    WELCOME TO FINLAND Finnish Basketball Association (LOC) is delighted to officially invite you and welcome you to this years’

    Nordic Championships (NC) to be played in Kisakallio, Finland on June 26-30, 2017.

    You are reading 1st Bulletin for the participating countries and teams. Should it not include all the

    information your team needs, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    In short, we are looking forward to organizing a fine tournament in the wonderful surroundings

    provided by Kisakallio, where everything is within walking distance.

    COMPOSITION OF DELEGATIONS Each national team is allowed a maximum of 18 participants: 12 players, 4 staff members, 2 team

    delegation members.

    In addition, each nation is requested to send 4 referees and 1 referee instructor to the tournament.

    Please see separate section “Referees and Instructors” of this Bulletin for further details.

    Please note that there is very limited amount of rooms available in Kisakallio. In case there are needs

    for larger number of extra rooms, please see separate section “In-coming groups” of this Bulletin. In

    case of individual needs, please contact LOC.

    ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES Details concerning arrival and departure are to be sent with the rest of information requested in

    registration process (see later).

    LOC will provide one transportation for each nations’ delegation arriving and departing Helsinki Airport

    or harbors of Helsinki or Turku. Please note that no other transports will be provided by LOC.

    FINANCIAL CONDITIONS The participation fee for each participating team is 200€. The cost per participant is 59€ per night. Same

    price applies for referees and referee instructors.

    Based on information provided by participating countries with registration forms by May 19, LOC will

    send invoices to all participant nations on May 26 at the latest. Invoices will include all participation

    fees, possible extra accommodations, meals and snacks requested by participants.

    Payments are to be made no later than June 7.

    REGISTRATION Number of persons of each delegation, registration of referees and National Instructor are to be made

    no later than May 19 by using enclosed form “Registration”. Details of arrival and departure of each

    delegation are required in the same form.

    COMPETITION Age groups and participants Participating nations are Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

    Age groups of Nordic Championships 2017 are Women and Men U18 (born 1999) and U16 (born 2001).

    Tournament format In each respective age group a round-robin will be played. Final standings will be determined by official

    FIBA rules.

    Tournament rules and Official game ball All games will be played according to standard FIBA rules. Official game balls will be Molten.

    LOC will supply 12 basketballs for all practices and games.

    Game venues Susi Training Center, the official training facility for Finnish

    basketball National Teams, has two courts. They are named

    Susi 1 (main court, pictured) and Susi 2 for scheduling

    purposes.

    The main building of Kisakallio has a sports hall, which is

    Susi 3 in the schedules.

    Referees and National Instructions Nordic Championships 2017 will use a three-referee system for all games. In addition, there will be

    annual FIBA Europe Referee Clinic arranged for participating referees.

    All participating nations are asked to bring 4 referees and 1 National Instructor to the tournament as

    agreed at the Nordic meeting. It’s preferred that one of the referees is a FIBA referee and other are

    considered as future FIBA referee candidates.

    Please note that all referees and instructors should be available for the games for the whole duration

    of the tournament.

    Head of Refereeing of the Finnish Basketball Association, Mrs. Kati Nynäs will be responsible for making

    the game schedule for referees and handing out individual feedback together with the National

    Instructors and a representative from FIBA Europe’s Competition Department.

    Registration of referees and National Instruction are to be done by using enclosed form “Registration”.

    ACCOMMODATION & SERVICES The players of U16 will be accommodated in rooms of four and the players of U18 in rooms of three.

    Coaches will be accommodated in two double rooms and delegation members have one double room

    at their disposal. LOC will do its best to accommodate each national team close to each other.

    Meals Individual participation fee of 59€ includes breakfast, lunch and dinner per day. All meals are served in

    buffet style.

    On the day of arrival, teams are entitled to dinner and on the day of departure teams are entitled to

    breakfast and lunch.

    Teams can request snack and extra lunch/dinner for the day of arrival/departure at their own cost.

    Snack costs 6,50 €/person, extra lunch/dinner costs 10 €/person.

    Teams are requested to pre-order all the extra snacks and meals during registration process (see later).

    In case team decides to order extra meals, drinks or other services during tournament, payment shall

    be made directly to the restaurant of Kisakallio.

    Water and ice supply Quality of tap water in Finland is considered one of the best in the world making it extremely safe to

    drink. Bottled water is not provided by the LOC.

    Ice is available to the teams at main arena, Susi Training Center, and can also be requested from the

    restaurant staff at the main building.

    Laundry Laundry service is provided by Kisakallio to the teams at their own cost. Laundry will be dropped

    off/brought back to reception of main building according to the hours to be determined by LOC.

    Washing one set of uniforms (includes 12 pieces of game shirts, shorts and shooting shirts) will cost

    15€. Payments are made directly to the reception, when picking up laundry. Please note that this price

    is only for game gear.

    If you want to wash other personal items (socks, t-shirts, polo-shirts etc.) the price is 25€/bag. Washing

    bags will be provided by the reception. Payments are made directly to the reception, when picking up

    laundry.

    Towels Besides the towels available in the rooms, LOC will not provide extra towels for the teams.

    Internet Wireless Internet connection is available in public areas and rooms of Kisakallio free of charge.

    Accreditations Individual participation fee of 59€ includes a tournament pass, which entitles free entrance to all

    games.

    Tickets Tickets will be sold to the games on game venues. Daily ticket will cost 5€, which entitles to entrance to

    all games played during particular game day. Tournament pass will cost 20€ and it covers all games of

    the tournament.

    Each national delegation will receive 5 complimentary Tournament passes for their VIP’s (Secretary

    General, President, federation staff). This doesn’t include accommodation!

    Team meetings Four meeting rooms in the main building are available for team meetings. Meeting rooms are equipped

    with projector and screen. To reserve a meeting room, team can reserve 60-minutes at a time from the

    reception of Kisakallio, which controls the schedule of meeting rooms. As a general rule, reservations

    will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Please note that there is special arrangement for pre-game team meetings for teams playing in either

    court (Susi 1 or Susi 2) of the main arena, Susi Training Center, which only has two locker rooms. Due

    to lack of sufficient amount of locker rooms, two extra meeting rooms are provided for teams to hold

    their pre-game team meetings. These extra meeting rooms are located in the Ice Hall, which is on the

    way to, just 15 meters apart from, Susi Training Center.

    Court Susi 3 has four locker rooms, which teams playing there can use for their pre-game meetings.

    OPERATIONS Live stats During the Nordic Championships 2017 all games will be covered by live stats, which are displayed on

    the web site of Finnish Basketball Association at www.basket.fi.

    Rosters In order to prepare printed game program and live stats for the tournament, participating countries are

    asked to send a preliminary roster with maximum 16 players for all national teams no later than

    June 7. Please use the attached form “Team rosters”.

    A final list of 12 players including uniform numbers has to be sent June 21 at the latest.

    Game Videos Games will be recorded by tournament organization. Each team will receive one USB memory to be

    used for the duration of tournament. Teams shall be responsible for bringing the USB to the

    tournament office in main arena before each game. After the game USB’s will be ready to be picked up

    as soon as games are copied. Game videos will in .MP4 file format.

    Videos of other games can be ordered through the tournament office. Price of one extra game is 10€.

    Payments are made directly to tournament office when picking up the video.

    Video streaming There will be live video streaming of the games played at the main court (Susi 1). Games are shown on

    the Youtube channel of Finnish Basketball Association, www.youtube.com/basketfinland.

    LOC is currently working on the possibility to show streams also from courts Susi 2 and Susi 3.

    TECHNICAL MEETING There will be a technical meeting arranged on Monday, June 26 in a meeting room in Kisakallio at 13:00.

    Technical meeting is mandatory for heads of delegations, heads of referees and the local organizers.

    CEREMONIES AND AWARDS Flags of all participating nations will be displayed in the game venues. Pre-game ceremonies are to be

    determined by LOC at later stage.

    Winning team of each age group will receive a trophy and top 3 teams will receive medals. All Star

    teams are also selected and awarded for each age group. All award ceremonies will be held on the final

    day of the tournament. Details will be communicated to the participants by LOC before the final day.

    LOCAL INFORMATION Kisakallio Sports Institute The youth basketball Nordic Championships will be staged in the state of the art venue of Kisakallio

    Sports Institute in Lohja (Kisakalliontie 284, Lohja, +358 19 31511, [email protected]).

    Kisakallio can offer an accommodation in three different standards with a total of 700 beds.

    Kisakallio is the official practice facility of Finnish national basketball team, Susijengi, as well as women’s

    national team and Finnish junior national teams.

    Facility dedicated for basketball, Susi Training Center, features two full-length courts for games (named

    Susi 1, Susi 2), which can be transformed to three full-length practice courts with modern gym attached.

    In addition there’s a Sports Hall with full-length basketball court (Susi 3) in the main building of

    Kisakallio.

    During Nordic Championships the main court of Susi Training Center, Susi 1, will have capacity of 500

    spectators. Courts Susi 2 and Susi 3 have the capacity of 200 spectators.

    Kisakallio has organized a number of different kind of events and tournaments such as The European

    Women Ice Hockey Championship Tournament 2008, The World Wheelchair Curling Championship

    Qualification 2010 and the Fin5 orienteering week 2011.

    Kisakallio Sports Institute is surrounded by 250 hectares of wildwood, Karnaistenkorpi, which is

    nationally and internationally unique.

    Lohja Town of Lohja is around 15-minute-drive away from Kisakallio. Advantageously located in the province

    of Southern Finland, Lohja is a part of Greater Helsinki Metropolitan region.

    Town was established in 1926 and has a population of 48.000.

    Getting there BY BUS

    Majority of international flights to Finland land at Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport which is located

    in Vantaa, 18 kilometres to the north of central Helsinki.

    There are transfer bus connections from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport Terminal 2 to Lohja 4-6

    times a day, but it is advisable to travel from Airport to Helsinki Central Railway Station (25 minutes),

    walk to Kamppi Central Bus Station only two blocks away from Helsinki Central and hop into one of the

    hourly buses towards Lohja (from 11,50€).

    The easiest way to get to Lohja from other major airport cities such as Tampere or Turku is to catch a

    train to Helsinki (2 hours from Tampere or Turku) and hop onto bus in Kamppi Central Bus Station.

    As there is no public transportation from Lohja to Kisakallio, it is advisable to take a taxi (15 minutes).

    BY CAR

    Expressways connect Lohja to Helsinki to the east, Turku to the west and Tampere to the northwest. A

    drive from Helsinki city centre to downtown Lohja takes approximately 50 minutes while Turku is 1

    hour 15 minutes and Tampere 2 hours 10 minutes away.
