Important Notes

• Read through this manual carefully before you commence installation and startup of theremote diagnostic system. This manual assumes that the user has access to and is familiar with the documentation onthe inverter systems and the modem.

• Bear in mind that you can use the remote diagnostic system to set parameters anddownload software from remote sources. This means you can influence how the inverterbehaves. Make sure that qualified personnel are on hand to observe the behavior of thesystem and actuate the emergency off if required.

• You can use the control software to activate the inverter directly, for example in manualmode. For safety reasons, we recommend avoiding the use of direct activation via theremote diagnostic system.

• Safety notes:Always follow the safety and warning instructions contained in this manual!Safety notes are marked as follows:

Electrical hazard, e.g. during live working.

Mechanical hazard, e.g. when working on hoists.

Important instructions for safe and fault-free operation of the driven machine/system, e.g. pre-setting before startup.

• In this manual, cross references are marked with a þ, e.g.:(→ Sec. X.X) means: Further information can be found in section X.X of this manual.

• A requirement of fault-free operation and fulfillment of any rights to claim under guarantee isthat this information is observed.

• It is essential to follow the modem operating instructions!

• Installation and startup only by trained personnel observing applicable accident prevention regulations and operating instructions!

4 Remote Diagnostic System

1 System Description

1 System Description

1.1 Application fields

The remote diagnostic system enables you to operate SEW inverters without being present at theactual location. Consequently, a specialist at a remote location can assist in startup, analyzemessages or perform diagnosis and process analysis.

• Remote diagnosis during startup

– You can set individual parameters from a remote location or download complete parametersets and application programs (IPOS programs) into the inverter.

– You can view individual process values (e.g. capacity utilization, temperature, speed orcurrent) or record these process values using Scope. In this way, you can ascertain thecontrol response of the drive.

• Remote diagnosis with the system in operation

– You can record and evaluate the most important inverter parameters from a remote location.– You can add new program functions online in a very simple procedure.

– You can pick up infrequent system faults.

– Quick diagnosis is possible in case of a fault by transmitting the inverter process data online. This process allows a reduction in response times.

– It is possible to check the availability of the system and the capacity utilization of the drivesfrom a remote location.

– Data transfers can be accomplished very easily, for example uploading a new IPOS program.

The remote diagnostic system offers the following advantages in these applications:• User-friendly user interface

• Direct access to the user interface of the inverter

• No programming experience required.• It doesn’t take long to get to know the system

3.4.4 Connecting several inverters with UWS11A option

More than one inverter can be connected to the RS-485 port of the UWS11A. When doing this, refer to the appropriate installation instructions in the operating instructions of the inverter and theAddendum to the Operating Instructions “Interface Adapter UWS11A.”

In this case, “point-to-point connection” must not be set in the software. You have to set a differentRS-485 address for each inverter involved. This enables the software to address the invertersusing their RS-485 address:

“Dial”: Dial the inverter modem directly in order to set the parameters of the inverter or tomonitor it.“Call Back”: The inverter modem calls back in order to set the parameters of the inverter or tomonitor it. In contrast to “Dial”, the call is initiated from the machine end and charged to it.“Remote Configuration”: Remote configuration must be performed once at the beginning. Thisdefines the transfer protocol, password and call back number.

5. “Remote Configuration”: Click “Next”, enter the dialup number of the PC modem as the call back number and enter a password. The system prompts you to enter the password when a connection is subsequently established.
