Since our last newsletter, we have had a fantastic Book Award Assembly where we honoured our students that
completed an exceedingly good year.
We also had our Student Councillor elections; the results of which were announced at the Book Award
Assembly.
Today’s Graduation Assembly was very memorable and very moving.
A huge thank you to the Year 6 teachers for all the hard work they undertook to ensure the success of the
graduation. I do hope our graduating students come back to visit us and share their successes with us.
Next week is still very busy - we have Mega Reward for all of our students. Our Year 6 students are going to
Darklight and we have a Christmas Assembly to finish the year.
As our eleventh year draws to a close, I would like to say thank you to all of the people that have contributed to
making Two rocks P.S. a great school.
Thank you to all of our wonderful parents and caregivers for supporting us this year by helping out around the
school in classrooms, the library and with fund raising ventures; for helping with homework and home reading
as well as ensuring that your verbal support is always there.
Thank you to our dedicated Board members who give up so much of their valuable time to assist me with
advice and support.
Thank you to our wonderful students who make our school the best school and our job so enjoyable.
Thank you also to my wonderful staff who do an amazing job ensuring that all of our students needs are met
and that our students remain focused and happy.
Two Rocks P.S. staff are all dedicated professionals who work so well as part of a team committed to ensuring
that our students have the best instruction in the finest possible environment in order for our students to
experience success.
Finally I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year and will look forward to greeting
everyone back again in 2019.

What’s Happening? Pre-Primary What a busy year it has been in Pre-Primary! We have all grown so much over the year and we are excited to transition to Year 1. Over the past few weeks, we have begun our transition by playing in the areas outside of the Pre-Primary playground - the adventure playground seems to be a firm favourite! We also took a look at our new classrooms for next year and had a taste of what life in Year One will be like. In English, we completed all of our sounds in Soundwaves and we are now consolidating our sound and letter knowledge. During Mathematics, we are continuing to revise the concepts we have learnt over the year and completing Christmas themed activities. In Geography we have taken a trip around the globe - discovering how different countries celebrate Christmas and learning how to say 'Merry Christmas' in different languages. As Christmas nears, the class elf 'Shara' has appeared - we are excited to see what she has in store for us! Year 1 In Literacy we have been revising all of the writing genres we have learnt during the year. It is lovely to see how much progress they have made and how wonderful their writing is now at the end of Year 1. In Maths we have enjoyed consolidating what we have learnt through table top activities and the students have had a taste of what's to come in Year 2. We have had a wonderful year and they will be missed as they go to Year 2!! Year 2 We have had a great end to Term 4. We have revisited Narrative writing and got to write a narrative about Santa being sick. We had a great time working out who could save the day in our stories. We used the iPads to type these up, made our font bigger and even inserted a picture! All skills we have learned this year! On Friday, we had the Colour Run which was SO much fun. We hope that we get to do it again next year . Year 3 In Literacy, we have been learning about poetry. We have been looking at figurative language and have written a quatrain and will be writing and publishing a Haiku. In Numeracy, we have been using the chant of ‘5 or more, raise the score, four or less let it rest’ to assist us when rounding numbers. We have been partitioning four digit numbers and locating them on number lines. In Digital Technology, we have continued our Sphero Olympics where we have been working collaboratively within teams to complete missions and win tournaments. One of our missions was to construct a protective shell out of recycled items for our Sphero to hold four ping pong balls which integrated STEM. We then battled to see which robot had the most ping pong balls remaining after the robots entered the battle field for their fight.
Year 4 Literacy – We spent the second half of the term crossing curriculums to imagine what Two Rocks would have been like in 1790s. We had a great discussion about the differences of the past and present Two Rocks and imagined what it would have been like to be a part of a community or tribe during this time. We wrote a diary entry in the Day of the Life where we went hunting, gathering and building. We are now focusing on poetry and having a ‘pun’ time. Mathematics – During Maths this term, we have been focused on completing our Stepping Stones to be able to have some more engaging STEM approached numeracy sessions to finish off the year. We have explored directions using maps, solving problems using money and finding out the likelihood of particular events using topic-specific vocabulary. Sandy and Lisa visited the Year 4’s to teach them about Aboriginal language and art. Sandy was kind enough to provide each student within the cohort a didgeridoo which we all decorated using symbols to make a story. We had such a blast! Miss Stokes and Mrs Bell were impressed to learn that some of the students had a hidden talent of being able to play the didgeridoo. Thank you Sandy and Lisa for the insightful afternoon! Year 6 The Year 6’s have been preparing for their graduation ceremony and have been looking forward to the exciting activities their teachers have planned for them. The Year 6’s would like to thank all their teachers, staff and parents for their support during their Primary School years at TRPS! LOTE In Week 8 from 26 to 30 November, every class from pre-primary to year 6 participated in cooking stir fried noodles with vegetables in their Chinese lessons. This recipe used the carrots, silver beet and spring onions that were grown from our very own kitchen garden. It also has Shiitake mushroom, a winter mushroom frequently used in Chinese and Japanese cooking. It was so pleasing to see so many students who did not like eating mushrooms normally try Shiitake and enjoy it. This is a recipe that was well liked by most of the students. You are welcome to

City of Wanneroo Expands Bin Sticker Competition - Congratulations from the Waste Education Officer In July 2018, Beau, one of our students, wrote a letter to the City asking for permission for his class to design some stickers to be put on bins along the Yanchep and Two Rocks foreshore to remind people to “Take 3 for the Sea” – that is, pick up three pieces of litter every day to stop them from entering our oceans. Always keen to work with young people to help them make the world a better place, the City’s Waste Education Officer worked with the school to design and create some persuasive posters to be placed on park bins around Yanchep and Two Rocks. Following the success of the pilot competition at Two Rocks Primary School with the Year 2 classes there, the opportunity to design a bin sticker to encourage the community to reduce litter was extended to all schools across the City of Wanneroo. The City’s Waste Operations team were then tasked with the unenviable job of voting for the design which would be turned into bin stickers that will placed on bins across the three wards. Competition was fierce and there were so many fabulous designs for our drivers to choose from. However, there could only ever be three winners… These designs are in the process of being turned into bin stickers to be placed on bins in parks across the City of Wanneroo this summer. Keep an eye out for the designs in a park near you. Many schools have also requested the designs back so that they might turn them into posters for around their school. A big thank you to all the schools, teachers and students who participated in the bin sticker competition. I encourage you all to ‘take three for the sea’ during the upcoming school holidays by picking up three pieces of litter each day. We can also help keep Wanneroo and Australia clean by reducing our use of single use items like plastic bottles, bags and straws when out and about. Small changes every day by everyone make a huge difference. Carols in the Park The Senior and Junior Choirs sang at the ‘Carols in the Park’ which was held on Saturday evening 1st of December at Charnwood Park. The
choir sang beautifully and really got the Christmas spirit going with their beautiful voices and upbeat Christmas Carols. Thank you to all the
parents for coming along to support us. I would like to give both the Junior and the Senior Choirs my biggest thanks for being with me on
our 2018 journey. You are all amazing and I hope you will join Choir again next year. To our Senior Choir in Year 6 thanks for all the
wonderful memories and fun times had. We will miss you and wish you all the very best in your High School Education. Merry Christmas

Triple P Program Self-esteem By Professor Matt Sanders Single parents often say they feel it’s more difficult to discipline a child without a partner’s support. But it’s very important to approach discipline in exactly the same way as if you were parenting with someone else. It’s vital to have a game plan and be consistent. That means setting house rules that don’t fluctuate. It may surprise some people to know that children like boundaries. Kids very easily become comfortable with the familiarity of a routine at bedtime, at mealtimes or when it’s time to get out of the house in the morning. Positive and predictable routines mean discipline will become much easier. Life won’t have to be full of big battles over little issues! Another worry many single parents express is the lack of a significant male or female influence in the household. Mothers may feel this more keenly when they’re raising a son alone, as many fathers do when they’re raising a daughter. It’s always important to encourage your child to have role models and mentors. Role models can show children how to behave, and what is the appropriate thing to do. So, single parents may want to look for opportunities for their children to get to know and have other men or women in their life. It could be a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a trusted family friend or a sports coach. Having someone who will serve a mentoring role throughout the child’s life can be a great example to – and support for – the child.
