August 2, 2015
Good morning my brothers
and sisters,
As we gather today, to cele-brate the 53rd Anniversary
of our Independence, and
having attained our Emancipation 176 years ago, we
need to reflect on our past and where we are today, and to contemplate where we hope to be as a Com-
munity and a Nation. Could we use this celebration
as the starting point of a new endeavour, to make ourselves ‘free’ from those things that stultify our
growth; such as corruption, violence and immorality.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Proud and
Free-Jamaica 53.” Could we not make ourselves ‘free’ from the evils of our day, because we are a
‘proud’ people, and with a positive outlook, working
together as a Nation with a 2030 vision of which we all hope to be a part of. I really believe that we can be
a better people if we put our minds, hands and hearts
to it. Moses, led by God, was able to engage his people
into a time and place of freedom, and moulded them
to become “a people of vision and purpose”, so that
they could be a part of the “Promised Land.” Guided by God, we can be that country with a hope
where we can live, work, raise families, do business,
and worship without fear.” Lets do it.
Yours in Christ
Fr. Barry
