Congratulations to the students who made their First Eucharist last Sunday. It was a great celebration. Thank you to Tanya Gilbert for her work as sacramental coordinator for helping to prepare the children and thank you to Fr Karel for his efforts in celebrating the liturgy. This week we are celebrating Literacy and Numeracy week within the school. On Monday students were placed into groups throughout the school. In each room one of the shortlisted books for Book Week was read to the students. The students then had to respond to the story through Art. I was most impressed with the cooperation shown throughout the school with many of the older students acting as great role models for the younger children in their groups. The artwork will be on display at our assembly later in the week. Please note that due to many students in older classes being away on Friday the assembly for this week will take place on Thursday. School Policies At our school board meeting last week we finalised the school policies on Swimming and Sun Protection. The updated policies can now be located on our school website. The school board is still currently working on the Pastoral Care Policy which was sent out for review earlier in the term. Tully Showgrounds Cassowary Coast Regional Council wants everyone to have their say about the Tully Showgrounds Redevelopment. Community members are encouraged to put forward ideas by going to Council's new Tully Showgrounds Redevelopment website page. To get there, go to www.cassowarycoast.qld.gov.au and look for the “Have your Say - Tully Showgrounds" link on the left- hand side of the home page. The page includes information sheets, concept plans, a quick survey, an online poll and frequently asked questions. Other ways to "Have Your Say" are by emailing ideas to [email protected] or picking up a survey from the Tully Council Chambers or Tully Library. The online forum will help different sectors of the community to provide input, in particular youths, young parents and those who find it harder to get out and about. The closing date for the survey is 31 August. Recycling Program In 2011 our school participated in a program to recycle old mobile phones. We collected 139 phones for recycling and as a result of this project we have received a Sony Handy Cam Camera for the school. Thank you to Mrs Camilleri for coordinating this project and for continuing to follow up on our prize. THOSE WHO ARE SICK.... Please continue to pray for those in our community that are sick. We ask that they and their families find strength and comfort with you Lord.

SATISFACTION SURVEYS As mentioned in last week’s newsletter parents, students and staff are required to complete satisfaction surveys. These surveys are part of Federal Government compliance. As mentioned previously the surveys are anonymous and a summary of the results are placed on the “Catholic Education Services - School Website”. I am inviting as many parents as possible to complete these surveys. You may do so by clicking on the link below if viewing this newsletter online or by typing in the link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2012ParentStClaresTully A hardcopy version of the survey was previously sent out. I am encouraging as many families as possible to participate in completing these surveys either electronically or via the hardcopy version. Please remember that if completing the hardcopy version of the survey it will need to be returned to school by Wednesday September 5th as a member of staff has to then input the information onto the survey monkey link.
