All of our Education for Conservation programs are developed and delivered by qualified teachers. These programs can be booked at no extra cost to entry via our Customer Engagement Team on 1300 966 784.
Learn through play – we have many purposefully designed play areas around the Zoo. They provide opportunities for role play, parallel play and exploration and can be used to spark discussion and learning.
We have a mobile First Aid Officer on site. If you or any of your students are hurt just ask any staff member to radio our First Aid Officer and they will come to you.
Middle Years Years 3 – 8
Enhance your students’ experienceDiscussion points1. If you had to save one species in the Zoo from
extinction, which species would it be?
2. Why is that species important enough to save?
3. How can you be a hero for animals in the Zoo andtheir cousins in the wild?
Ways you can learn while you’re at the ZooSpend some time quietly observing the Zoo animals
• What adaptations do they have to help them to survive?
• Where do you think they live in the wild?
• How are they connected in their ecosystem?
Ask Zoo staff, take notice of enclosure design and look for Zoo signs and videos to learn more
The Zoo has put lots of signs and stories around Melbourne Zoo to help you to learn about our amazing species. You might learn about how they’re classified or what threatens their survival in the wild.
Go to the Keeper Talks
Our keepers love our species just as much as you do and love to tell people stories about them. At the end of the talk you’re always welcome to ask them questions.
Please note that Keeper Talks go for an average of 8 minutes, so please plan ahead and get there on time.
