Te Audi A8 signicantly exceeds in lengthand width both its predecessor and its competi-tors. Its height, however, remains below that o itsimmediate rivals in Germany – the proportionsollow the dynamic line.

Te A8 displays its single-rame radiator grillelike a proud coat o arms. Framed by a chromeedge, the grille presents a new design – sculptured,three- dimensional and rich in details. With an-gular upper corners, it is neatly integrated in theront section, while the prominent, horizontalchrome braces emphasize the vehicle width.

Te Audi A8 looks out on the world throughnewly designed headlights – with xenon plusunits and the innovative ull LED headlights,a technology Audi was the rst to introduce worldwide in the R8 high-perormance sportscar. Te adaptive light system augments the xe-

Tenavigation system analyzes the route ahead andrelays the data to the light computer to activatehighway lighting with its extended range whilestill on the ramp to the highway, or example.Beore entering an intersection, the system acti-vates the cornering light, which provides wider-angle illumination and thus enhances saety.

Te high-end solution on board the new A8 isthe ull LED headlights. Tey give the big sedanan unmistakable appearance even in daylight and

even more so ater the all o darkness. Teir revo-lutionary optics mean a departure rom the large,tubular light modules commonly used today.

Te low beams comprise ten individual mod-ules orming an arc situated below the wing-shaped chrome contour known as the ‘wing.’

Just below this is another arc o 22 white and 22yellow LEDs or the daytime running lights andthe turn signals.

Located above the wing are the high beams, whose light is generated by two powerul our-chip LEDs and a ree surace reector system.Te ull LED headlights oer a number o unc-tional advantages in everyday situations. Witha color temperature o 5,500 Kelvin, their lightresembles daylight and thus is much less tiringto the eyes. Tey also oer efciency advantages.Te low beams, or example, consume only 40 watts per unit, a bit less than the already highly efcient xenon plus headlights.

BoDyBig, strong, sae and yet amazingly lightweight

– the aluminum body once again sets new stan-dards. Its low weight is a key actor or the out-standing driving dynamics, exemplary efciency and very good comort o the new A8. Audi, thelightweight design pioneer o the automotive in-dustry, again demonstrates its leadership role.

Fiteen years ago the our rings brand intro-duced the technology o the Audi Space Frame(ASF) into production – with the rst A8 gen-eration. ASF has proven its merit outstandingly;

and now Audi is again using it in a much moreadvanced orm. In its basic design the ASF body brings a latticed ramework to mind. Its skeletoncomprises extruded sections and pressure diecastparts o aluminum. Te aluminum panels – suchas the roo panels and the side panels – are joinedby riction connections.

Audi has substantially increased the strengtho the higher-strength body components in thenew A8, thereby signicantly reducing both ma-terial thickness and weight.

One o the keys or this is a novel compositematerial or the aluminum panels. Te use o thisnew, high-strength aluminum alloy alone enableda weight saving o 6.5 kilograms (14.33 lb).

the A8 has many other strengths. Te static

torsional stiness has increased by 25 percentcompared with the predecessor, already a leaderin the eld; it orms the basis or the precise,dynamic handling. In terms o lightweight qual-ity — the relationship between weight, torsionalstiness and size — the body achieved an im-provement o 20 percent. Te ASF principleensures comortably low levels o vibrations andimpressive quietness on board or that typical Audi eeling.

Audi regards the development o a new ve-hicle as a holistic mission. Te overall energy balance sheet covering the entire vehicle lie re-veals the new A8 achieves better results than its

Superior power and high efciency – the new A8 makes its debut on the market with a strongV8 engine. With 372 hp, they never ail to im-press with their superior power and mighty butdiscreet propulsion. All engines eature directuel injection, and consume 15 percent less uelthan their respective predecessors.

Te engine in the A8 has intelligent elementsrom Audi’s modular efciency system on board.During deceleration the recuperation systemconverts the kinetic energy to electric power, which is buered in the battery. In the innova-tive thermal management a computer monitors

numerous actuators or the ideal distribution o the heat ows between the engine, transmissionand interior in any situation. Ater the cold startthe engine is temporarily ully uncoupled romthe cooling circuit, considerably shortening the warm-up phase with its high loss o riction.

It accelerates the A8 rom zero to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds, with the propulsion end-ing (as in all engine variants) at the electronically controlled speed o 250 km/h (155.34 mph).

DriveTrain

Te new Audi A8 oers the utmost superi-ority also in power transmission. A new, elec-tronically controlled 8-speed tiptronic systemand quattro permanent all- wheel drive rom the

production line. On request, Audi also installsthe dynamic sport dierential.

Te 8-speed tiptronic is a totally newly devel-oped automatic transmission. Its great strengthlies in the high overall gear ratio o 7.0:1 betweenthe shortest and longest gear ratio, reducing theuel consumption by about six percent. Startingo, the A8 accelerates dynamically, rolling alonghighways with low, consumption-reducing revs. All gear changes are nearly unnoticeably sot andsmooth, very ast and highly exible.

Te 8-speed tiptronic achieves a high level o

efciency. One o the actors behind this is thehighly efcient pump or supplying oil, anotherthe heating o the oil by the coolant ollowing acold start, or lowering rictional loss.

Te dynamic shit program (DSP) that con-trols the transmission eatures the automatic

operating modes D and S. A pioneering in-novation rom Audi is its networking with thedetailed route data supplied by the optionalMMI navigation plus system. By means o this

data the DSP incorporates upcoming curves inits gearshit strategy – it avoids unnecessary gearchanges on narrow roads, or example.

Te new selector lever on the center tunnelis or selecting driving modes – shaped like thethrust lever on a yacht, it orms a highlight in theelegant interior o the sedan. Te ergonomically perected lever communicates with the transmis-sion electronically. Gear changes are triggered by a brie tap o the lever, ater which it automati-cally returns to its center position. You can alsochange gears using the rocker switches on the

steering wheel.Te quattro permanent all-wheel drive systemequally contributes to the new A8’s leading posi-tion. Its mechanical center dierential managesnormal automotive operation: 60 percent to thedierential o the rear axle and 40 percent to theront – a sporty characteristic. Should slip occurat a wheel, the dierential sends the large part o the torque to the axle with the better traction.

are the deluxe ront center armrest, the conve-nience key or accessing the vehicle, the electricsun blinds or the rear, the 230 V outlet on thetunnel, the our-zone automatic air condition-ing, the auxiliary heating and the ambient lightpackage. Te comort seats or the driver and
