Tidbits is over the moon this week as we get our space suits on to talk about all the

ins and outs, ups and downs, and everything in between the letters M O O N. So buckle

up, get your helmets on and prepare for lift off in 5…4…3…2…1…

X It’s been done many different ways, but Frank Sinatra holds the title for making it the most popular. “Fly Me To The Moon” was written by Bart Howard in 1954. Nat King Cole recorded a version of the song in 1961, and the 1962 “Fly Me To The Moon — Bossa Nova” instrumental version was the only version of the song to rise significantly on the charts. Frank Sinatra didn’t record a version of the song until 1964. Quincy Jones did the arrangement for this version of the song and changed the timing to give it a more swing feel. The song is played over the end credits of Clint Eastwood’s movie “Space Cowboys” released in 2000.X “Fly Me To The Moon” was also the title of a 2008 animated feature about three junior space exploring flies who stow away aboard the Apollo 11 mission inside the helmets of Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins. The film includes the voices of Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, Kelly Ripa and Buzz Aldrin. There is also a cameo by Aldrin at the end of the film after the credits.X The Honeymooners first debuted in 1955. Jackie Gleason famously portrayed Ralph Kramden in the series. But did you know his real name was Herbert Walton Gleason Jr.? Gleason made famous the catchphrase “Bang! Zoom!” and threatened to send his wife Alice “right to the moon!” The comedic shtick has been parodied by modern comedies, including “Family Guy.” Did you know there is a vintage clothing line in Roscoe, New York, called “Right To The Moon Alice”?X Buzz Aldrin is known for many things. He was the second man to walk on the moon, and he has dedicated his life to promoting space exploration. 2009 marked the 40th anniversary of the moon landing, and to commemorate the event, Aldrin teamed up with Snoop Dogg and Quincy Jones to make “The Rocket Experience,” his rap debut and single. Proceeds from

It never takes long for scammers to jump into new areas of fraud. Now, with health-care-reform legislation, they have a whole new way to try to get money out of the pockets of everyday people. Even if you already have Medicare, you’re still not safe from the scammers.

Here’s what they’ve been caught doing already:

• Selling fake policies door to door or on the phone.

• Selling “limited enrollment” policies. Those don’t exist.

• Selling fake medical discount cards.

• Sending fake e-mails and doing phony online ads, with toll-free numbers to call.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has sent letters to insurance commissioners and attorneys general in each state, plus Health Care Fraud Prevention & Enforcement Action Teams (HEAT), warning them of the problem. She’s also notified the Senior Medicare Patrol Project — senior volunteers who advise other seniors on how to detect fraud in Medicare. As an example, if you receive

medical goods you didn’t order, such as special equipment you don’t need — but that Medicare will probably have to pay for — the Patrol can help investigators get to the bottom of it.

But it’s up to us individually to make sure we don’t become a scam statistic.

If you already have Medicare, you’ll be notified by mail if there are any necessary changes. Call Medicare to double-check.

If you don’t have Medicare yet but get a call or mail saying you need to buy a special policy, call your own insurance company to ask if there are any changes you need to know about.

To keep up with the new health-care changes, you can read the reports at healthreform.gov. Put “seniors” in the search box and look for “America’s Seniors and Health Insurance Reform.”

Barking, Whining Annoy Dog OwnerBy Sam Mazzotta

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I need some strategies on some issues I’m having with my Bichon, “Sassy.” First, she wakes me up at the same time, 4:45 a.m., and whines for me to come play with her. I’ve tried putting her out of the room, tried the “shhhh” thing, but she’ll just keep whining. Also, if another dog is in the yard, she will bark and go crazy. I’ve tried distracting her, shaking coins in a can and using a spray bottle, to no avail. Can you help? — Maryann, via e-mail

DEAR MARYANN: These behaviors can be frustrating, especially since Sassy sounds like a strong-willed, independent dog. In the first case, Sassy is on a different sleep schedule than you, and wants to be up and playing early. All of my dogs have been “morning people” too, and I’m not, so I feel your pain.

Is anything that might be triggering her to wake up, like a coffee maker set to go off at 4:45? Look and listen for odd sounds at that time. You also might try to have Sassy sleep in the other room all night. If she’s used to sleeping with you, this will mean a few trying nights. Don’t scold or

shush her, and reward her with treats when she gets into her bed. Also, try adjusting her feeding, walking and play times, morning and night, and see if that makes any difference.

Barking at strange dogs is an instinctive thing Sassy does. She doesn’t respond to negative reinforcement (shaker cans, spray bottles), so try a positive approach. When Sassy starts to bark at a dog in the yard, say “Enough” in a calm but firm voice. When she stops barking and looks at you, give her a treat.

You’ll need to be patient and avoid giving commands in an angry voice or getting frustrated (which your pet can sense) and reverting to the old “shhh!” technique. Work calmly and consistently with Sassy on these issues.

Buzz Lightyear, from the animated classic “Toy Story,” was named for Aldrin. One more for the record books: Buzz was born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. but officially changed his name to Buzz in 1988. The moniker came from his older sister who pronounced the word brother as “buzzer.”X Does Mare Tranquillitatis mean anything to you? If you took a Latin class, you know that it means Sea of Tranquility. However, if you’re a space buff, you might know that it is the landing sight of the Apollo 11 lunar module. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took their famous steps in the Mare Tranquillitatis, making it a famous landmark in American history on July 20, 1969.X Can you see the Sea of Tranquility from earth? You sure can! The sea, if you hadn’t guessed, isn’t actually a sea but a maria, which is one of the many dark spots we see on the surface of earth’s moon. It’s location will look different depending on which portion of the world you’re in, so be sure to look it up in your local library or favorite search engine.X Rabbit or man? This depends where you’re from. Many Asian cultures believe the dark marias on the surface of the moon form the shape of a rabbit. There was a time in England when the shapes were believed to be an old witch carrying a bundle of sticks on her back. Some Muslim cultures believe the name of Muhammed’s son is written on the moon, as Ali would be there to reflect the teachings of Muhammed (the sun) after Muhammed was gone. There is even a part of South East India that believes the face of still-living guru Sathya Sai Baba can be seen in the maria. What do you see?

X Dr. Eugene Shoemaker was a well-known astronomer and astrogeologist in his lifetime. At one point, he was considered as a candidate for an Apollo lunar mission. He also co-discovered the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. However, Dr. Shoemaker is also notably the only human being whose mortal remains have been laid to rest on the moon. A capsule containing his ashes was sent to the moon aboard the Lunar Prospector on July 31, 1999.X Do you know what a wolf moon is? Or a harvest or ice moon? These names refer to specific full moons in the year. A wolf moon is a full moon that occurs during the month of January, whereas a harvest moon occurs during the month of September. These names originated with the Native American tribes of North America, who named the moons to keep track of the seasons. X In “More English Fairy Tales” by Joseph Jacobs, there is a tale called The Dead Moon (or The Buried Moon) about the moon. After hearing that monsters came out on nights when she didn’t shine, the moon came down to find out if this was true. She fell into a bog and was trapped. While struggling, her hood kept falling in front of her face, causing her light to flicker. A passing man saw the flashing light in the distance and it warned him of the bog and the monsters. Because she was trapped in a bog and not in the sky, the moon stopped rising for a long time. The people wondered what had happened to her. It was a wise woman who told the people where to find the buried moon, and at the wise woman’s advice, the people freed the moon.X Earth’s moon is the fifth largest moon in the solar system, but what’s the largest? That would be Ganymede, a satellite of Jupiter. Ganymede is named after a character in Greek mythology. He was a hero and a Trojan prince. Ganymede the moon was discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610, exactly 400 years ago this past January 10th. One more neat fact: Did you know

that the red giant has 63 confirmed moons in all?X What exactly is a blue moon? Every calendar year, there are approximately twelve full moons, but because the moon cycles every 28 days and doesn’t fit into our monthly pattern, every 2.7 years there is an extra, thirteenth full moon in the year — a blue moon. So, the saying “once in a blue moon” really does mean something that doesn’t happen very often as a blue moon only happens about every 2.7 years. The next blue moon will occur this year on November 21, 2010, but the next one won’t be until August 21, 2013.X It’s official! As of September 2009, water was discovered on the moon. But don’t rush to get your bathing suits for the first swimming pool on the moon; our satellite is still drier than any dessert on earth. However, it has been discovered that there are very small traces of water on the moon, and that is an advancement for the ages.

TALLADEGA, Ala. — For the second week in a row, Brad Keselowski competed in two races, one Sprint Cup and one

Nationwide Series, on the same day.He was far from the only one, but Keselowski won the Aaron’s 312 after finishing 34th in the Aaron’s 499. And he’s leading the Nationwide Series standings by a healthy margin.“There’s a quick adaptation period where you have to show a certain skill set that’s completely different,” said Keselowski. “It’s like in football, if you were taking a snap as a wide receiver and going over and taking one as running back. It makes it interesting, and that’s when you see who has the talent to do that and the mental strength to try.”Talladega Superspeedway is a track that often eliminates cars and drivers by something close to random selection. Ryan Newman suggested that its races shouldn’t count in the point standings. Dale Earnhardt Jr. referred to it as “a lottery.”But Keselowski owes a lot to the perilous Alabama

10 SCAMS YOu NEED TO KNOW AbOuT

When you read lists of the latest scams, they’re all different. There are some scams, however, that seem to make all the current lists. Here are the ones to beware of at this point, in no particular order.1. Help for Haiti Websites: Still a hot topic, the FBI told CNN it is “suspicious” of most of the 4,600 sites seeking donations for Haiti earthquake victims.2. Home Repair: Spring is here, and so are the guys with a truck full of tools or asphalt, ready to take your money in advance.3. Weddings: Beware “free” tickets to bridal shows; dresses with fake labels; planners, photographers and caterers who take your money and run. 4. The Census: You may be contacted in person, by e-mail or by phone by people looking for your personal banking information and demanding that you’re obligated to give it. You’re not.5. Toyota “Recall”: These scams involve a toll-free number that is very similar to the real Toyota number. When you call the fake number, you’ll be charged $5.96 and will be asked for information such as your Social Security number. 6. Work at Home: You’ll get information that tells you how to find the jobs, not the actual jobs.7. Windows 7 Updates: You could lose money when you pay for fake software update codes, or postage for free updates. 8. Canada Lottery — Soccer World Cup: You’ll be invited to send money to be in the promotional lottery. Worse, you’ll be told you’ve already won and just have to send in some fees.9. Mystery Shoppers: You could be charged for a guide and a kit showing how to find the jobs, or they’ll ask for your banking information so they can automatically deposit your pay.10. Stranded Pets: Your heartstrings will be tugged, and you could end up paying for adoption fees, vaccinations, customs fees and more…but your pet never arrives.To keep up with scams, take a look at the Scams website message board at www.scam.com. You don’t have to log in to read the messages. Also, Consumer Affairs at consumeraffairs.com is an informal site that appears to keep up with the latest scams as well as recalls.Rule of thumb: Be suspicious when it comes to your money or information.

DEAR DR. DONOHuE: What is the amount of exercise recommended for a man or woman of 55? I was always under the impression that 15 minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week was a sufficient amount of time for heart health. Am I wrong? — R.K.ANSWER: That used to be the recommended amount of exercise time for an adult. For readers, aerobic exercise is the kind of exercise that is tailored for the heart. It’s exercise that employs the continuous use of large muscles for a somewhat protracted period of time, at least 10 minutes. Jogging, biking, walking, swimming and dancing are examples of aerobic exercise.The latest advice for adults, if their doctors say they are fit enough to exercise, is to get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise a week. That’s 20 minutes of exercise seven days a week or 50 minutes, three times a week. You can divide it any way you wish, but the minimum amount of one session of exercise has to be 10 minutes. If you are a novice, take your time to reach 10 minutes. A single session can be longer if you choose.Moderate-intensity exercise is walking at a pace of 3.5 miles an hour, a brisk walk.

Or if you want to devote less time to exercise, you can if you make it vigorous exercise. Vigorous exercise for 75 minutes a week fulfills the requirement for heart health.If you’re up to it and if you want even greater results, double those times — 300 minutes of moderate exercise a week or 150 minutes of vigorous exercise a week. I want to issue the warning again. Get doctor approval for any of this. Strength-training exercise — weightlifting — also is strongly recommended for all adults regardless of age.The booklet on aerobic exercise explains how to benefit your heart in clear language.
