The BBB of Southern Colorado Foundation will be awarding three $2,500 scholarships to three high school seniors who:

� Will graduate high school in 2014 � Will start college in the fall of 2014 � Best meets our criteria:

� Must live in one of the counties covered by the BBB of SC*

� Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher If you would like to recommend or know of students that may be interested, please have them complete the enclosed form and attach:

� A resume to include school activities, community activities, hobbies and interests, and

employment or volunteer experiences � Completed Application Form � Signed Media Release � An essay responding to the ethical scenario included

� Must be 1,000 or less words � Must be typed and double spaced � Must directly answer questions that are listed at the end of the scenario

� A letter of recommendation from a counselor, teacher or principal of your high school � Confirmation of 3.0 or higher GPA (transcript or report card)

All applications must be in the office of the BBB of SC by May 23, 2014. The winners will be notified on June 27, 2014, and must show proof of college enrollment. Scholarship disbursement monies will be issued directly to the school. Recipients will be honored at the BBB’s “A Night of Excellence” award gala, Thursday, October 02, 2014. The recipients and/or a family member event attendance is highly encouraged. Submissions will be judged by Trustees of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado Foundation. The Scenario All students in your school district must do at least 60 hours of Community Service as part of their graduation requirement. As of April 1st of your senior year, you only have 30 hours completed. You have volunteered at an animal shelter for the last two years and have really enjoyed it. However, between schoolwork, sports and a job, you just haven’t had time to think about community service this year. You realize that you have to hustle to get those additional 30 hours of Community Service completed by graduation. The time sheets you turn in for Community Service are based on the honor system and the assumption of honest. What would you do in this scenario? Before answering, please incorporate the Essay Questions below into your final essay. Instructions

Please compose an essay in 1,000 words or less that addresses each of the below questions. Essay Questions:

� What next steps might be appropriate at this point? How do ethics play a part in this scenario?

� What decision points in the scenario would you consider changing? Why?

� Share an example of a similar situation that you witnessed and discuss how a resolution was achieved.

Judges will be looking for essays that describe:

� The role of ethics in the above fictional scenario

� Ethical issues in the student’s life
