Many of us know Cupid as to be the big baby in a diaper who shoots love arrows at people he wants to fall in love. The origin of Cupid is much more than that. Cupid is the god of love,desire,attraction and affection. The story of the love master dates back to ancient Greece and Rome. But today, we know him as the mascot for Valentine’s Day.

VALENTINE’S DAY

Each year on February 14th, most people exchange cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their extra special someone. The day of love and romance we now call Valentine’s Day is named after a Christian martyr and his origin dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia.. Valentine Day’s   February is the month of romance. It’s the month as we know that associate with February holiday, Valentine’s Day. Valentine Day is on February 14th.

It is time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. The event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. On this day lovers and couples would sent chocolates, cards, or flowers to their loved ones. Restaurants would be fill with lovers having dinner or celebrating their relationship. Valentine Day started because of a man name St. Valentine. There were two version of Saint Valentine but it was both agree on that St. Valentine was a bishop who held secret marriage ceremony for soldiers. This was because King Claudius II forbidden marriage for soldiers because he believed that marriage would weaken the soldiers and thus he believed that wouldn’t make them good soldiers. But still soldiers would go to St..Valentine. In the end they would still get caught and St. Valentine got arrested. While St. Valentine was waiting for his sentence it was said that Valentine had saintly power which granted him to heal people. Asterius had a daughter who was blind. Valentine requested to heal Asterius blind daughter. Through working on healing the blind daughter, they began to had a developed bond. They then fell in love with each other. On the day of Valentine execution he asked for a paper and a pen to write a last farewell message to Asterius daughter. This was the story of Valentine Day.

 

February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history. For example we celebrate Rosa Parks because she would not move to the back of the bus were the blacks were suppose to sit, she stayed right there and stood her ground.
