Chapter I - General Information 1.1 Introduction BEX-220 is an energy-efficient platform that runs on the low heat-dissipation Geode LX800 processor, at a Nano-ITX small form factor. Consuming only a maximum power of 2.4W (TDP) and typical power of 1.6W at 500MHz, BEX-220 provides great performance and full desktop functionality to embedded devices. With a security block that utilizes 128-bit AES (CBC/ECB) algorithms, BEX-220 is designed to protect your valuable information by encrypting data against security breach from hackers. 1.2 Physical Features

Chapter II – Jumper Setting 2.1 Precautions Computer components and electronic circuit boards can be easily damaged by discharges of static electricity. Working on the computers that are still connected to a power supply can be extremely dangerous. Please make sure the guidelines below are followed to avoid damage to your computer or yourself:

Always disconnect the unit from the power outlet whenever you are working inside the chassis.

If possible, wear a grounded wrist strap when you are working inside the chassis. Alternatively, discharge any static

electricity by touching the bare metal chassis of the unit, or the bare metal body of any other grounded appliance.

Hold electronic circuit boards (such as BEX-220 board) by the edges only. Do not touch the components on the board

unless it is necessary to do so. Do not flex or stress the circuit board.

Leave all components in the static-proof package, which they were shipped with, until they are ready for installation.

Use correct screw and do not over drive the screw.

BEX-220 User’s Manual 2-2

2.2 Jumper Settings A jumper is the simplest kind of electric switch consisting of two metal pins, which function as electrical contact points, in the form of a cap or plug. When setting the jumpers, ensure that the jumper caps are placed on the correct pins. When the jumper cap is placed on both pins, the jumper is short. If you remove the jumper cap, or place the jumper cap on just one pin, the jumper is open. Refer to the illustrations below for examples of what the 2-pin and 3-pin jumpers look like when they are short (on) and open (off). 2-Pin Jumper Open Short

3-Pin Jumper Pin-1 and Pin-2 are short

Chapter III – Installation This chapter shows you how to install Memory. 3.1 Installing and Removing Memory BEX-220 comes with 1x 200-pin SO-DIMM socket. To install the DDR modules: 1. Locate the memory slot on the board. 2. Hold the DDR module so that the key of the DDR module align with those on the memory slot. 3. Insert the module into the socket at a slight angle (approximately 30 degrees). Note that the

socket and module are both keyed, which means that the module can be installed only in one direction.

4. Apply firm and even pressure to each end of the module until you feel it was snapped down into the socket.

5. With the module properly seated in the socket, rotate the module downward. Continue pressing downward until the clips at each end lock into positions.

To remove the DDR module, press the clips with both hands.
