Zika & Mosquitoes: With Zika now a threat to our region, it's critical thatmeasures be taken to protect our families. When the temperature begins to riseabove 70 degrees, mosquitos carrying West Nile and potentially Zika will beginemerging and the following precautions should be taken:

Remove standing water from your property as it is a breeding ground formosquitos. Standing water can be found in gutters, old tires, garbagecans, and poor drainage areas.Trim trees and shrubs to improve air circulation on your property, whichwill physically push mosquitos out of an area and remove the environmentthey thrive in.If you're comfortable applying repellents with active chemicals on yourbody or feel natural remedies don't work, you should implement a largerdefense against mosquitoes like a property treatment program thatprevents and controls them. We generally recommend these programsfrom April to October.

Pruning: Spring is the perfect time of year to prune dead, damaged, ordiseased branches, and you can do so easily without the tree's foliageobstructing your view. This ensures they will be healthy and beautiful for thesummer months and years to come.

Tree & Shrub Pests: Many insects become active in early spring, so it'simportant to have a certified arborist inspect your trees and shrubs for any pestactivity early in the season.

Plant Health Care: Fertilize trees and shrubs as part of your yearlyregiment. If it's a dry spring, make sure to water your trees and shrubsthoroughly. Hydration is critical during leaf and shoot development.

Winter Assessment & Recovery: Trees can suffer extensive damageduring a bad winter season and can become hazardous as a result. They canalso become unhealthy due to severe weather conditions, especially prolongedfreezing, flooding, or drought. Spring is a good time to inspect trees forstructural hazards when they are still bare of foliage.

Tree Health Diagnosis: Spring and summer give us the best opportunities to identify tree healthproblems. Diagnosis of the actual cause of the tree malady is a tricky businessbest left to an expert. As with human illness, prompt detection and treatmentcan be critical. If you are unsure whether your tree is healthy or can withstandthe next storm, consult our professional arborists who can identify and removehazards as well as treat tree health problems.
