power from natural herbs, that have been scientifi cally recognized to solve health problems.

Traditional medicines have golden ingredients whose powers aren’t harnessed correctly. With the knowledge of Neuroscience and modern technology, and extensive scientifi c research and experimentation, we have chosen

few medicinal herbs We extracted their highest potencies, combined and formulated them to give the best results to solve diff erent mental problems and improve the quality of life.

NeuroClub supplements have proprietary Enhanced Absorption™ formulation. It is a scientifi c process that extracts the highest potency from the bioactives to increases their absorption into the blood brain barrier (BBB). Most available natural supplements do not even reach the BBB unless taken in heavy doses. Whereas, you only need to take one supplement of each variety a day.

NeuroClub is disrupting the fi eld of pharma by formulating products made through detailed scientifi c research with the ingredients derived only from the herbs known to have minimal side-eff ects. NeuroClub extracts only the part of these herbs that has the medicinal property and combines it with extracts from other herbs to make unique formulations

that can address the range of mechanisms that are known to be out of sync in our brains.

Our goal is for everybody to benefi t from NeuroClub. We want to help people maximize their potential in their lives. We are committed to provide high quality, naturally sourced, scientifi cally perfected products at a lower cost. Even when we make low margins.

Future Expansion Plans for India? We are already an e-commerce company. Th is makes us available in every part of the country where shipping is possible. On the retail front, we plan on starting with the Delhi - NCR region, soon aft er moving on to the other metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore.

How do you see the industry developing in the future?Brain health products and Nootropics is a high growth segment all around the world. Th e global brain health market has a CAGR of 19.6%. In India, it has not taken any eff ect, possibly because of the lack of awareness and apprehension of the Indian consumer to take brain products that could have harmful side-eff ects. At the same time, we do see more of an acknowledgment by the Indian population of the importance of brain health and therefore we see increasing demand for brain specifi c products, especially those that are sourced naturally.

What are your views on our association?NeuroClub wishes to make every Indian the best version of themselves. With your help, we can make customers aware of the need for better brain health, possibilities of a calm and able mind, and the many benefi ts that NeuroClub’s products bring in their lives.
