1. Details of registration, the role of the team leader and ambassador are described in the Registration Package and not in the rulebook. Please go over it to avoid any confusion.

2. All competitive events will take place in the first half of Day 1 and Day 2. The rest of the day will comprise of will comprise of talks by Islamic speakers and scholars on issues relevant to the SIST theme.

3.All participants must arrive in time for their competitions as well as strictly observe the time limits dictated by their respective competitions. Failure to do so might result in deduction of points or even disqualification from the competition, whichever the event manager deems appropriate.

4.All team members are required to attend the opening ceremony. In case of absence, points might be deducted from the team in question.

5.Participants must attend the talks. Failure to do so may result in deduction of points. The participants will be conveyed the details in due course after registration to ensure that the points of the attending participants are not deducted.

6.All participants must behave in a proper and civil manner at all times, as befits a Muslim.

7.All participants are requested to observe a modest dress code during SIST.

8.While the SIST organizing committee tries its utmost, it will not be possible to manage gender segregation in all the competitive events. In such events, participants are required to maintain segregation on their own, as much as possible.

9.The rules are divided into general guidelines and competition guidelines under a category. Please go over both the general guidelines as well as the competition guidelines to avoid missing out on any rule that may result in deduction of points on the day of the competition.

10.The judges’ decisions in all cases are binding and indisputable.

11.Participants who compete in two events with overlapping timings must contact their Team Managers and Registration Head– via the Team Leader – and coordinate with them with regards to which half of each event they will be attending. The Team Manager shall then notify the respective Event Managers.

12.Violation of any of the rules may result in deduction of points or disqualification from the competition.

13.If you are unable to understand the rules or are facing difficulty in affording the materials required for a particular competition, you should contact your Team Manager and Registration Head at least 2 weeks before SIST.

14.Failure to meet the deadlines in those competitions that require submission before the day of the event may result in deduction of points or disqualification.

15.Only the registered teams will be eligible for the scavenger hunt.

1.All the judging ballots for this category are given on pages to and participants are encouraged to go over them before they start their artwork so that they are aware of the points that the judges will be looking for.

2.All the artwork should be directly or indirectly related to this year’s theme (refer to the registration package for details on the theme).

3.Depiction of human or animal figures is not allowed in any form except for silhouettes or shadows. Plants, landscape and inanimate objects are allowed.

4.All artwork should be original and ready-made models/art will not be entertained.

5.No artwork should be representing or promoting any particular organization or brand name.

6.All artwork must be clearly labeled on the back with the name of the participant and the names of the institution and team represented by the participant.

7.All participants must to submit an explanation of their artwork (a maximum of 250 words) in every event which should include what is being depicted, the inspiration behind making that particular idea and its relevance to this year’s theme.

8.In case the artwork is in a language other than English, the participants are expected to include the translation in the explanation to be submitted.

9.No more than Rs. 2500 should be used for the total material used in an individual competition.

10.All participants will be interviewed about their artwork by the judges.

11.All artwork can be taken back at the end of the closing ceremony, after the media team has covered its photography. The Event Manager MUST be informed once participants have claimed their artwork.

2.Participants will start their work when told and complete it before the end time of the competition. Timings will be specified in the schedule.

3.Brainstorming, planning (including sketches) and purchasing the necessary material must be done before the start of the event.

4.The SIST organizing committee will not be providing any material and there will be no facility of purchasing any material at the venue. Failure to bring your own material might result in disqualification.

5.Acceptable media include but are not limited to watercolors, oil paints, crayons, mixed media, chalks, pastels, charcoal etc.

6.The judges may arrive during the course of the competition to inspect your work and guide you in the right direction. However, this is subject to the availability and schedule of the judges.

7.The judges will intervi ew each participant for 5 minutes regarding the artwork. The judges reserve the right to increase or decrease the time of the interview in accordance with how much explanation is required.

1.No more than 2 participants per team will be allowed to register for this competition. This competition is NOT a team effort. Each participant must submit a separate piece of work.

2.All artwork must be submitted on paper with no restrictions on the type of paper to be used.

3.The dimensions for the paper should not exceed 22 x 28 inches (i.e. standard chart paper size) or be less than the A4 size. The use of frames is optional and is entirely up to the participant. However, the SIST organizing committee will not be providing it nor will there be any facility for purchasing it at the venue.

4.A maximum of 5 verses of the Quran may be used in one artwork. However, if the verses are very short, the text equivalent to the length of 5 average sized verses may be used.

5.All entries are required to be submitted on Day 1 (January 13th, 2018).

6.The artwork can include pictures or designs to complement the calligraphic work (as long as it does not depict human or animal figures). However, the calligraphy should be the main focus of work.

7.Any artwork that emphasizes pictures or designs over the calligraphy will not be considered eligible.

8.Participants should use known Arabic calligraphic scripts (e.g. Nastaleeq, Thuluth, Naskh, Kufic, Ruqa’h, etc.) for their artwork. The calligraphic script must display uniformity, proportionality and consistency of lettering in accordance with the original text.

1.No more than 2 participants per team will be allowed to register for this competition. This competition is NOT a team effort. Each participant must submit a separate piece of work.

2.The photographs can either be taken specifically for this event or could be photographs taken in the past. However, they should NOT have already been used in a previous competition.

3.The photographs submitted should be a maximum of one photo of dimensions 8 x 10 inches.

4.All entries are required to be submitted on Day 1 (January 13th, 2018).

5.Submission of overly edited photographs may lead to disqualification.

1.The participants have a choice of registering individually or in groups.

2.In case of groups, no more than 4 members per team will be allowed to register.

3.No more than 1 performance will be allowed per team.

4.There will be separate competitions for boys and girls. The girls’ competitions will only be open to girls while the boys’ competitions will be open for all.

5.There is no restriction on the language used. However, in case of a language other than English or Urdu, the participant(s) will be expected to submit a written translation.

6.The participants are not expected to submit a written explanation. However, the judges will interview them after their performances.

7.Extra points will be awarded for original compositions. However, the participants may perform the work of other artists.

8.No more than 5 minutes will be allowed for each performance. Exceeding the time limit will result in deduction of points.

9.No musical instruments will be allowed with the performance. Similarly, beatboxing or other sound effects similar to the sounds of musical instruments will not be allowed either. However, humming and other sound effects NOT similar to the sounds of musical instruments are allowed.

1.Only ONE ENTRY PER TEAM is allowed.

2.Entry can be made either by a single person or in a group of a maximum of 6.

3.The entries submitted should be original and specifically made for this competition. Entries previously awarded or publicly exhibited will not be acceptable.

4.No entry should exceed 7 minutes. Exceeding this time limit will result in deduction of points.

5.Acceptable categories of film include but are not limited to real movie, animation, short commercial and picture movie.

6.No sounds of musical instruments will be allowed in any form. Entries containing sounds of musical instruments will result in disqualification. 7.Intermixing of sexes is not encouraged. However, if the need of showing males and females together arises, effort should be made to do it among mahrams although the interaction should be limited to conversa-tion.

8.Films submitted may be comic or dramatic. Comic films may target those cultural practices, which have no basis in Islam. Targeting practices, which have a basis, may result in deduction of points or disqualification.

9.Promotion of non-Islamic values or cultures will not be tolerated. However, constructive criticism will be allowed.

10.Use of an external mic and/or audio editing software may be used especially for improving the quality of sound.

11.Entries should have subtitles added.

12.Inappropriate content of any sort will be disqualified. Films violating decency of language or modest dress code will not be tolerated.Note: This is not to curtail your creativity; rather it is to ensure a decent and professional environment.

13.No personal attack on any individual or organization should be directly or indirectly made.

14.No particular individual, group or organization should be promoted through the film.

15.The entries MUST be emailed BY January 1st, 2018.

16.The judges may interview groups in order to explain their video if required. This is in addition to the submission of a written explanation of the video (250-500 words), relating it to this year’s theme.

1.No more than 5 members can participate in one team formed from the original registered SIST teams.

2.Each team is instructed to select a team captain, if the number of participants is more than 1.The teamcaptain will select questions from the jeopardy board after consulting with the other team members.

3.The selection of the teams going first will be randomized and the method of randomization will be entirely the choice of the SIST organizing committee.

4.The teams will be required to be present at the designated jeopardy room/hall at least 10 minutes before the start of the competition. Failure to do so may result in deduction of points.

5.The competition will comprise of 2 rounds. Round 1 will be jeopardy style while round 2 will be a rapid-fire session.

6.Teams will qualify on the basis of rounds they win, not by comparing the overall scores of all the teams in separate rounds.

7.The guidelines for round 1 are as follows:

a.There will be five categories to choose from (based on the syllabus given below). Each category will have a column of point values in increasing order of m agnitude. The team captains will select a category and a point value from the jeopardy board, e.g. ‘Prophetic Medicine for 300 please’.

b.The host/moderator will read out the assigned question behind the selected category and point value. Participants will be required to wait before the complete question is read before answering it.

c.A maximum time of 30 seconds will be allowed for each question. Failure to give a correct response or anyresponse within 30 seconds will lead to the question being passed onto the next team.

d.A correct answer will result in the point value being added to the total score of the team. Nothing less than the correct answer will be acceptable and the decision of the answer being correct (in case of confusion) will be entirely the decision of the judge.

e.In case the question is passed onto the next team and that team is able to give a correct response within 30seconds, the point value will be halved and the number added to the score of that team. If the second team fails to answer the question too, the host/moderator will read out the correct answer and proceed with the competition.

f. There will be no negative marking

8.The guidelines for round 2 are as follows:

a.Questions will be asked over a span of 2 minutes to each team separately.

b.Questions asked in this round will require only a simple yes, no or single word answers.

c.The team having the greatest number of correct answers in this round will be declared the winner.

1.No more than 4 members in a group may register in this competition.

3.Only one presentation is to be submitted by the whole group. The presentation may be in any form including but not limited to multimedia presentation, skit, poem or short film.

4.The submission should not already have been presented in public before.

5.No entry should exceed 7 minutes.

6.In case the presentation is in digital form, it should mention the institute and the team name at some point of time.

7.The basic aim of this competition is to bring the youth closer to the path of the Prophet, encouraging them to research the ways given in the Sunnah of the Prophet (saw) in order to deal with the commonly encountered situations by students in their schools or universities. Examples of the type of presentations include but are not limited to:

a.Picking a commonly encountered situation in schools or universities or even society in general and presenting how it may be handled in the light of the Sunnah, giving references from the relevant sources.

b.Picking a profession and presenting how it may be used for the benefit of the Muslims with practical examples as to how it may be done bringing about a much greater benefit than simply earning money.

8.This competition is not to create ‘How/What the Prophet (saw) would have done in a certain situation’ but to highlight what Islam already says about a certain matter and how to implement it.

9.The entries must be emailed two weeks prior to the event. Failure to do so may result in deduction of points.

10.The resources used may include but are not limited to the Quran, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Riyadh us Saliheen, Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abi Dawud and Muwatta Malik. Please visit the following websites for free resources:

1.There will be separate competitions for boys and girls. The girls’ competition will only be open to female audience.

2.Only one performance is allowed per team (1 boy/ 1 girl).

3.No more than 4 minutes will be allowed for each performance. Exceeding the time limit will result in deduction of points.

4.Participants will be judged on both, memorization (Hifz) as well as tajweed.

5.Participants are expected to memorize (hifz) surah 1, 78-114.

6.Judges will prompt students by reading of portion of verse, and participants will be expected to continue recitation until mentioned to stop.

7.Participants are expected to memorize portion of Quran in Arabic and be able to recite from memory fluently.

8.Extra points will be awarded for original recitation styles provided basic tajweed rules are not violated. However, the participants are allowed to copy the styles of another Qari.

9.Participants should refer to judging ballots for tajweed rules.

10.The winner of boys’ hifz and tajweed competition will be requested to recite in the closing ceremony on Day 02 of the event.

4.The debate topics for each participant will be uploaded on the website a week prior to the competition.

5.The competition will consist of two rounds. Round 1 – Line of Argument – and Round 2 – Questions and Answers.

6.In Round 1, each participant gets a total of 3 minutes to present his or her main argument. There shall be no rebuttals and no interaction with the audience. Only the moderator is allowed to ask for clarifications.

7.In Round 2, each participant must answer a minimum of one, and a maximum of two questions. The questions may be asked by the audience, chairperson or the judges. In case of failure to answer the question satisfactorily, the question will then be passed on to the opponent – who may respond accordingly.

1.No more than 2 participants per team will be allowed to register for this competition. This competition is NOT a team effort. Each participant must submit a separate piece of work.

2.An essay may be written either in English or Urdu. English and Urdu essays will be judged separately.

3.The topics will not be announced prior to the day of the competition. Participants will be allowed to draw three topics on the day of the competition. The participant may then choose one topic from among the three.

4.Topics will be on basic Islamic subjects, general knowledge or current events, all directly or indirectly related to this year’s theme.

5.Participants need not have an extensive knowledge of Islam to do well in this competition.

6.No more than one hour and fifteen minutes will be allowed to write an essay on the topic.

7.Essays must be handwritten. Soft copies will NOT be considered for judging.

1.The minimum number of players required to begin a match is 5 – including the goalkeeper; the minimum number of players required to finish a match is 3; there can be a maximum of only 2 substitutions.

2.A match comprises of two 15 minutes halves. The timer will be stopped while the ball is out of play. The time shall only be extended for penalty kicks.

1.Participants will register as teams with minimum 2 and maximum 5 participants.

2.One submission per team is allowed.

3.The competition will consist of a written business venture outline and a power point presentation of 7-8 minutes. The participants are requested to rehearse their presentations from beforehand to ensure that it does not exceed the time allowed. Failure to do so may result in deduction of points.

4.All teams must submit 4 copies of a typed business venture outline on the day of the tournament. It should include visual aid, such as pictures, graphs, charts etc.

5.The outline should consist of a description of your project, marketing analysis, marketing plan and financing plan.6.The presentation on the day of the event must not take more than 7-8 minutes. It should include product samples, pictures or other visual aids (e.g. power point, display board etc).

7.All teams will ensure to the judges that the business idea put forward is interest free and does not go against the Islamic restrictions defined for businesses.

8.The ideas must be original and innovative.

9.The presentations may be followed by a brief question and answer session if the judges deem it appropriate to clarify points that were not highlighted in the presentation.

10.Judging criteria will be based on the judging ballot and the decision made by the judges will be considered as final.

11.No submission should promote any organization or brand name.

1.A limit of two (2) students from each team may register for this competition. Each student competes individually, so collaboration is not permitted.

2.This competition will test students' ability to think critically and apply arithmetic to solve word problems.

3.No knowledge of Trigonometry or Calculus is required. An understanding of only Geometry, Algebra I & II and Statistics & Probability are sufficient for a student.

4.An HB 2 pencil is required.

5.Basic scientific calculators are allowed. Calculators with graphing ability or higher, are NOT allowed.

6.Students will a get a set of problems in different rounds. The student with the highest number of points moves on to the next round.

7.A ballot is not provided for this competition, as scoring will be based solely on test performance.

Layout: The competition will be split up into three portions. The first portion will be the SIST Math Olympics Pretest, the second will be the Ciphering Round I, and the last portion will be the Ciphering Round II. If two or more competitors tie by the end of Ciphering Round II, then the competitors will go into the Ciphering Bonus Round.

The Pretest will consist of 30 different questions ranging from Geometry and Algebra and will be one hour long. The two Ciphering Rounds will both contain 10 questions. The ciphering round questions are not only designed to be difficult but also put the competitor under time pressure by giving him/her only a couple minutes to answer each question.

6.All teams will be given a list of tasks that they must complete on the day of the event.

7.Each task will have a specific time allotted for it.

8.The points earned upon completion of each task will depend on its level of difficulty.

9.Winners will be decided on the basis of the highest points earned and not on the highest number of tasks completed.

10.No extra time shall be given. 11.No running or shouting in the premises. All the participants must follow the code of conduct, failure to do so may result in a deduction of points

12.Other relevant rules regarding the Hunt will be conveyed at the opening ceremony and before the Hunt begins.13.Rules regarding specific tasks will be mentioned along with the task in the list.

14.If any team is confused about the rules during the game, they can seek help from the Scavenger Hunt Manager or their Team’s Manager.
