Term 3 Week 4, 13th August 2020

Principal’s Report - Richard Ford

Where has this term gone already! We are almost midway through the term.

I just wanted to say thank you for the cooperation of everyone through this uncertain

time. The pick-ups in the afternoon have been going smoothly and most students know

which gate they are leaving from. We still have a few students coming in after the bell.

There is only a teacher on the front gate until 9.05am. After that the gates will be getting

locked and students will need to enter through the top electronic gate.

At the moment the advice has remained the same and we are continuing with the

restrictions we have been dealing with for some time. Hand washing and sanitising are

embedded routines in our students’ lives now and it is great to see most of the students

following these routines every time they leave and come back to the classroom. The

cleaners employed by the department of education are non-stop cleaning throughout

the day.

As cases arise in areas around NSW we know that there is a plan in place for letting

families know if a student tests positive. Parents will receive a phone call if a child is

considered to be in close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID. If a

student is not deemed to have been in close contact with someone at the school with

COVID they will receive a letter asking them to watch for symptoms in their child. We

have been very fortunate not to have a case in Doonside for a long time.

Students are allowed to wear masks to school if parents wish their child to. It is the

responsibility of the student to look after

their own mask.

A friendly reminder for our Year 6 students

going to Doonside Technology High School

in 2021, make sure you have completed

your enrolment application and have it

returned to the High School.

We say farewell to our chickens after 2

weeks of spreading joy into our lives. The

students saw the chickens hatch, grow and

start to get feathers. It was the basis for

writing, science and maths lessons and the

students did a great job.

Online enrolments now open..

We are excited to announce we are now taking Online

Enrolments.

The new Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility

for our parents to submit an enrolment application online and at

the time that best suits you.

The online application process is currently restricted to:

Enrolments of In Area local students only,

Students who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or

permanent residents who live in NSW.

How to start an Online Enrolment:

Visit our School website at www.crawford-p.schools.nsw.edu.au

Go to the ‘About our school’ tab,

Go to the ‘Enrolments’ tab,

Click on the ‘Apply for enrolment online’ link.

The school interface will appear, get started by entering the

‘Students residential address’, click Search.

By verifying your residential address this will determine if you are

in or out of the Crawford Public School Intake Area.

Inside the CPS intake area - proceed by clicking on ‘Apply to

Enrol’.

Outside the CPS intake area - warning CPS is not your local

school, you can proceed by clicking ‘Proceed’, you will then be

shown your local school where you can apply online for local

enrolment, alternatively you can contact our office in regards to

an Out of Area application.

We encourage you to complete your application to enrol online,

however if you do not feel comfortable completing an application

online, a paper copy is also available, just call our school office

and we would be happy to bring you a copy to the school gate

or send it to you via the post or send it home with a sibling at CPS.

External Validation

For that last few months teachers have been

going through a school process called

external validation. External validation is

when schools collect evidence of what they

are doing to make judgements on what they

are doing well and what might need to be

improved. Then external staff from the school

come in and look at the evidence and see if

they think the same as our judgements. It has

been an amazing experience going through

all the wonderful things that happen at

Crawford and how much time our teachers

invest in our kids. From the photo you can see

that the evidence we have, fills up a whole

room.

Our School Procedures

If you need to drop off lunch or collect your child during school time for an appointment,

please call in advance to the school office to advise what time you will be arriving at

either the Front (Power Street) or Back (Asche Street) gate. Our office staff will meet you

at the gate.

The Department of Education and NSW Health are encouraging students who are feeling

unwell to seek medical advice from a doctor.

If you are required to do a COVID-19 test we need to know.

Please give the school office a call and advise the

following details:

Where the COVID-19 test was taken?

What time the COVID-19 test was taken?

When you received the results?

How you received the results?

Why you got a COVID-19 test?

All students should be at school unless they have a

medical certificate which states that they are

unable to return to school due to an ongoing

medical condition and the expected timeframe or

they are currently unwell.

Stage 3 News

We have had a busy few weeks in Stage 3. Year 5 have started work on a dancing

program where they are choreographing dances in groups to music of different eras.

They have really been enjoying themselves and doing a great job. Year 6 have also

started dancing in preparation for their farewell. They were all a bit nervous at first but by

the end of the first session pretty much everyone said it was a lot of fun which was great

to hear. Year 6 have also had two transition sessions at Doonside Technology High School

and have been commended by the High School staff for their respectful manners and

attitudes which has made us all very proud.

We have been holding Peer Support this Term and everyone is having a great time. Our

leaders are getting their confidence when working with their groups and all of the

feedback from the students has been that the activities have been a lot of fun. We have

been focussing on inclusiveness and respect during these activities. Please make sure

you check out the school Facebook page for pictures and some videos we are sharing

of all of the fun. All of our groups are students from nearly every grade and it has been so

nice to see everyone interacting so well with each other.

Just a few quick reminders…….it would be so nice to see everyone in uniform. We still

have a few random colour jumpers

and we understand it is still a bit cold

and towards the end of winter, but if

we can have everyone in school

colours that would be appreciated.

If your child is in Year 6 and is

attending Doonside Technology High

next year, please make sure you

have booked in your appointment to

meet with the High School staff. This is

important to help them form the

classes and get to know you and

your children to offer the best start to

the new year as they can. If you

have any questions please contact

the High School or ask your child’s

teacher.

Finally we have a very busy end to

Term 3 with our dancing and Pedlars

Day for Year 6 to organise in the last

week of Term. Looking forward to it!

Step into Stage One!!

Students in Stage One have done a wonderful job in getting right back into

their learning this term. Every time I visit a classroom I am so excited to see

students eager to share their learning and classwork with me. They should

all be very proud of their accomplishments.

This term our students have enjoyed participating in Peer Support, which is

being run by our Stage Three students on a Friday. It has been great to see

students forming friendships with their new buddies.

This fortnight in Mathematics our students are learning addition and

subtraction strategies and are trying to work out the most efficient way to

solve a number problem.

Who can answer this problem: Miss Allen had $14 to spend but she only

spent $8. How much money does Miss Allen have left?

(The first one to tell Miss Allen the answer can claim a prize)

Have a wonderful fortnight filled with learning and adventure!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher

or Miss Allen.

Dream, Believe, Succeed, Achieve!
