TECHNOLOGY LESSON PLAN PICTURE THIS NUMBER GRADE LEVEL: K-2

OBJECTIVE: Students will match numbers with pictures of objects representing each number.

MATERIALS: Internet Access and/or Digital Camera(s), Computers, Computer paper or Cardstock, Presentation Software

INSTRUCTIONS:

Prior to the Computer

1. Explain to students that they will take pictures of objects using a digital camera.(For example, a pair of shoes, 5 crayons)

2. The objects must represent the numbers 1-10(add more numbers for older students). (For example, a pair of shoes, 5 crayons, a dozen eggs)

3. Upload the files to a folder that students can access.

4. Direct student on how to layout their project or create a template for younger students.

At the computer

1. Open Microsoft Word or Power Point. Instruct students on how to open a file and insert a picture.

2. Have students type the number the picture represents and size it.

3. Have them write the type the name of the object.

4. Save then print to create a picture book of numbers.

After the Computer

1. Have students present their picture books to their classmates.

2. Post to you school website page.

TECHNOLOGY LESSON PLAN SHAPES AND SOLIDS GRADE LEVEL: K-4

OBJECTIVE: Identify two-dimensional and three dimensional geometric shapes

MATERIALS: Internet Access and/or Digital Camera, Computers, Computer Paper or Cardstock, Presentation Software

INSTRUCTIONS

Prior to the Computer

1. Review with students the basic two and three dimensional shapes, being sure to emphasize the unique characteristics of each one. Be sure to use everyday objects and manipulatives to illustrate your point.

2. Ask students to identify whether the object is a circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, hexagon, octagon, oval, pentagon, cone, cubes, spheres and cylinders. Have them write down the characteristics of the shapes.

3. Ask the students for everyday examples of all of these objects.

4. Students should locate or take pictures of shapes and solids such as spheres, rectangles, squares and pyramids. They

may bring examples from home if this is necessary.

5. Make sure students save the pictures to the appropriate file.

At the Computer

1. Create an electronic presentation using Power Point or Photo Story. Direct students to create slides of each shape following the shape handout form.

2. Direct students to import/insert photos of each shape onto slides.

3. Direct students to write a description of the shapes in their own words with the photos. (Younger students may write in the words after the pages are printed.)

4. Print the slides out to create a book, use the handout feature for multiple slides on each page.

After the Computer

1. Have students present their slideshows or picture books to the class.

2. Post the students work to you school website to show parents what your students have been working on.

TECHNOLOGY LESSON PLAN BOOKS ABOUND! GRADE LEVEL: 2-4

OBJECTIVE: Students will identify the main character in the story and represent the idea with graphics.

MATERIALS: Internet Access and/or Digital Camera, Computers, Computer Paper or Cardstock, Word Processing or Presentation Software, Glogster, Scholastic (Share What Your Reading), Read Write Think Book Creator

Essential Question or Problem: the publisher of this book would like to produce an advertisement for the story and wants to include graphics that illustrate the main character. The advertisement has space for three graphics. You or your team must locate at least 3 images and develop an introduction and a short book synopsis.

INSTRUCTIONS

Prior to the Computer

1. Make sure students are familiar with word processing programs such as Microsoft Word or Power Point programs.

2. Briefly sketch or show the students an example of a book advertisement.

3. Students should have read the novel and completed a character analysis of the book.

4. Direct students to create their advertisement on paper before working on the computer.

At the Computer

1. Students should locate images related to the book and insert them into the page. Or save them for later use.

2. Direct students to create an introduction about the book using Microsoft word 11X18 template. Students should use their character analysis to create a short synopsis.

3. Encourage students to use background color, font and to create a dynamic book report.

4. Supplementary Ideas: a. Use Glogster and add audio,

links and video to your book review.

b. Scholastic Book Review can be used after the students finish the project. Students can enter the book title, Author’s Name, genre, an interesting thing about the book. Explain why you liked or didn’t like the book. Students are asked to give the grade, state and last initial.

c. Younger students can use the ReadWriteThink Book Creator to create a cover for your book.

d. Challenge students to create a podcast or vodcast using Audacity and a Video Camera.

After the Computer

1. Have students present their information to the class.

2. Post to the school website.

APPLICATION: SMILEBOX is a free software similar to Photo Story but with so much more to offer!

Smilebox could be used for a variety of applications. Students could combine photos, videos, and music into one

amazing multimedia presentation. There are over 700 design templates to choose from. Smile Box is easy to use, you can insert photos and videos, create scrapbooks and photo albums with ease, You can print out your creations (with paid version), Easy upload to websites (including your blog), Hundreds of designs to choose from, FREE for basic use--inexpensive to upgrade if needed. Smilebox can be download software to computer and work on project offline, with downloaded software, students can save their projects to their own folders, Can use any digital images that have been saved to your computer such as those from Creative Commons, etc.

Smilebox has a few disadvantages such as a lag in upload of pictures, some features are not free, pictures need to

be scanned or taken with a digital camera and teachers must log on using the teacher’s account.

CLASSROOM INTEGRATION: Smilebox can be used a variety of ways in the classroom. Students can create a variety of projects such as digital

storytelling combining pictures, podcasts, and video.

• Create a weekly newspaper or newsletter about the happenings in your classroom or create a

memory book for each student for the end of the year, etc. • Create photo albums of class field trips and biographies of important historical figures. • Instead of the boring book report of power point, create a multimedia show. For example, create

a multimedia rich postcard of China, instead of writing a report! The possibilities are endless. • Create a character scrapbook of your favorite book. • Use digital photography to demonstrate a math concept.

Create A Multimedia Poster Online

APPLICATION: What is Glogster Edu? Glogster Edu provides educators with a creative and dynamic, and innovative digital outlet for capturing learner’s excitement for online creations, keeps learners engaged in course content, and makes teaching and learning more fun. Glogster Edu is a private and safe program and is monitored by teachers. Teachers have full control of all their students’ activities. Glogster Edu can be use to integrate a variety of subjects including math, science, history, art, photography, music and more. Use a Glog as a way to differentiate instruction and as a form of alternative assessment. –Glogster Edu

Glogster is a free tool! No registration is required for your free virtual classroom. Each student can have their own Glog. There will be a premium feature in the near future! Teachers and students can easily upload text, video clips, audio files and images. The editor makes it easy to change colors, effects, zoom and delete items. Video can be uploaded from School Tube and Teacher tube for use in a Glog. Glogs can be saved and published. Glogsters’ privacy settings allow students to share their work or keep it private. Search for Glogs by category and comment on them.

CLASSROOM INTEGRATION

Glogster allows students to create multimedia posters on a variety of subjects.

• For example, students could research an important figure in history like President John F. Kennedy and add pictures, and audio and video of his speech.

• Famous composer poster could be created with a music clip of the musician’s composition (think Beethoven).

• Science experiments and projects could be shared in a step by step method using Glogster.

• Posters of student work could be presented at an art show or music concert. • Create a poster summarizing key content for a unit of study.

APPLICATION: TOONDOO is a easy to use comic strip creator has free membership. Teachers can upload images to ToonDoo for a special project. The site contains a safe search filter that will edit out any toons that have been flagged as inappropriate by users. Toons can be kept private if the teacher prefer or they can select whom to share it with.

Comic strips are created with 1 to 3 frames or with comic books for longer projects. The ToonDoo blog offers a Word of the Day where students can learn new vocabulary words. Students who do not think of themselves as artists will enjoy this web tool.

CLASSROOM INTEGRATION: TooDoo can be sued in a variety of ways. It is a great reflection tool, but also serves as a way to let student create their own understanding of a concept.

APPLICATION: This application can perform many functions in the classroom . The background images appeal to younger students. Kerpoof allows students to create a movie, doodle or draw a comic strip. The Make A Picture feature is very similar to KidPix. In the make a movie activity student create animated movies. It is very easy to use just visit www.kerpoof.com for more information on that. Students can access it from home. The program also shows students how to sequence stories as they work independently. Teachers will need to model how to use the tool with students.
