• On vacation, your first inclination may be to unplug. But some tech accessories can make your travels even more enjoyable.

• There is now an abundance of software available that tips the balance in the favour of travellers who are armed with just a smartphone, tablet or netbook – and the touts know it.

• With a whole lot of travelling ahead, there are countless opportunities to use tech to make your life a little bit better.

Accommodation booking sites• Prices can be troublingly vague when you're

abroad without a room for the night.

• Regardless of if you're booking in advance or last minute, accommodation booking sites offer transparency on what's available, where it is and how the prices compare.

Traveller-based review sites• Spanning both accommodation and activities,

traveller-based review sites are a great source of blunt, recent knowledge.

• Leveraging the opinions of many, you can get average scores for key attributes and a general feel for the kind of experiences people like you and I have with these operators.

• These review platforms have also crept successfully into accommodation booking sites, keeping you better informed at the point of sale.

GPS• Unfortunately, one of the most common

situations in which travellers get conned--many will be relying on a taxi driver for that initial step into familiarisation.

• GPS is your digital life vest here. I've found showing the driver that you have GPS by confirming your destination with it in hand lets them know you're keeping an eye on things.

Blogs and community forums• Active and engaged travellers have a wealth of

knowledge that often finds its way online in the form of blogs and community forums.

• Being able to ask any travel question to a large pool of like-minded people is as simple as signing into a community forum.

• In a couple of days, there's a good chance you'll have responses from people who have recent experience of your prospective travel plans.

Social Media• Social media will continue building the travel

landscape and experience, too.

• As smartphones and other connected devices become ever more ubiquitous, more and more travellers will tag photos, share reviews and otherwise document the experience of their trips.

Accessories• Travel gets better every year thanks to

technological advancements on planes, at airports and in your day to day life.

• Smartphone cameras get better with each iteration, in-flight Wi-Fi is becoming a standard on flights around the world and hell, you can even check into your hotel room and unlock the door with your phone!

• Tell that to someone born in the 30’s and you’ll see their brain explode right in front of you.

Portable battery:• Portable power banks are a lifesaver & are one

of the best phone accessories in which you can invest.

• If you’re a traveller and have had your phone battery die amidst a great adventure, you know the struggle.

• After a few hours of emailing, picture taking, and navigating, your phone’s battery plummets into single digit territory with no outlet in sight. Luckily, you can now power your phone from your pocket.

Headphones:• On flights, buses, boat trips and even chilling

by the pool. We use these all the time!

SD Card + SD card adapter:• There is nothing worse than going to free up

some memory on your camera/phone’s SD card and not having an SD card adapter.

• In regards to SD card size, either go for two 64 GB’s or a big 128 GB. The advantage of having two is not having to switch between each device. Also, some devices only support up to 64 GB!

USB Flash Drive:• A USB flash drive (also known as a thumb drive)

can come in handy on any number of occasions while travelling, such as sharing a document with the hotel front desk so they can print it for you or access a photo of your passport if it's lost or stolen.
