TOD is a worldwide navigation product that provides vector overlays used to support surface and subsurface navigation for US Navy operations and exercises. It provides unique navigation data to sustain underwater superiority, dominance and home field advantage while fighting the away game that enables naval vessels and the submarine community to detect, deter and defeat any threat. TOD is a Vector Product Format (VPF) database that consist of a series of classified bathymetric overlays and US Navy OPAREAs that can be applied on an Electronic Chart Display Information System (ECDIS) to complement the Digital Nautical Chart (DNC). It does not contain certain features such as islands, navigational aids or shorelines that are within DNC. TOD is designated as: TOD0, TOD1, TOD2, TOD3 and TOD4. In order to provide a seamless set of Bathymetric data, the TOD1, TOD2 and TOD3 databases have been combined into a single merged TOD2 database. TOD1 was not withdrawn in areas of overlap between TOD1 and TOD2 datasets, therefore TOD2 takes precedence. If both TOD2 and TOD3 have coverage in a particular location, TOD3 is shown instead of TOD2. Tactical Ocean Data (TOD)

TOD0 TOD0 represents NGA’s Naval Operating Area (OPAREA) Chart, Range Chart and Naval Exercise Area (NAVEX) Chart series, which depict surface, subsurface and airspace operating areas designated for Fleet Operations. TOD0 must be used in conjunction with the DNC to provide feature coverage necessary for surface navigation.

TOD1 TOD1 represents NGA’s Bottom Contour Chart (BC) series. It must be used in conjunction with the DNC to provide feature coverage necessary for subsurface navigation and depicts the ocean floor as well as non-submarine contacts such as wrecks. TOD1 is released as part of the TOD2 product where there is no TOD2 coverage.

TOD2TOD2 represents NGA’s Bathymetric Navigation Planning Chart (BNPC) series and must be used in conjunction with the DNC to provide feature coverage necessary for subsurface navigation.

TOD3TOD3 portrays seafloor configuration in shallow water areas. TOD3 is designed to be used in conjunction with the DNC for complete navigation information. TOD3 also functions as a general-purpose database designed to support Geographic Information System (GIS) applications. TOD3 has no hard-copy equivalent. TOD3 is released as part of the TOD2 product.

TOD4TOD4 portrays detailed bathymetric data for submarine Hull Integrity Test Sites (HITS) in a format suitable for computerized subsurface navigation. The data is designed for use during submarine hull integrity tests conducted as a part of the builder’s trials and after submarine hull maintenance. The data is provided primarily to support deep submergence rescue vessel operations and to enhance coordination between units during escorted test dives. TOD4 is a stand alone product that is intended to be used in conjunction with the DNC to provide feature coverage necessary for surface and subsurface navigation.
