Collecting feedback from my target audience

Target audience was very important to me throughout the process of the making of my music video. I decided to look at the features in which I had focused on such as the use of props and the colour scheme. I then made another survey using surveymonkey to collect my results. I specifically asked teenage girls aged between 13 and 16.

I collected feedback through twitter again as I got a very positive response creating a target audience when doing my research for my music video. I created a Twitlonger this was so my target audience could access both links in two places making it easier for them to answer my survey after watching my music video.

From this I received 20 feedback responses.

My survey consisted of 10 questions:

1. Do you think the video was interesting to watch even though there wasn’t a narrative storyline? (Only performance shots were used)

2. Did you find the video boring and repetitive? 3. Were you influenced by the artists clothing and fashion choice?4. Would you recommend this music video to a friend for them to

watch?5. Did you notice the difference in locations which were used within

the music video?6. Do you think any special effects should have been used to

improve the overall music video? If yes, what special effects?7. Did you feel the editing of the music video was in time with the

pace of the song?8. What did you like most about the music video?9. What would you have done differently (This can include the

editing style or the shots when filming)10. Was there anything you disliked about the music video?

I was more than happy with the results of this question. I was actually surprised that only one person said no, this was because whilst I was planning my music video a few people from my target audience and focus group thought that the video wouldn’t be interesting if it didn’t have a narrative storyline.

I felt that there wasn’t a specific answer which I was expecting with this question as I expected it to be repetitive because of the beat and pace of the song. Only 25% thought that the video was boring and repetitive whether it was a little or a lot.

This question was to test my knowledge of my target audience. More than half said they were influenced by the artists clothing and fashion choice, this shows me that I chose the correct kind of costumes to dress my artist in for my music video and ancillary tasks.

I was interested in the answer to this question because from my research music videos often go viral through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. I tested this to see whether or not my music video was on the same lines to real music videos to whether or not it would get views through word of mouth or friend through a friend.

Analysing the results from my survey

I feel like I didn’t use enough locations when filming my music video however I wasn’t sure how much of the audience took notice to where the shots were being filmed. Only 25% of the audience who watched my video didn’t notice the change in scenes.

I used no special effects in my music video as I felt they weren’t needed and that they didn’t follow the conventions of pop music videos. Only 10% of the audience thought that special effects would’ve improved the video however they didn’t know what kind of special effects should have been used.

I got quite a few questions back about this question as they didn’t fully understand it. Over half of the people who answered thought that it remained the same throughout my video.

Q8

I got a variety of answers from this question which is what I was expecting which is why I left this as an open question to the audience. I am pleased that all of the responses I had were positive and that everyone was able to make a comment about something which they liked.

Q9

I agreed with most of the comments from this questions as they are all things which I think could’ve been improved such as using more backgrounds/locations and filming from more and different angles.

Q10

I was curious to see if there was anything that my target audience disliked about my music video however the 10% of people who answered yes didn’t leave a comment as to what they disliked.
