PRESIDENT REPORT

We are into the first days of spring. There are blossoms everywhere and it is warmer some days.

We have also had enough rain and it is time for some sunshine. I am sure it is coming. The Club has something on all the time. The sports adjuncts have fixtures on all the time. If the sports events are not in our club then the teams are traveling away on visits. I urge members who are not involved with some of the groups in the club, to give them a go and have fun. I am grateful to all the coordinators who work so hard to make their sports so much fun for all who take part.

Get involved and join in. President, Darko Byelich

The representatives’ for the King Country in the Zone Finals in the Mixed Pairs were our own Fay Jones and Darko Byelich. Coordinator Darko Byelich.

TAUMARUNUI DARTS REPORT

2017 has been a great year for darts in terms of involvement with tournaments in and out of the area. It’s great that we have more participants on our club Wednesday nights now because for us it’s not about the darts but more around companionship. Where in a normal competition such as tournaments or memorial trophies it’s about being competitive as well as companionship.

REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS BOWATER

The latest attendance to a tournament was the Bowater Tournament in Tokoroa at the Cosmopolitan Club, where 5 associations come together to socialize and play for the Bowater Trophy. We are a body of people with a committee known as “King Country/Waikato Region 3” under the auspicious of the New Zealand Darts Council (NZDC) We run 5 tournaments a year we always have good numbers so in tern we support each other in area throughout Region 3. The Associations are Taumarunui Darts Association, Tokoroa Darts Association, Rosetown Darts Association, Ohaupo Darts Association and Taupo Darts Association. This tournament was played on the 20th August.

The other Association who are affiliated to us is Hamilton Darts Association. Being the largest populated area does not reflect as the largest Association. As many of the dart players in this particular association are either Chartered Club or Social players.

NATIONALS MOTUEKA

From the King Country/Waikato Region 3 we had in attendance of 28 players entering in all the daily tournaments from husband and wife to mixed pairs to men’s and women pairs to singles. The week would end by playing tournament teams from both the North and South Island. Then NZDC selectors have selected a men’s and women’s team to attend the Japans World Darts Federation tournament played in October. It was an outstanding tournament to be involved with and it is great to see this organisation (NZDC) moving forward in the interest of all dart players.

NEW ZEALAND CHARTERED CLUB 50th JUBILEE UPPER HUTT CLUB

This is probably the high light of the year for us dart players Even though chartered is quite different in terms of double start, The players are the same. We had a team of dart players who attended this tournament participation in this event was a memorial one. Maurice O’Donnell and his wife Mona have been recognised at this momentous Tournament in recognition in their involvement in chartered club fraternity. Their lives were lost in a tragedy in the southern Kawhia harbor October 2016. Maurice was recognised for the work he has done as he was the previous King Country Chartered Club area executive manager. He follows Graeme Cuthbertson the late Robert Herbert also the late Barry O’Shannessy who held this position for many years for this club as much as the ones who followed after him. I am privileged to follow the footsteps of these men as the present Area Executive Manager as I hope to continue the work and support of our people from the clubs of the King Country district. Last but not least during the 50th Jubilee I was privileged to manage the North team against the very strong and determined team from the south. However, we were the victors of the day retaining the prestigious north south trophy which sits high on the shelf of our club. I must also mention that Jannette Jonathan who captained the women’s North Island team and the result was a staggering win as well so well done for the outstanding effort. Many thanks to the players who were chosen for the North teams. Also many thanks to our club and the committee for their support and also a special mention to our darts section for without their support who am I. Happy darts Robert Jonathan

LINE DANCING REPORT

We had a very enjoyable social on 2nd September with lots of out of town visitors joining us for a fun day of dancing, conversation and a shared lunch of delicious food. Theme for the day was “Just Country” Line dancing is one of the most popular extra-curricular activities in the world, using all rhythms of music. Originally, the most popular music used for line dancing was country music, but now there are thousands of dances for Latin, pop, soul and funk etc. Line dancing is healthy for the body and mind, it makes an hour fly by without any stress, and you can learn new steps and make new friends while staying fit. It is easy to follow, fun to do, fun to learn and does not require a partner. Our beginner class is going well – Tuesday mornings, upstairs at 11:00am Cost $3. Come along and give it a try. First session free. If you have done some line dancing in the past, or have never tried at all, we will start you off with some basic easy dances that you will pick up very easily. Afternoon classes are Monday and Thursday at 4pm in the downstairs lounge. Regards Judy

GOLF REPORT

Hey golfers. It has been a bit of a mixed year for golfing so far, with far too many wet days causing small fields, with a bit of luck we may get some decent weather at last to encourage a few more to take part, including myself. I regret we have not had a Cossie champs this year for our annual North Island Clubs tournament this year the tournaments being held at Palmerston North on 10th & 11th November. We do have a team for this Steven Fox, Robert Sharples & Dave Benefield, barring any withdrawals. Last year we finished in the top 20 so hopefully we may do better this year. With club champs coming up next month, we may need to get out and get some more game time in. Practice makes perfect, so they say.

See you on the tee Dave Benefield
