Variety Bash Qld are coming through Bauhinia on Friday 30th August 2019 and have asked the Bauhinia P&C to cater for their lunch stop of approximately 300-350 people. We are looking for volunteers to organise this event and volunteers to help out on the day. Unfortunately the dates do clash with the ICPA Sports camp for the years 4-6 students and we understand some parents won’t be available to help.

Also, if anyone has some great ideas to fundraise on this day, please let us know. These days are always loads of fun with lots of great characters who love to raise money for a great cause, whilst helping out small communities along the way.

HOT DOG AND ICE CREAM DAY

Thank you to Chrissy Scaffe for her time , helping out

with the hotdogs and ice-creams on Thursday 21st March. Also donating a water melon

from Minnies’ garden for the students to have for ‘fruit break’. The Students enjoyed their

treat and appreciated the thought. Looking forward to more in the future.

Bauhinia State School P&C Pie Drive 2019 is back!

We are raising funds for the Bauhinia SS P&C with our annual Pie drive Fundraiser. We ask that all orders and money be

returned to Monique or the school office no later than 3.00 pm Tuesday, 18th June, 2019. You will be able to collect

your order on Thursday, 27th June, 2019 from the Bauhinia Hall between 12 - 1 pm. Order forms in the next page,

however, if you require anymore order forms please email Monique on [email protected].

Fundraising activities such as this make a vital contribution towards improving resources for the benefit of our chil-

dren. In anticipation of a successful fundraising drive, we thank you for your support.

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday. We are in the busiest term. According to the news, the flu season had arrived much earlier this year. Please look after yourself. I will be having a flu vaccination in a couple of weeks. I hope I will be flu free again.

Congratulations to the following students for 100% attendance in Japanese class in Term One!

Marleigh and Vanessa from Builyan SS Tiahna from Clarke Creek SS Dustin from Gogango SS Hayden from Isisford SS Ty from Lochington SS Lily from Nagoorin SS Bonnie, Jake and Katelyn from Marlborough SS Jane from Westwood SS Lexi, Amber, Penny, Charlotte, Marissa, Jackson and Britny from Bauhinia SS Jayda, Lacey, Katelyn, Charlie, Matilda and Indianna from Mount Perry SS Dusty, Cooper, Darcy, James, Thomas, Darcy, Scott, Liam and Beau from Rolleston SS I hope to see more students having 100% attendance in Term Two. Please remember every lesson counts!

Term Two

Rolleston Yr5, Mount Perry Yr5, Clarke Creek, Lochington, Westwood, Bauhinia Yr5 and 6, Builyan and Nagoorin

Most students are feeling confident when they introduce themselves in Japanese. This term, we must focus on our listening skills. The students need to look for key words and phrases to understand the person’s family name, given name, other names such as nickname, age, etc. The students will have their listening and speaking exams in May. RollestonYr6, Mount PerryYr6 and Marlborough Yr5 and 6 Marlborough students are working on the most difficult sentence using a preposition in the writing task. Good luck! Congratulations to Rolleston and Mount Perry students for completing their writing task. They are now learning borrowed words so they can identify if they have used borrowed words in their work.

Gogango Yr5 and 6 The students finished playing the sample games last term. This term, they will create instructions for their own board games.

Bauhinia Yr3 and 4 and Isisford Yr3 and 4 Isisford students are now practising how to create their own speeches using learned sentence structures. Bauhinia students are going to learn a couple more adjectives so that they can describe their rooms in their speeches.

Bauhinia Yr1 and 2

Most students are now confident in saying their family members in Japanese when I ask, “Who is it?”

Wonderful Teacher Aides Lastly and very importantly, I would like to acknowledge the wonderful Teacher Aides. Their support is vital. Without them, I cannot run my lessons smoothly. I have fantastic Teacher Aides who are willing to learn Japanese with their students and encourage them to be on task and have a go. I truly appreciate their involvement. Should you have any enquiries about your child’s progress please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] and 49993333 at Crescent Lagoon State School.

Yours in language, Kanako Iwakura eLearning Japanese Teacher

Q Fever Reminder Q fever is a bacterial infection acquired most commonly from cattle, sheep and goats. It is mainly spread by inhalation of small bacteria particles from infected animal body fluids, either directly or attached to dust particles. Whilst the bacteria can be present in a range of environments, “Q fever risk environments” are the working and learning environments where humans interact with animals known to be a source of infection for Q fever e.g. stock yards of an agriculture program. The fact sheet provides information about managing risks: https://education.qld.gov.au/initiativesstrategies/Documents/factsheet-q-fever.pdf

Autism Awareness

This is a good opportunity to familiarise ourselves about Autism.

I am privileged to work in a community where people are accepting of each other. At our schools, we celebrate and embrace differ-

ences. Our staff model acceptance for our students and it has becomes a seamless practice.

Below is a link to a Youtube clip of ‘Meet the Trummies’, showing how autism can affect people differently.
