5 Students will work to understand each other’s thought process while they focus on the right answer. Students will not only learn information and the answers to specific questions, they’ll be developing the ability to solve problems as they arise. That’s what we all need to do in real life and what we look for in the people we hire. And in a world where we don’t know what the jobs of tomorrow will be, having employees who are better able to analyze a situation and solve problems will be key to our success. #1 Goals of California’s Common Core Standards New, more rigorous academic standards, called Common Core, have been set out by the state of California. These new Common Core learning standards raise the bar on what students should know and be able to do by the end of each grade level. Our company supports Common Core standards because the goal is to ensure that graduates are better prepared to go on to college or join the workforce – now and in the future. Common Core emphasizes real-world skills like working with a group, applying concepts to new situations and analyzing the quality of information being used in our work. California’s Common Core learning standards are giving rise to a new way of teaching and learning in the classroom. Teachers are focusing on conceptual understanding, digging deeper into subject matter and building on what kids already know to help them discover the next level. TAKING ACTION: REACHING OUT Emphasize the benefits of Common Core. Connect with your community. NEWSLETTER / WEBSITE ITEMS METHOD Timing is key. It is most effective to publish these snippets at regular intervals. Publishing them all at once will overwhelm your audience. Include a link to one of the videos in this Toolkit. VALUE These mini-articles are designed to help you drop information about the Common Core standards into a communication.
