Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week has seen our students busy with excursions, camps and practical activities.
Whilst our Secondary Arts students took to the stage last week in The Scene Project, our
Primary students have been busy rehearsing for the Gladstone Eisteddfod where they will
be performing tomorrow. We wish them all the best on their performance and know they
will represent the school well. There is only 1 week to go before the 10th Botanic to
Bridge. So far we only have a handful of students registered to participate. Please con-
sider joining us for a fantastic family day out, whether you run, walk or stroll with some
friends. Each entry for Mt Larcom School goes towards our Volley Ball court.
Don’t forget, Monday is Gladstone Show Holiday so we will see you all back at school on
Tuesday 13th August.
Please remember families, every day counts! Going to school is a legal requirement.
Under the law, you must make sure your child is enrolled and attends school on ALL
school days unless you have a reasonable excuse. You must not keep your child away
from school for minor reasons. Student attendance this week was 88%.
Would you please note if your child will be absent from school, we would appreciate you
contacting the office by 9.30 a.m. so that we can record their absence.

Message from Joe Tappenden...
To all my Ag students and the staff at Mt Larcom School,
I wanted to tell you all how much the last 3 years working with
you at the school in the Ag departments has meant to me.
They have been some of the best times of my life.
Over the years, I have worked with many of you in a lot of differ-
ent situations. I have asked you to do things that you have
found challenging but you have all worked hard, you have done
your best and I can’t tell you how proud I am to call all of you
my kids and I couldn’t be prouder of you all.
I needed to write to you to say how much I appreciated the
presentation last Thursday. To see you mob get off the bus
made me think of all our trips together. Seems like you all en-
joyed those trips too. There are so many good memories that I
couldn't even start to say what was best.
Anyway, thank you for all your presentations, wishes and gifts.
The kind words you said, the farewells from the steers, horses,
chooks and sheep really touched my heart. I felt proud to have
been part of this part of your lives. Seeing you all last Thursday
really brought home to me how much you have learnt and how
skilful you have all become.
I would like to thank the staff at Mt Larcom School for all their
support in my time there. I would like to especially thank Norm
and Lynton for everything they have done for me.
I wish all of you all the best in the future.
Cheers — Joe
Secondary HPE...
Our secondary students have been focusing on a variety of health topics during their Health and Physical Edu-
cation classes. A lot of this terms work revolves around making healthy and positive decisions in relation to
risky and dangerous situations. During their practical Physical Education lessons our students have been en-
gaging in a variety of physical activities including striking and fielding games, futsal, and even rhythmic move-
ment in preparation for a unit based on dance as a physical activity.

The Scene Project 2019…
In Terms 2 and 3 the Performing Arts students have been rehearsing for The Scene Project which recently cul-
minated in a performance at The Walter Reid Theatre in Rockhampton. Each year the Arts Major students are
given the opportunity to participate in The Scene Project, which is a state-wide theatre project run by Queens-
land Theatre Company's Education and Youth Program with schools in regional areas in order to engage stu-
dents in the Performing Arts. Our Arts Major students from years 8-10 have been deconstructing and rehears-
ing scenes from the play in preparation for their performance this term. They had the opportunity to perform a
15 minute interpretation of the script to an audience of QTC actors and peers from Rockhampton State High,
Emmaus College and Toolooa State High School. Students worked tirelessly in classes and performed on Pa-
rade to the Secondary School and to the Primary School the afternoon before their Outcome Day trying to tight-
en and block their scenes ready for their final performance.
I am very proud of all of the students who were involved in this year’s Scene Project. We received great feed-
back from the Queensland Theatre Team and students from other schools. I was
incredibly impressed by the standard of the final performance as all of our per-
formers stepped up on the day! Bring on next year! – Mrs Rothe
“Being my first Scene Project, it was something I hadn’t done before. Judging
my performance against the performance of others helped me to improve.” –
Bailey
“Better than last year” – Charlotte
“Very enjoyable and helped build our skills in Drama” – Kaden
“Best thing I’ve ever experienced in my whole life” – Chloe
“It was a great experience and I had lots of fun. It was great meeting new people
and receiving feedback on our performance” – Abigael

Our library has a HUGE selection of books for all the students to choose from. From “fact” to “fiction” and all
that is in-between. Students are encouraged to borrow books each week and return the following week. It is
an absolute delight when you hear our young students retelling the story to their teacher. Reading is an ad-
venture. As Jamie Ford said ‘The library is like a candy store where everything is free.”
Library News….
Business…
Students continue to be busy in their business studies untit. This week they are preparing for our Teacher
Café, with soups and damper on offer. Their assessment task this term involves an investigation into differ-
ent types of businesses in the Australian Market. They have been asked to conduct an inquiry about the
costs and benefits of different types of businesses. Regular meetings will be undertaken to decide on our
Café Menu and to allow students to learn how to conduct a meeting.
