Slab-Style Gates
CAMERON slab-style gates are one-piece, solid gatesthat consistently deliver outstanding sealing perform-ance throughout a wide range of conditions, bore sizes, and working pressures, including corrosive and abrasivefluid environments. Slab-style gates are used in theCAMERON FL, FLS and FLS-R Gate Valves for bothmanual and actuated applications. These valves meetor exceed the requirements of API Specifications 6A,6A SSV/USV*, 17D, ISO 10423 and ISO 13628-4.
The slab-style gate design effects a metal-to-metalseal on the flow stream, and its simple, straightforwarddesign makes it easy to maintain and ideal for both lowand high-pressure sealing situations where particulatematter could pose a sediment problem. Slab gates mayalso be used when wireline cutting is a requirement.
Available Actuators
CAMERON FL and FLS Gate Valves with slab-style gatesare compatible with the following actuators from theCAMERON Saf-T-Gard actuator line:
MA Pneumatic Diaphragm Actuator MP Pneumatic Piston Actuator MH Hydraulic Actuator MWHP Hydraulic Wireline Cutting Actuator MSV Hydraulic Actuator MWSV Wireline Cutting Actuator

Expanding-Style Gates
Recognized worldwide as the Pow-R-Seal gatedesign, expanding-style gates are used in CAMERON MGate Valves. This popular gate design is used in manualvalves to produce a high seating force against both theupstream and downstream seats simultaneously as thehandwheel is tightened. This force effects a tightmechanical seal that is unaffected by line pressure fluc-tuations or vibration. The expanding gate allows a posi-tive mechanical seal across both seats, both upstreamand downstream, with or without line pressure.
The gate assembly uses an angular gate face that iscollapsed during travel. When closed, a stop causes anyfurther downward travel to force the faces of the gateassembly outward to effect a positive line flow seal. When opened, a stop causes any further upward travelto force bottom faces to expand and seal against theseats to isolate flow from the valve body cavity.

Expanding gates provide a mechanical sealing methodthat ensures low pressure sealing. As the valve opens, upward travel of the loose gate segment is stopped bythe bonnet. As the main gate segment continuesupward, the two halves of the gate are forced apart bytheir tapered mating surfaces. When the valve is closed, downward travel of the loose gate segment is stoppedby the body. As the main gate segment continues down-ward, the two halves of the gate are again forced apartby their tapered mating surfaces.

FLS-R SealCAMERON FLS-R Gate Valves incorpo-rate dual spring-loaded lip seals asshown in this detail.
FLS-R Gate Valve
The Cameron FLS-R Gate Valve was designed for useas a manual valve in high-pressure, large bore applica-tions. This valve incorporates a lower balancing stemand unique ball screw mechanism for ease of operationin the field. The FLS-R is value-engineered for reliability, low torque, ease of operation and service. The FLS-Rhas many of the same features as the FLS includingthe gate and seat design.
Features and Benets
Bi-directional design provides flow directionversatility and increased service life.
Positive metal-to-metal sealing (gate-to-seatand seat-to-body).
Simple, reliable gate and seat design promotesease of field service and minimal spare partsinventory.
Two spring-loaded, pressure energized,non-elastomeric lip-seals between each seat andbody assist in low pressure sealing. They also pro-tect against intrusion of particle contaminantsinto the body cavity and seal areas.
Lower stem balances pressure thrust on upperstem to reduce operating torque, prevents bodycavity pressure build-up during operation, andprovides position indication.
Spring-loaded, pressure energized, non-elastomericstem seal covers full range of pressures, tempera-tures, and fluids.
Pressure-energized metal-to-metal bonnet seal. Either stem can be backseated to allow stemseal replacement with valve under pressure.
Grease injection fittings located on the down-stream side of the stem and the balancing stembackseat for safety.

At Cameron, a safe and healthy working environment
is more than a matter of policy. Its a matter of practice.
In addition to safety programs outlined in the HSE
Management System, each Cameron busi-

toward its own employees and work
practices. These include HSE site com-

employee HSE manuals, HSE compliance
audits, new employee orientation programs
and incident investigation policies.

porate citizen, and is committed to a work environment
that exists in harmony with the natural environment.

Cameron business units also develop and maintain a
number of effective environmental protection programs.
