Cundletown Public School Tuesday 24th March 2020 Term 1 Week 9

We are living through a difficult time in our history as a community at present and this is set to continue for a while

longer and there will be some changes to our usual school routines. The latest update for schools was via a livestreamed

meeting hosted by Mark Scott Secretary, Department of Education yesterday afternoon regarding the COVID -19 and

procedures for all Public Schools. Information from this meeting was communicated by a note sent home yesterday

which directs all Public Schools to be operational until Easter. If you have any questions regarding the new school routine

or attendance procedures for this term please contact our school. We will have curriculum aligned school work and links

for online learning. This week we have prepared work if required for students to complete. Those students who do not

have internet facilities at home, parents may wish to contact the school for alternate school work resources and delivery.

As you may be aware a number of our local PSSA sporting events have been postponed. A further postponement now

includes the Taree eisteddfod events until further notice.

The Cundletown PS P&C AGM was held last week and the 2020 executive elected. At the meeting I proposed a trial

commencing next term of altering the recess and lunch break timing during the day. The school start time will remain the

same, a long break will occur in the morning at 11:25am until 12:15. We will have a supervised lunch eating time

(15mins) included in the first half of lunch (totalling 25mins) and second half of lunch time play (totalling 25mins).

The short break will then be in the afternoon at 1:45-2:10pm (25 mins). The school finish time will still be at 3:30pm. The

class teaching time remains the same as do the break times. The change is the timing of the long break which will be first

and a short break later in the day. We will trial this commencing in term 2. The canteen will do lunches to be ready at

11:25am and recess at 1:45pm. The Flexi School ordering time currently closes at 9:45am this will be reset to 9:35am

close, as the canteen will need time to prepare food. Apart from the sun safety advantage we are finding that some

students are eating their lunch food at 9 am. So having a longer morning break will hopefully sustain them a little longer

each day and have a greater focus in the classroom and in the summer less time in the afternoon heat.

Our carpark will be completed next week with some drier weather. The department have offered a new higher fence for

the front section of our school. With this new fence the intention will be to continue extending the fence in sections

around our school into the future as the numbers of unauthorised visitors after schools hours and the damage has been

an ongoing issues over some years and unfortunately not decreasing.
