Mise en scene

The story line was two girls walking to a party, so we both wore jeans, high heels which is a code signifying a party/going out. One of the characters was dressed in a black top with a see through lining at the top, this suggests that she wants the attention from the opposite sex, the other character wore a leopard print crop jumper, leopard print is seen as a bold piece of clothing that has meaning attached, such as a slaggy representation. We thought that are clothing was an idyllic representation of two girls on there way to a party; furthermore as our target audience is teenagers we felt that they could relate to clothing we wore. This also creates an enigma as there as usually events that kick of at parties. We used a very long shot to show the girls walking down a path to the party, as it shows the location that the girls are in, also revealing there clothing. We originally filmed during day time, but used a day-night effect as it’s usually in the evening what people go to parties. We decided to film in the day so the visual would be clearer, however when we put the day-night edit on top of the visual it didn’t have the impact that we were hoping for.

In this clip we used a side, very long shot which showed the two characters having a laugh, listening to music. Leading the audience not to expect anything sudden to happen, creating an enigma of what’s going to happen. This creates a light mood as the two girls appear happy and up for a good time which I what people expect from people on there way to a party.

In the titles we edited a sound track over the top, to create an enigma that something is going to happen, also to provide tension/suspense leading up to the next couple of scenes. We thought that this is effective because it leaves the audience of edge, also providing gratifications as the audience should get locked into the film. The sound track gradually gets louder during each title, to build up suspense.

We used a pan here to show one of the characters walking away from each other, the camera follows one of the girls whilst she’s walking down the path, showing that she has walked away from the other girl and she doesn’t see the clown which has attracted the other girl’s attention. The pan also reveals that something has gone on between the girls for them to of walked away from each other this anchors the girls shouting at each other.

This over the shoulder shot shows that something has caught one of the characters attention as she is looking away from the other character and showing very little interest in her. This indicates that something is going to happen.

This shows the clown, which is a conventional aspect of a possessive horror thus reinforcing the genre. The over the shoulder shot shows the girl looking directly at the clown, this indicates that the clown has a purpose/meaning to the girl. This also creates an enigma questioning the clowns and the girl’s relationship. Also creating a tense atmosphere the clown typically foreshadows an upcoming event, which is a conventional aspect of a possessive horror as the main prop/focus usually leads to something bad happening.

This shot shows one of the characters on floor after being strangled with the girl crouching over her. The clown is the background suggesting that the girl who strangled the other character on the floor was possessed, furthermore the action that the girl is crouching over her connotes that she didn’t really want to do it, reinforcing possession.
