First pupils at Regis School in Tettenhall plan reunion

On 8th September 1955, the Regis School in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton (now the Kings School) opened its doors as one of the first comprehensive schools in Britain, taking in 207 pupils from the surrounding district.A small group of these pupils are looking to contact as many of the first intake of 207 so that they can organize a reunion to celebrate the opening of the school and meet to remember that time in 1955, some 60 years ago.The appointed headmaster was W.G.Cretney from the Isle of Man, who attracted the best teachers from all over the country, keen to join in the experimental school. So successful was the school that Mr.Cretney was knighted in 1966 for his services to comprehensive education.If you were part of this first intake at the Regis School and would like to get involved in this nostalgic event, please contact Kath Coope (nee Hill) at:

PGA Golf Tips from Jeremy Nicholls at Ledene Golf Centre..... Keeping Your Swing Thoughts Simple - When approached about golf lessons one of the first comments sometimes made to me is “you ‘re not going to rip my swing apart” the fact of the matter is your average club player doesn’t want an over technical golf lesson , they want a simple solution to their swing faults which they can use to help them win their monthly medal. If you have been struggling with your game due to lack of practice during the winter months. Have a look at these basic fundamentals below and see if you are achieving these points when setting up to the golf ball.

• GRIP - Make sure the club is comfortable in your fingers allowing you to hinge your wrists and release the club head properly.• BODY ALIGNMENT - Make sure the shoulders, hips and feet are pointing at your intended target• POSTURE - Creating and maintaining the angle at address throughout the swing will help the club move on its correct path into the ball•BALL POSITION - With the longer clubs eg driver/fairway/rescue clubs –inside the left heel, 5 iron/pitching wedge – middle of the feet.

A Word From Your MP......................... One of the best opportunities I have being the Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton South West is to visit local businesses and meet the team behind them which makes them a success. On my recent visit to Thompson AVC with Andrea Leadson MP the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, I saw for myself a company that has grown in the past 20 years, starting out with just one van into a multi-million pound, forward looking technology business with over 70 employees and apprentices, seeking to take on more. Their success is the culmination of years of hard work and I was pleased to learn that they had been recognised through the Green Shoots Fund. The Express and Star Green Shoots Fund aims to help small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Black Country to create new jobs and promote growth in the region. Thompson AVC is one of many examples of growth and advancement in Wolverhampton. Thanks to companies like these unemployment in Wolverhampton South West is down from 8.2% in May 2010 to 5.6% in November 2014 and why in that same period the number of 18-24 year old JSA claimants is down by 4%. It’s because of businesses like Thompson AVC, among many others here in Wolverhampton, creating jobs, investing in new technology and taking advantage of the opportunities this government has created.I am proud of what has been achieved since I was elected in 2010 to serve in Parliament. There is every reason to be confident in the future of our city and in the few months left leading to the election I will continue to support all of those who start new businesses in Wolverhampton.
