Doctoral Thesis

Politecnico di Torino, along with other Italian Universities, promotes the open access to the publications produced, including Doctoral Thesis, following the example of many Italian and foreign Universities. The open access record PORTO will be freely accessible by Internet and will be one of the worldwide open records which are even more relevant in the landscape of the international research.

Each Phd student can submit a copy of the thesis using the U-GOV system (Research Catalogue) accessing to the intranet section MyPoli La mia ricerca (https://www.swas.polito.it/intra/infoindi/ricerca/default.asp) click on Accesso al Catalogo della Ricerca -

Nuova Interfaccia (Inserimento/modifica pubblicazioni).

To accede to the intranet MyPoli you have to log in using your account Mypoli/SWAS d0XXXXX@polito.it. If you dont remember your user and password, you shall contact pubblicazioni@polito.it

The day after the institutional portal Porto is uploaded on the basis of the publications on UGOV. In the U-GOV upload page, several items are available for the Doctoral thesis, and it is possible to upload the attachments, too.

In the case that confidentially agreements were entered into, it is possible to ask for an embargo period of twelfth month maximum, and, after that, the thesis will be published.

To authorize the publishing of the open access thesis, the author could choose, between the Creative Commons licences, the one is the most adequate relating to his/her requirements.

If the Phd student do not want to render his thesis public on line, he/she has to upload the file on U-GOV, anyway, rendering it NOT public.

At the end of the uploading, it is necessary to print the last page in which he/she sees the definite forward in the record and give it to the Doctoral School to prove the upload.

3. Recognize yourself as the author of the Atheneum

4. Search your name write in name and surname follow by '*'

Data fine embargo: introduce the date in which the embargo finishes

5. Access to the attachments:

a. Non pubblico Accesso privato/ristretto: Choose this one if you want the attachment of your thesis not visible on PORTO. The attachment is, anyway, visible on U-GOV for the author of the thesis and for who works in the Administration

6. Creative Commons Licences

Belong to he model some rights reserved, in which the author chooses to grant some powers to the public, in order to increase the availability of his/her intellectual work. To publish under the CC licence, the author have to maintain the rights for him/her, avoid to lease them to the editor, or to obtain a specific authorization from the editor to publish it under CC licence.

There are 6 typology of Creative Commons Licence

- Licence CC BY ND Attribution No derivatives

- Licence CC BY - NC-ND Attribution Non commercial No derivatives

- Licence CC BY NC Attribution Non commercial

- Licence CC BY NC SA Attribution Non commercial Share alike

- Licence CC BY SA Attribution Share alike

Definition of the attribution of the Creative Commons Licences:

- Attribution: the author must be quoted in the work

- Non commercial: the work must not be used for commercial purposes

- No derivatives: it is prohibited to use a part or the whole work to create another work

- Share alike: all the derivative works must be created with the same licence.

7. Format attachments

In UGOV the attachments of the full text of PhD thesis must be in PDF format (possibly in PDF/A

format, which Adobe guarantees the one supported for a more time). The maximum extension for

each attachments has to be of 10MB, for PhD thesis of major extension, the file has to be divided.

Moreover the total extension of every attachments is not to be over 150MB. To divide the thesis

you can use PdfSam (http://www.pdfsam.org). Thesis of great extension are due of the use of

images to high definition, that you can reduce with the creation of PDF or using applications that

imitate a driver for print for printing on PDF as Bullzip (http://www.bullzip.com).
