Summer Education CampsKids On Campus! Teens On Campus!

Temple Ambler has been offering summer education camps for 25 years at our convenient suburban campus. Camps are available for kids, tweens, and teens between the ages of 8 and 17, during the months of June, July and August. Most camps are one-week, full-day camps that run Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., although some shorter camp sessions are also available.

NEW!Airplanes, Bridges and Gadgets…Oh My! (Ages 8 to 12)

Learn simple engineering skills through fun, hands-on activities. Build your own rubber band powered model airplane that actually flies and use your model as a learning tool in aerospace education. Have fun designing and building model bridges. We’ll have a contest to see whose bridge can hold the most weight. Finally, dis-cover how different electronic components work. Babysitting Training Camp (Ages 11 to 15)

Like every other important job, babysitting takes skill and hard work. In this American Red Cross Babysitter’s Train-ing camp, boys and girls learn all of the ins and outs of being successful babysitters. Camp instructors cover all of the tricks of the trade, including safety and security, first aid basics, child development, child care, age-appropriate play and activity planning, and effective child management. Participate in exciting forensic investigations using labora-tory techniques common in the forensics industry. You will work in biology and chemistry laboratories as well as take part in discussions led by forensic specialists. Topics include drug analysis, blood and DNA analy-sis, hair analysis, and ballistics. SeaPerch Robots (Ages 10 to 14)

2-week camp session

SeaPerch is an innovative under-water robotics program. Working in groups, you will build an un-derwater Remotely Operated Ve-hicle (ROV) while learning about robotics, engineering, science and mathematics (STEM). Build-ing a SeaPerch ROV teaches the basics of ship and submarine design and encourages students to explore naval architecture and marine and ocean engineer-ing. Teams will test their robots, competing in multiple challenges in the campus pool (campers do not need to get in the pool; no swimming abilities are required). Get a head start on preparing for the school year and have fun at the same time. By using games as a learning technique, campers will spend the morning improving basic read ing com-prehension and spelling skills. In the afternoon, there will be games that focus on math skills. Use board games, active play and computer games to keep your math skills sharp. Debate for Teens: The Art of Arguing (Ages 13 to 17)

Do you want to learn how to bet-ter express your oral thoughts and ideas? This camp will explore arguing in a civilized way. Students will learn how to research and create a well-thought-out argument. You will also learn how to be persuasive when orally presenting the in-formation. Debate topics can be picked on a wide scale and the debate process will be taught and executed within the camp. Prerequisite: Campers should have a documented diagnosis of stuttering from a speech-language pathologist. Please contact Kim Sabourin at 215-310-8033 prior to registration to determine if your child is appropriate for enrollment. This camp will provide young people who stutter with a sup-portive environment where they can develop their own goals about speaking and stutter-ing. Therapeutic activities will help participants learn about

the phenomenon of stuttering; develop their own plan for prac-tice; develop strategies to man-age the social and emotional challenges; and learn how to communicate to their parents about stuttering. NEWI Survived (ages 8 to 12)

Do you have the ability to think quickly on your feet? Can you stay calm in a scary and stress-ful situation? From the disaster at Pompeii in AD 79, the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912, the Great Molasses Flood of 1919, to the Japanese Tsunami of 2011 real people faced impending doom and somehow survived. This camp will investigate a series of both man-made and natural disasters throughout history from the perspective of the popular Lauren Tarshis book series I Survived. We will examine the background of how and why these disasters occurred and what skills it took for people to survive them. We will also explore local disasters specific to Pennsylvania. 3D Sculpture and Jewelry Class (Ages 8 to 12)

Everyone has their own style. Here’s your chance to put your style and creativity on display! What’s the Problem? (Ages 8 to 12)

Learn to solve various problems using your creativity. Working in teams, campers will be given a task and specific items, but lim-ited time to complete the task. Learn how to com municate with each other by sharing ideas on the creation of a finished project. Activities include building a tower to retain a tennis ball and creating a safe car for your crash dummy.
